Default Great Planes Extra 300s 40 size, anyone ever build this one??

I just ordered this from tower and was wondering if anyone has any tips on building it. This is my 2nd full build kit. Any suggestions?

You will love this kit! The instructions are very clear, and the plane came out perfect! This was so far my favorite build. Die cutting was clean, parts fit was great, lots of nice "Hot Tips" in side-bars of instructions. Build it as per instructions and you will not have any problems. If I had to do it over, the only thing I MIGHT change would be to use a Sullivan tail wheel assembly and mount some plywood with T-nuts to mount it to. I did not have any problems with the stock tail wheel assembly, but I like the Sullivan type a little better.

Fantastic flying plane, very smooth.

Perhaps could be a bit lighter though. Mine came out at 6lb with a Saito 72.

Look for places to remove unneccesary wood from the fuselage.

I am just finishing up on mine. Haven't mounted the engine yet. The kit will build pretty straight if you follow the instructions.

two things i did to mine: mount the landing gear with 1/4 nylon wing bolts so as not to tear the formers out on a rough landing.

glue some small 45 degree pieces to the bottom of the rudder butt joints as they are weak in that area.

The fit of the wheel pant halves is terrible, and the cowl is just so-so. I wasn't crazy about the die cutting of the fuse parts but it came out fine.\

have fun!

Crash,

Built mine exactly as plans called for. Used a Saito 72. Perfect realistic combo. On about the
10th flight I was taking off and the gear ripped straight back and the wheelpants punctured
both wing panels. The ply used in the lower front fuse bottom is lite ply and should be up-
graded to regular ply. Also, when I repaired the gear area I used triangular stock and gussets
everywhere I could before gluing the new ply bottom on. As built stock there is not much
surface area to support fore and aft forces. Other than that it flies like it's on rails. With the
recommended elevator throws I have no snapping even with full deflection loops. Also lands
pretty slow with no tendency to drop a wing. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I have had this finished for a while now. I put a Super Tigre 61 2 stroke ringed on it and it will almost leap off the ground. It has MORE than enough power. I love the way this handles and flys. I definatly recomend as said on the landing gear. Also dont over do it on the throws, my elevator was set too high and it wouldnt loop. But it does slow down to a crawl when landiing. A finie plane.

I am waiting for the arrival of my GP extra 300s 40 size kit. I understand that the landing gear needs to be reinforced. Has anyone built this with increased rudder and elevator?

Recon that is a nice website you have. I will be looking back at that. Are you happy with the plane and how it flies with the 46?

all the ply was warp in mine.....i had to tape, wieght, and wet
to my glass dinning room table for a couple of days.lol
me o lady just luved that.
yep, i deem the landing gear mount area needed sum extra attention.lol
i drilled holes in the doublers and cockpit area, etc to knock
off sum wieght.
it was easy to build..for me.

i only had a .46 magmun in it..didn't go to the moon or noth'in
but plenty to toss it around if the damn carb wasn't sticking.lol
