first step to recovery, is admittance

here's a few of mine from over the years. Let this stand as evidence - We need another build thread. .40, .60, .90 size or 1/4 sc, we are not picky.

Cub Man, 2 water rudders are better than 1. However, they only work when taxiing upwind. Going downwind they won't work. You need to haul back on the elevator stick to get the nose high and keep it there. This moves the center of balance rearward and increases the amount of side area to the front of it compared to when the plane is flat and level on the water. Then you can turn and maintain heading due to weathercocking.

It would be a good idea to check out either the EAA seaplane flying video from Brown's base in Florida or the book Flying Floats by JJ Frey from EDO to see proper taxi technique. Another good book is Flying A Floatplane by Marin Faure.

How do I know? Full size and RC float flyer as well as former VP of Canadian Seaplane Pilots Association and rep to American association.

Will see if I can locate some pix of my Sig 1/4 clipped wing on floats.

I will admit I'm not the most observant person in the world but from time to time I do notice things. In this case I was over on the SIG website looking for a part number when I made a discovery. The 1/5th Scale Anniversary Cub kit is now $240.95 while the 1/4 scale Cub kit is $245.95! My explanation is the 1/5th Scale Anniversary Cub kit is new stock and the Quarter Scale Cub kit must be old stock. SIG appears to be like everyone else suffering from the high cost of getting Balsa (blame the demand for wind turbines and the amount of balsa those blades have inside). That tells me if any of you are considering buying a Quarter scale kit now is the time to do it because when the current supply of 1/4 scale kits are gone the price on the new run will go up.

I stopped in there year before last for a tour and they had very little 1/4 Cubs on the shelf, maybe six
if I remember correctly. But they had a ton of stuff to make up the kits already cut. They told me if someone
ordered a dozen of them there would be no problem. Everyone should take the Sig factory tour. The place is like a
mesuem.

Been meaning to the last three times out for the Fly In, but never got the chance to. Did you do it during the Fly in or just show up there during the week?

We just went while we were on vacation. Wifey wanted to go to Mackinack Island, so on the way home we stopped at the AMA Headquarters and then Sig Mfg. I liked Sig better.

Good morning everybody!
My name is Mauricio, I´m from Brazil and I´m trying to build my first Piper CUB J3.
I have a nice OS 0.26 4stroke engine laying around and I would like to build up a kit for it.
I´m looking for a 61in wingspan kit.
I do have access to a laser cut machine, so I´ll be able to cut nice kits if I have access to the plan.
Does anyone here knows where I could find the plan or could you guys please kindly share the plans? I could pay for it.

Thanks
Mauricio

I will look for plans and ask in my Club. I doubt an OS 26 will pull a 61 inch into the Air, certainly not off Grass. If you have a hard surface and a long run you may get up. If I come up with plans I'll contact you for mailing Information.

Simitar1, I realy thank you for your help, My e-mail address is [email protected]

well, you are the second person to say that, I´m believing that I will need to build it up on 48".
If you get the files, I can resize it from 60" to 48"

I´ll laser cut it.

Thanks
Mauricio.

Guys I'm at another fork in the road with the 1/3 scale super cub. I have some of the wood in to start the build, still need to order my ply in. I would like to start building before I have my plans for sale. The fork I'm at is power. I want to run a twin in this bird. I'm looking around 70 to 80cc I like the Zenoah 80 but don't know if i can get it all in the cowl. Do not want to cut holes for the plugs. Any photos of a 1/3 super cub with a Zenoah 80 enclosed? I know a 70 will fit. My plans for the super cub is to do candy drops and some towing, it will be total scaled out also. I want plenty of power but don't need to hang it on the prop. Thoughts, ideas and suggestions guys?????

I would suggest a Gemini 120 with CDI conversion. It would stick out the cowl, but with some imagination and tomfoolery you can make it look scale like. I have one I am thinking of using on maybe a 1/4 or 1/3rd scale J3. Right now it lives on a GP Ultimate Bipe.

Simitar1, Thank you very much.
I gos a very detailed plan and paid a friend for converting it to cut plan.
He will end it up probably on next week, after that I´ll buy all the woods and laser cut it.

I´ll take pictures and post here.
But just like any prototype, it will be tested first, before I can say if it is good or not.

I´ve got a 0.26, 0.40, 0.46 4stroke engine to test the frame.
Lets see what is about to come, but I want it to fly with the 0.26

Thanks
Mauricio

Well folks I just finished and delivered the PA-11 Super Cub Special yesterday. And yes the owner asked it to be built as a static unfortunately ;{..The Cub was built from a BUSA PA-18 1/3 kit and modified for the PA-11. The largest mod was the cowl that I made from scratch. The pictures do not show all the detail but I can assure you every screw , fairing, rib, control surface, and so on is within 1/16".

Outstanding, but what a shame to not fly it. Hope the owner flys his full scale. The model looks like "Top Gun" quality, and the full scale looks like "Oshkosh quality"! Pretty planes
