New kit for a Saito 56?
While I am hording kits, I am looking ahead.
I prefer a relaxing type plane that's not hot, scale looking would be a plus, tail dragger would be a plus and it's free!
Ok, Ill be serious. I have done the 4*40 and would considering another one, but I have a 4*60 on the board right now. IMO, the 60 is a MUCH better plane. Considered the Midstar and the Tiger II, but both are trikes and I would rather shy away from a lot of mods on this build and would like something a little more scale looking.
I would consider a Cub, but that has been done a lot at my field.
I'm leaning towards the BUSA Pup, but I'm a little worried about my flying skills since I only have about 200 flights under my belt and I think this plane might be a handful with the short tail moment and all. Building it wouldn't be a problem, so I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Have you ever had a J-3 Cub? Try a Hangar 9 Cub 40 with a 12x6 prop. It flies very realistically, which also means that you have to dive to get it to loop...

Gary, you're right... you did ask for a kit. But if you are in the J-3 mode I had heard that the Goldberg Anniversary Cub went together well
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXYXF6&P=ML
And, also the Sig was singled out as having a nice flyer. They also have at least two "Anniversary Cub's" They'be both at the same link.
The Sig RC3 kit is 1/6 Scale at http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...FV5.html?E+Sig 71" WS for about $85
The Sig RC82 kit is 1/5 Scale at http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...FV5.html?E+Sig with a 84" WS and costs about $223 (kinda pricey)
If you do decide to go for a Cub, you'll want it somewhat scale so look for one with barn door ailerons. Some of the kits have strip ailerons and aren't that scale. Oops, I just noticed that the Goldberg may have strip ailerons. Download the construction manual to check this out.
Check out what other people say about these kits as well. I haven't actually built one (though I do build kits) so I can't comment. Just tossing out ideas.
There are also Citabrias, Taylorcraft, and even an Aeronca around if you look.
Sorry about the first miscue. Just tossing out a few ideas. I love my Cub (albeit an ARF) but the flying is what makes the difference.
Just putting in my $.02

Taube 40
http://shop.balsausa.com/product_p/439.htm
These you don't see everyday, and they are great fliers.

The Taube and Cub are both great, the Sig is a very fun build and it's built like a tank, a very strong wing! Ground handling with a Cub can be a thrill until you have taken it off a few times, Cubs do like to ground loop but they land very easy.
Both are a good choice forf your engine too.
Look around and find something you really like.

At your stage with several kits under your belt, the Pup would be a perfect candidate for your requirements. If you can handle a 4*40 then I say go for it. Its a much better flyer (not to mention better looking) than the Taube. However, if monoplane WWI types are your thing then also look at the Top Flite Elder 40. A very nice flying "scale like" plane.

RE: New kit for a Saito 56?
My friend flies a Taube, what a funky looking plane. Looks like a bird diving. It suffers from flutter at high speeds though. Sounds like a flag flapping in a strong wind.
I had built the CG Cub a long time ago and it was a very nice kit, just never got to fly it. If you weren't looking for scale, the Kadet LT40 with a modified wing and landing gear makes for a fun relaxing plane. Since I don't know if that is a 56 2 stroke or 4 stroke you refer to, it may be too much engine. I have a 1" dihedral, tail dragger configuration on mine running an OS .52 4 stroke. It flies great, has good vertical on take off, with the right prop it does some pretty nice tricks. I like to fly it upside down, then push forward to an inside half loop and then pull up into a hammerhead. Leaves a pretty nice smoke trail. Also does some great corkscrews.

Gary, after watching Joe maiden his Pup all I can say is you need one!!!! I don't recall how many Bipes I have built but I can say not one of mine maidened that well. I was always swearing and hitting trim switches on them. Plus I always waited for a calmer day. I like a bit of wind but on a maiden I like to wait until it is a helping breeze. Buy the kit!!!

An Astro Hog would be good, Hog Bipe would be marginal on a .56, or the Great Planes Cub would be great. You coud do it in military or L-4 scheme to be unique.

I built the Taube also....love the way it looks, hate the way it flies.

Stick to the Pup...you'll be happy! Lots more room for your engine and it flies great! Now I fly it on low wind days and have a great time!
ENJOY the build!

RE: New kit for a Saito 56?
It seemed like it flew too much like a flat wing plane...the Taube that is. It flew like a GWS stick. I think I need to add some down thrust.
The Pup flies like the rest of my planes. Predictable and fun. Also, I went electric on the taube which is great for looks, but it makes my flights pretty short.
