SinceI have to wait for the primer to arrive I decided to focus my attentionon the cowl, specifically some of the airscoops at the top. These scoopswere part of asix sheetvacuumformed ABS. After cutting them free, fitting them was relatively pain free. The pictures that I recieved from John's(skylarkmk1) CD helped me infinding theproper placement. I used a Dremel tool and made these scoops funtional. They wereattatched to the cowlby first scuffing the surrounding area with some sandpaper, then epoxying themin place.

No bondo Robert. These scoops have flanges that are meant to be visible. Hard to tell from the photos thatI have but they're probably rivited into the fuse along the flange line.

Hey VJ, just make your's a very unique model. I say don't paint, just put on a nice shiny clear coat and let the wood show through! You'll be the talk of the..... well.... everywhere man!
Just one other request. Can we keep the posting down a little, I have no time to work on my own build! SHEESH!

VJ,
Zoom in on the scoop(s) in photos 1106 and 1180. They appear to be flush riveted to the cowl.
FWIW - To hide your switches, on N 48587 there is a lugage compartment on the port side behind the rear cockpit. (photo 1136).

Thanks Gary. Looks like we're in for another snow storm tonight, great more shoveling!
John I did notice that luggage compartment, one of those things I wish I knew about as I was building the fuse. Not going to cut into my fuse at this point, I'm satisfied with where I placed the switch. Its out of sight and is easily accessible. Your right about the flush rivits on the scoop John I'll have to add those later.
Checked on the scoops this morning, here's what they look like.

Ithink it's just a shadow effect ace. Ihope everyone had a good Christmas and santa was good to youI did a little post Christmas shopping with my GC from Tower and along with the coupons picked up a TFP-51 arf along with a DLE20 and many extras.By placing my order into 3 seperate orders I was able to maximize all my coupon codes and saved $160 over the total purchase.I know you all aren't big arf guys but the p-51 is on sale for 249.99 until the 31st and if your a club member you get free shipping and with the $50 off coupon you get a real nice plane for $200. I am going to salt it away and maybe strip it and convert to a B model and glass it. Funny thing is I just sold a B model conversion kit that I had sitting around and figured I would never get around to usingOh well. Sorry to hear about the paint issues VJ and Ihave a snow blower if you want to borrow it, I'm a skier big time so I can't feel sorry for ya hey you are in NH ya know. Continue on now.

RE: Sig Ryan STA
Robert I think you are just seeing the bottom of the cowl thru the opening.
VJ,
I would suggest adding a baffle to get all the available air over the cylinder. Can't hurt anyways.
Later!!

Decided to fit the headrest to the fuselage. I wanted to get a perfect fit between the parts so let me show you how I did it. Since the top of the fuse is the contour that I am trying toreplicate then it seems onlyfitting (no pun intended) to use is a sanding block by attatching some 220 grit adhesive backed sandpaper on it. By gently sliding the headrest back and forth a few times I got a perfect fit.
What are your thoughts on whether or notI should wait until after the fuse is painted to mount the headrest or do it now before I shoot the primer?
The snow has just started to fall expecting several more inches...

Good question Robert, I have never dealt with ABS plastic before. I bought this cowl from Fiberglass Specialties.
Nice discounts on those purchases Raptureboy. I had thought about getting the aticulating landing gear but decided against it. The Robarts gear can easily be retrofitted as long as you do it while the sheeting is still off of the wing.
