Your fuse/walls are so thick, so you're filling the space between the outside skin and inside with foam and spackling

The construction is the box type..........a box is built and the formers are attached to it and then it is sheeted.....that leaves a space between the box and the sheeting...
With a glass fuselage you don;t have this situation.
The filler is only in the window area so that it doesn't look funny.....open with bulkheads showing.....

I am working on it rather frequently.........been working on the cockpit...waiting for miniture dollhouse carpeting to come in now.
It won't be fancy but I just have to do it up a little....don't want plain wood showing...
In fact, I was working on the seats a few minutes ago.
The temperature here has been between 75 and 85 degrees with light and variable winds from 3 to 10 mph.....
So, I've been doing a lot of flying.....Maidened my Large Little rascal this past week. It is a sweetheart of a flyer...
Been flying almost every day that it doesn't rain.....I have to admit that I have also been doing a lot of yardwork too....trying to get it all done so that I can fly more.
Don't give up on me.....I'll post cockpit pictures when my carpet comes in.....I was going to do the wing tips next but am now thinking of doing the wing fillets....Considering micro baloons and epoxy.....wondering if I should use a fast setup epoxy or go for the 30 minute variety.....what would you use? Probably wood...right?

Sebo, I somewhat fixed my wing tips with micro ballons, using a playing card to match the contour, I think its going to hold up longer than wood, since I don't have wing bags (but will probably have my wife help me make some). I'll send a photo if you like. Can wait to see your next photos.

I would use the 30 minute epoxy. I have found that adding microballoons to epoxy can make it set up faster... I also like to have plenty of time to smooth the mix to minimize the amount of sanding I have to do.

sebo it's coming along real well, your getting past all the hard stuff. Your cockpit should be a fun part the canopy will show it real well so make it nice, ha ha. Spackle, I use it alot where its needed just don't use it for filletts but can be used to smooth them out, you'll get the idea once you see what it will do. Plane is looking good.

Thanks for the info on micro baloons.........ordered some from Tower and 30 minute epoxy too......have you ever tried the shredded fiber glass and epoxy?

I use shredded fiberglass and epoxy all the time to reinforce former to fuselage junctions or other places where I need additional strength. I don't use that mix where I need to paint as it is impossible to sand smooth without using a lot of primer and that just adds weight. In other words, epoxy and shredded fiberglass or something like cabosil on the inside joints; epoxy and microballoons on exterior joints.

I'm still here....still working on cockpit....spent about 10 hours on it during the last 2 weeks....cut and fit and cut and fit again....even with measuring I have to keep doing trial and error. The instrument panel is unique and I have been searching for something that I can print out then cut and paste it to the plane's console. I think I will just fake it and put in instruments that look kinda good to me....
Expecting my 30 minute epoxy and micro baloons to come in tomorrow.
Rain and high winds for the next 5 or 6 days....maybe I'll accomplish something....stay tuned.

You might want to try what the full scale use for filling and fillets, http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...?clickkey=8866, Superfill. Sands easy, smooth fillets before cured with finger wetted with alcohol. Only draw back I've found is the long cure time, over night is more like 24 hours.

I decided to just put some instruments in any old place on the console.....getting bored with all the tedious work.....they really can't be seen.

Having put a few more hours into it today (it's raining) I decided to post a couple of pictures...
the white siding on the inside of the cockpit is dollhouse carpet...I still have to do the other side and the roof.
Instrument panel.....needs to have a little work done on it when installed.
recesses cut into fuselage for window placement...I want them to be flush.

Man what a loss, what's the story behind the navy bird.... looks to be electric motor?

Sure was a loss.........that is the guy who does my maiden flights for me......he had well over 500 flights on that bird....yes, it was electric.....
The stress of all those flights finally caught up with it.....He flew that plane like there was no tomorrow.....the wing actually separated on straight and level flight at about 2/3 throttle....Came to find out that this (ARF) had no wing joiner....just balsa shear webbing on the main spars....It's a wonder that it lasted that long.
It was an exciting demise......
Get the hot dogs and buns out...nice little fire......believe it or not, the fire department is adjacent to the flying field.......No issues.....
Worked on the cockpit again this evening....almost done....took some pictures and will post tomorrow......I'm tired....going to bed...

It's one day past t'morrow but I'll post some pictures now. I consider the cockpit complete unless I think of something else to add before I glue the windshield on.

I'm looking forward to doing more.....nice flying weather starting tomorrow........mid 80's and winds out of the west at 3 to 8 mph.
You know where I'll be. Saturday I received the stuff to make the wing fillets. That's next on the agenda...unless I change my mind again....still haven't done the wing tips.
Nothing fancy there...just plain tips.

I worked on one wing fillet tonight....spent over 3 hours and it is going to take that many (or more) hours to finish this one wing.
I'm using 30 min epoxy and micro baloons. The epoxy really sets up fast with the baloons in it. I'm building it up a layer at a time and sanding the bumps down after each application of the guey mixture. Nothing worth taking pictures of now but will show results after I finish this wing fillet.
I could have probably done a better job with wood but I am comitted now...Learning how to do something new....take care, Sebo

If it is still guey, you can probably add more balloons until the mixture becomes stiffer and on the dry side. Might sand easier also.
