I have the 1/4 full wing cub but have always considered doing another, with clipped wings.

Help My Cub brothers
Just got a 1/3 Scale Clipped wing Cub, Trying to find out who makes it. It has Flat bar Aluminum for the wing supports and a large cover that screws on top after assembly.
The wing support and cover are the same style as My early Hanger 9 1/4 scale. Here is a Picture of it. Thank you for any info. I searched and could not find a 1/3 by Hanger 9

Calvin, Don't know who offered that but it's a good looking J-3. BTY, did you know you don't have a left wing strut?

Calvin, OK, seriously, what is the wingspan and does it appear to be an ARF or a kit build? In the photo it sure looks like the early Hanger 9 1/4 scale with a 100" W.S. and Solartex covering. Are you sure it's 1/3 scale?

52larry52Yes I Noticed the Strut was missing, Had to take it off to fit in the Truck, I believe it is a Arf, appears to be Solartex Covering, and Yes it is a 1/3 Scale as I have the 100" 1/4 scale alsoDid not measure the wing span but it is around 120" has a First Place 69 cc gasser on it.The guy that sold it thought it was a Hanger 9 or World Models, World Models makes one , but uses round wing tubesand there Cowl is Plain no Engine Detail, and searching the internet I could not find any mention of a Hanger 9 1/3 Scale? Also Looking at Photos most 1/3 scales have the doors on them , this has a hatch on the side in the shape of the door but screwed on.

Calvin, the world models cub has a door and window. It is also coved with plastic covering. Looks like a full wing on yours and should come in around 142" t0 144" for 1/3 scale. Full scale is just at 27'.

Calvin, I was just messing with you about the wing strut ( being a smart *****), I knew you had to know it wasn't there. As far as I know Hanger 9 never offered a 1/3 version of that early Solartex covered J-3. Maybe the overseas manufacturer that built them for H-9 also made a scaled up version that was not marketed in the U.S., just a theory with no information to back it up. In any case it looks like you have a nice one there, fly it and enjoy.

Hard to tell who sold a particular ARF unless it one of the bigger importers like Horizon or Great Planes. I have seen a bunch come and go in my LHS over the last 10 years. Some the owner was sorry to see go others he was glad to be rid of them. Mike is real carful on checking them out before he carries them. In most cases he specialm orders the first one or gets a sample and has the pilot report back on the pros and cons of each design. He tries to protect his customers as best as he can.

Question

Quick question here (please pardon my laziness, but I don't feel like scanning through all 135 pages right now...): Is this brotherhood open to all cub style aircraft, or just those modeled after the true Piper Cub?

If it has the word 'CUB' anywhere in it's name or 'use to be' history, it's all good here! Yall come on in and take your shoes off and stay a while! Tea? Crumpets? Welcome to the 'hotel' where everyone can check out but no one can leave!
Have a seat and ask for a number. Tell us a little about yourself. How long you've had this fetish with 'toy' airplanes and what positive affectes it has had on your life. you know, stuff like that.
'It's never too late to have a happy childhood'! Justy love the smell of balsa in the morning, or any other time of the day! That, and burnt castor oil!

Chuck, most any cub will balance on the spar. It is usually set at 1/3rd of the wing cord. Promise!

Hi. I'm new here. Bird referred a few of us after a recent cub build I was following stalled and went into an apparent unrecoverable spin straight in. The pilot apparently had the CG loaded a little too far aft...

Check.

So... while I catch up on 135 pages of threads, study for my membership exam and save up for dues... I have to know, is there a forum nazi in here that will get upset if I talk about anything other than a cub????

I would love to join the cub brotherhood!
I have the infamous hobbyzone super cub which I learned to fly on and recently gutted and upgraded the electronics and motor. I use this plane for testing out telemetry, electronic power set ups and areal video. I love checking out the build threads and participating where ever possible.

Well, being one of the founding members, I don't give a rats azz what is talked about. Bottom line is we are all brothers in many ways and conversations always bounce around. When was the last time anyone was in the circle at the club and everyone talked for hours about one thing, never.

This is how my Carbon Cub is coming along. I should have time to get it completed on my next days off. The drill in the second picture gives some perspective to the size of it. Wingspan is 168" and the main wheels are 8.25".
