RE: Sig Ryan STA
Excellent.....very nice. How did you apply the pin stripe......is that painted or striping tape? It looks incredible, that will turn some heads for sure!

Thank you all for the kind words, it nourishes my soul...
Dave, that's pinstriping tape that I put on, I replicated what the full scale plane had.
Tim, sorry to say that is something I forgot to do. Maskinga planetakes quite a bit of time to do right, I used 1/8" vinyl tape for all the edges except for the scallops, where I used 1/16" pin striping tape (yes, pin striping tape) which goes around tighter radius' better. One of the tricks to get a nice crisp clean edge is to make sure that your tape is clean, whatI mean by that is don't lay your tape on its side where it can and will pick-up junk that will stick to the edge of the roll only to show up later. The second thing is more than obvious, use your finger and press the edges down well for good contact andthird, know when to removeyour tape after you spray. The timewill be different for each type of paint that you use, pull it off too soon and the paint will continue to flow and you will make a mess, too late and you will also not get the edge that your looking for. The best that I can describe is- you know when you get a hot pizza and the cheese is real stringy when you grab a slice? Well this epoxy paint goes through a time where the paintgets kind of stringy or plastic and then it starts to harden, it's the time after it gets plastic and starts to firm up that you want to pull off the tape. I was very happy with how clean the edges were after removing the tape... If it helps Tim, you are more than welcome to come with me when I spray my wing at the shop I can show you instead.
David to answer your question, a plane ticket!

1/16" pin striping tape, I can't imagine getting my fingers to work with something that thin. I used 1/4" for the gold pin stripe on my Model 44 and that was tricky to work with, not to mention it didn't like the curves I was trying to make it around.
As to watching you paint the wing, that is an offer I will take you up on if I can.

You should try 1/64 chart tape for panel lines again VJ just awesome work. I wish I was even half the craftsman you are.

Thanks maekju.
I've been getting the fuse assembled and did run into a few snags that set me back a bit. One was were I had placed the screws that hold down my tank tray. With everything in place it was just too tight for that to work so I had to rethink how I wanted to attatch the tray. What I have now works much better. Second snafu was my throttle linkage, I'm still sorting that one out. Nothing major just time consuming. This 1/5 scale model is pretty short on space in the fuse and it has been a real challenge to get everything to work the way I envisioned it. Didn't take any photos tonight, but when I get the linkage and the rest of the electonics finished I will be sure to post a few photos.
Possibility of more snowheading this way so with a little luck I won't have to go to work tomorrow and I'll be able to work on my Ryan...

Now that's the attitude! Nothing better than a free-day to retire to the man-cave and get some REAL work done! May the force be with you!

Well we missed it here completely. All the plows were out sitting on the ramps and thwy sprayed salt everywhere and nothing. It will be in the 50"s and sunny this weekend so I think I will try and go flying, after going to the big swap meet. Quick ? does anybody see my PM button and the gallery button on the bottom of my posts? I don't see them any more and was wondering if others still can. Thanks.

RE: Sig Ryan STA
First things first, really impressive finishing work. Nice to see what it looks like when they come out the way they are supposed to. Second, weathers been a bit windy and cool but 50/60's with wind down the runway through the weekend.

Thanks for checking, I guess I never noticed it before but I don't see the PM or email tabs at the bottom of my posts only on others. This site has been really acting up lately, slow page loading and unable to load pictures many times, and in some threads the pictures are all gone now. I surehope this thread doesn't have that happen Can't wait for those wing pictures now

raptureboy,
The email and PM tabs are absent on your posts post because they are not needed. You will not be emailing or PMing your self so they are not provided. It has been this way for years. You will have the gallery, search and mymodels tabs.

Thought I wouldupdate you onthe progress of my Ryan. As I said before this is a beautiful model to build but it is not blessed with a lot of room in the fuse for all the electonics thatis typically found in today's planes...things like ignition modules, IBEC's, choke servos, you get the idea. It has been a real challenge to make it all fit and have it accessible should these items need service in the future.
I am using a single 2700 mAh JR Ni-MH battery that will power all of the planes electrical needs. I am alsousing an IBEC from Tech-Aero Designs which eliminates the need for a separate ignition battery and mechanical on/off switch, the LED power on/off indicator can be seen mounted next to the charge jack in the cockpit area. The IBEC is also hidden under the charge jack compartment and those with keen eyes will find the secondary receiver just above the charge jack as well.
Being curious about its current weight I decided to weigh my Ryan in its current state as seen in the photos, I'm at 6.4 pounds! I will need to cut off the ends of the pick-up sensor off and the engine's ignition module and lengthen this wire as it is too short.
