Guys I'm back online. Got moved but still unpacking. no fun living out of boxes for a week waiting for a closing date. I'm working to get orders out from my site along with getting my shop unpacked. Some have asked about the super cub. Wing plans are done, fus plans are about 80%

Look for a set of 1/3 scale robart gear? Anyone know someone with a set for sale?

espritmodel.com has the robart third scale cub gear for $175 plus shipping; they're based out of Florida... nothing on ebay 1/3 scale... Amazon has one for $159.19.

If you're looking for used, maybe post in the buy & sell section.

About to Build a 1/4 Piper Cub Its a project that has been in the back of my mind for some time. My situation is which one or what plans are the best to build with. I have a SIG 1/4 clipped wing cub with a OS 120 . So I need to here from people who have used other plans as well as the SIG product. At the moment I am thinking the SIG kit is the way to go but I'm open to all ideas.Maybe a Laser cut Kit.
The project will be different in that it will be powered with the Saito 170 R3.

For the truest of scale there is no comparison to Cubman's plans.

Been playing a bit... my first attempt at making a scale vacuum venturi tube... still trying to get the dimensions correct, and then I need to make the base mount... the the second image is the real unit.

John M,
A "scale" model is never "finished", you just stop detailing it.

Slowly getting there. Work stopped when I got a job, so it is not progressing very much. Still have to put another coat of dope on the wings, fit the rudder, door and ailerons and get them covered and painted, then she is ready for final fitting of gear and her maiden flight.

Ain't that the truth... fortunately with the J3, the scale details are limited, so I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... my last hurdle on the exterior will be the aileron pulleys.

I would like to help Cub Man but my cad skills go only as far as 2-D.

Well I dove in and started shaping the cowl bowl for the PA-11

I tried my best to duplicate the bowl from prints and pictures and I found myself with more questions than answers.
Luckily the owner agreed to pull the bowl from his plane. WOW this made the carving process much easier.
I started with a block of balsa 2"x3"x34". And laminated 11" sections .

I traced the actual cowl bowl and ran it thru a copier then reduced the size of the outline by 33%.
Traced and cut it on the band saw. At this time I am getting more confident I can reproduce all the features.

After shaping with a hand plainer and sanding to a rough shape I laid the face up with masking tape.
Then outlined all the internal features then used a Dremel mounted to a stand and commenced cutting with a high helix 1/8" dia. end mill.

Now for a little finish sanding. Also I intend to mount a backing plate on the bowl 1/16" smaller on the profile to continue the rest of the cowl to the fire wall along with another reduced plate that can be mounted the fire wall.
Once I am satisfied with the overall shape I will lay the assembly up with 3/4 oz. glass. And then and then and then.......

Well I stumbled thru and got what I need. I figured of my plans are accurate to .0000001 then that would be close enough.

Default What are Mates for.

My next project in the shop is a !/4 full size Piper Cub . The story so far is the other day my mate sees a !/4 Piper Cub fibre glass Fuselage for a very small amount on line for Sale. When he went to pick up, it has new wheels along with the SIG wing plans all of which I need. So now the time line and the required work has dropped considerably on this project. The wing work will start Monday will post some photos in a few weeks.

Just a few update shots on the Super Cub. I have the instruments and the panel outline done. As you can see I did not skip any fine details.

Also a screen shot of working on the fus plans. Its getting closer, but has take far longer then i wanted it to.
