Default Sig AeroKote

Has anyone tried Sig Aero Kote iron-on film covering? It looks like Sig is discontinuing the product and selling off their inventory. Anyone know why? Was the product not good, or just not selling?

I have first hand experience with Sig Aerokote as it used to be the covering of the Sig Senior Kadet ARF. It has to be the worst excuse for plastic covering I have ever seen. The transparent red is so thin if you look at it the wrong way it will tear, and doesn't hold to wood well. I think the new owners have figured this out as they have changed the covering on the ARFs to Ultracote.

It's very hard to work with. Does not stick well, and does not do well on compound curves.

Lemme ask a question... I wasn't too hot on Aerokote either, but I wonder - was it supposed to work at a lower temp than, say, Monokote or Ultracote? Could that have been our mistake instead of the manufacturer's?

Just asking a question,

Bob

I tried it years ago and had to strip it all back off before I even flew that plane. I would go with something sturdier like good old Monokote.

I have a 4*120 ARF in red and it is peeling off the nose after 3 flights.  However, the low tack did make it easy to repair the cracked leading edge and recover it. Can't even tell it was damaged.

Just used Ultracote for the first time too. went one really nice, but is a bit more transparent than Monokote.
