I maidened my Hangar 9 1/4 J-3 Cub on the Hangar 9 floats. I had been flying it on tires since last year. Flies like a dream and sounds even sweeter with the OS Gemini 160. I am using the Cool ... fuel with 15% nitro and 17% lub. The engine never sputters but goes on doing its thing. It takes 12ft to get off the runway but much more to get off the water. It is very realistic.
IMHO everyone should try flying off the water, with a Cub would be great but its much easier with an el. Tidewater. Lots of fun.

I have been adding CAP to my SIG 1/5 Cub and repainting the struts. I even have proof! I have also decided to go back and add the engine details on the sides.I have one problem though I'm out of the paint I used on the cowling it was Ultracote bright yellow paint over a white primer. I had primer left but I need to try and match the paint with another brand.

One thing I would like to point out on the SIG 1/5th Cub. The wing attachment to the fuse is weak. My wing was a bit tight at the back, so it put pressure on the rib where it joins the cross bracing above the fuse brace behind the door. First time I landed it, it landed a bit hard and I heard a loud CRACK, and that rib cracked right at that joint. Its only 3ply lite ply, so doesn't take much for it to break. My suggestion is to take a piece of 1/4" ply and fit it between both ribs in front of the webbing and epoxy it in place, also run epoxy around the wing tube joint. My strut was a bit tight which pulled down on the wing and stressed that tube, so between the strut and trailing edge being tight, it overstressed that part. All fixed now, but lesson learned and applied to my Biper.

The one problem I have on landing is not bounce, but it wants to nose over, so I have to give a touch of up while it slows down, but most of the time, if lifts back off the ground! She likes to fly. The Saito is just a hair above quitting when landing too. One field I fly at, not a problem, plenty of room to slow down for a nice 3 point landing, but the other one I have to drop it over the 7' tall corn, and get down on the ground quickly so I have enough room to stop without running into the corn at the other end. That small drop picks up enough speed to not do a nice 3 pointer. I battle with the elevator to get just enough to push the tail down, but not enough for it to leave the ground.
On my maiden flight, it shot skyward after only 10 foot roll, and was a handful to trim to level flight. I had to dial in nearly all my up trim to level off (up as in lever position, was all down elevator), and dial in quite a bit right aileron, so by the time I got it trimmed, I was a wreck for a smooth landing. I buggered the landing, hitting too hard, and that's when I damaged the wing mount. Slamming it down like that, I dont think even the Robarts would have kept it from cracking.
I also lost the dummy engine during that flight.

Good luck with that OKC.... maybe color matched enamel based paint from the hardware store, or color match auto paint... compatibility with the auto paint and ultracote paint will probably be an issue... lusterkote yellow probably won't match exactly... when coverite stopped making their 21 century spray paint (horrible stuff) nothing matched their cub yellow either.

Hi Guys,
My 7 year old grandson flew my 1/3 Cub yesterday. He was afraid to land it on the 1st flight but made a nice landing on the 2nd flight. I didn't have my video camera with me but I did snap a pic of him with the Cub.
We are going flying again in the morning. I hope to shoot some video.
Later!!

Here is a short video of my grandson flying my Cub. If I could just get him to fly at 1/3 throttle .
I am also attaching a video of him flying his 24% Extra 330. He has about 8 flights on it now.
Later!!

7 years old!, that's very impressive... the take off with the extra was about as good as it gets... he's a sharp little kid, and at the rate he's going he could be part of team futaba before he finishes grade school.

I need to tap into some of the knowledge base here on this cub thread. I have been flying RC for over 35 years now and have probably flown 100 different airplanes. I’ve had a couple Carl Goldberg anniversary cubs but never had a sig. A few days ago, I found out that a gentleman not too far away who was an avid builder had passed away and his son was going to sell off some of his planes. One of them was a ¼ scale sig cub, covered in silk and finished in cub yellow. Hanging on the front of it is an OS 160 twin four stroke. Anyway, I got it from him and I’m about as happy as a child at Christmas. The one item missing was wing struts, he couldn’t find them. Is my best option to just order a set from sig or would I be better off to just buy the materials and build a set from scratch? I’m not sure how long the plane had been sitting but I do know the plane has never flown, the fuel tank had never been installed and the fuel lines had never been run through the firewall. I can’t know for sure that the engine was new but it sure looks like it is. Thanks for the help, I’m really looking forward to getting this one in the air.
