Elevator & Rudder hookup in Great Planes Learjet 40
Hi All,
This is the second Learjet I have built, the first one crashed and burned after a 7 year lifespan :-(. My difficulty is with the control wires in the T-Tail for rudder and elevator operation. The wires are very stiff and do not make the curve out to the control surfaces very easily. This stiffness prevents the control surface to return to neutral with the servos. On my first Learjet, I moved the control wires from inside the vertical stab to outside and used fuel tubing to help lessen the severity of the curvature of the white plastic guide tubes.
Any suggestions on how to get a smooth operation in the wires would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

You could go to a thinner cable like this:

Or even this:

Copy the solution of motorcycles to transfer forces through complicated geometry by using Bowden cables:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowden_cable
The secret is in the solid anchoring of both ends of the outer housing.
If return to neutral is still difficult, use two cables in lieu of one as a non-linear pull-pull system.

go down to your local push bike shop and ask for some cable depending on the size you either want gear cable or the brake cable better than paying 10 times the price that tower charge
