Sig 1/5 scale cub. My first real kit build
So, Finally after about 3 years of on and off building, my Sig cub is only days away from maiden (I Think). This is my first kit build that I have started and completed. I think and hope that it will come out nice and fly well. I was very satisfied until I started covering the stab and the fillet on the rudder. What a Pain!! Anyway, I desided to power it with the Saito FG11 gasoline engine. It most probably wont be a rocket but I didnt want to overpower it either.

Hey lars,
That looks like one to be proud of. That fillet area is really hard to cover with monokote, looks like
you got it though. When I recovered my 1/4 J3 I used 21srt century fabric and that area was really nerve racking.
I had to do one side three times before I got it right. I have found Koverall works really nice in that area. Good
luck on the maiden and keep us posted.

Thanx I covered the plane in Oracover. Sadly I could not manage to get the fairing and top of fuselage covered in one piece. Will have to live with a covering joint just in front of the stab

Finished the struts today. I am not happy with them. They came out ok until I followed the maual and reinforced them with fiberglass and cyano glue. Damn. I see some have used Streamlined aluminium for this. Anyone know what dimensions I need. The stock ones will do for now but I think aluminium is the way to go later

I used 1/2" for the fronts, 3/8" for the rears, and 3/16" brass for the jury struts. For attachment points, I used flat aluminum inserts (rounded on the ends), glued in with JB Weld. I tried to fill the struts as much as possible with the epoxy. The jury struts were flattened on the ends, bent into tabs, trimmed and rounded and then I drilled holes in them for mounting.
Yeah, CA and fiberglass aren't a good combo usually. Messy.
