RE: Sig Ryan STA
I have a DLE 20 that I have slated for a GP Super Skybolt, its my first one, but its really a nice little engine. I think it may be my next build after the Miss LA. I have 3 planes that are killing me, the Miss LA, the Mr. Mulligan, the Ryan, and the Spacewalker. Ohhhhhhh that's 4 isn't it...........&^%!!!!...........decisions, decisions!!!!!

Looks real nice, Vincent ! Your work is impeccable.
Dave; I'll be glad to help out with your dilema. I'd be glad to stop by, and pic up the Brown Racer and the Mulligan. That would free up your time to build the Sig kits. LOL
I'll be in your area, this weekend. LOL

Got to work this morning early so I could post these photos. All the flying wires have been completed and adjusted. Adding rivet detail to the pants. I still have yet to fit the spats on. If you remember in many posts back that I had decided on a name for my plane, well here it is. Tell me what you think...
Show-n-Tell is this Wednesday, hope "Private Ryan" is received well...

Hey Vincent, I know you used the pinking tape from Pink-it, do they carry the stitching that you used too, or was that from someone else? I searched the thread and the pink-it website but couldn't find it.
Thanks,
Dave
P.S. Nice Legs......

Sorry all you buyers missed out, those were some good buys, but always good to know your limitations and not get in over your head. A belated happy Easter to all andI hope you took some time out to spend with family and reflect on the wonder of the season. I think I love Easter more than Christmas because it represents thecompletion of God's planand the begining of new life. Nice legs there Vinniethanks for sharing this project with us again. I feel like I've made a dozen new friends without having ever met any of you because of it.

I'm bringing a lawn chair to the show and tell meeting so I can just sit in front the Ryan and soak it in.
Great name, too! Perfect play on words and looks good to boot.

Hi Vincent
Your Ryan looks absolutly fantastic. Thanks for your thread, because you gave me the motivation to catch up work on my Ryan. It was colleting dust for 10 years. Now I have done some details and painted the wing. I will do the military design, yellow -silver. I have to wait for better weather to go outside and spray the fuse and other parts.
Regards Aldo

RE: Sig Ryan STA
I'm using 2-56 push rods as well for the lower flying wires but I'm leaving the center set free to move with the gear. I'm concerned that there will be a lot of flexing of the landing gear wire even with the rear brace and that the flying wire mounts might bend or break if all the points were rigid. It will be interesteing to see how they survive repaeted landing loads. The outer wires are mounted at both ends but have enough slack to take some forward and back movement of the gear. I'm concerned about the gear design on this kit and I'm surprised others haven't had issues.

Jaybird, I had the same concerns about the landing gear which is why I spent so much time and effort to beef up that area during the build. If you remember I added additional wire support behind each landing gear wire to help minimize movement from front to rear. The 2-56 rods adds a lot more strength to the area as well.Raptureboy, one of the benefits of sharing on these threads in not only the knowledge one gains but the friendships that are born from them...

Very nice job on that wing Aldo. Have you guys seen this annoucment. This just in from theApril edition of Aero-News.Net (www.aero-news.net):
Calls The Models 'Expensive Toys For Rich Boys'
Saying that everyone who makes use of the NAS should be paying their "fair share" for its administration, President Obama today has proposed a $10-per-flight user fee for people operating remote-controlled aircraft. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that the President feels that anyone who can afford to buy an RC airplane and fly it can afford to help keep the NAS safe while flying.
They're expensive toys often operated by the top 1% of wage earners," Carney said. "We think they should be asked to pay a modest fee for their use of the National Air Space like we've proposed for most other flights."
Carney said that he understands that most RC flight are performed in uncontrolled airspace, but that safety should not take a back seat to the wishes of a small group of hobbyists. Asked how the fee would be tracked and collected, Carney said "it will be done on the honor system. We think these law-abiding citizens will realize that it is their patriotic duty to pay for the privilege of keeping America's airways safe and open."
Carney said that most RC airfields are fairly well known, and that an additional 10,000 IRS agents will be hired to randomly check those fields for un-paid activity. "They'll never know when they're going to be raided, and the fines will be much higher than the fees," he said. "Yes, it may seem to be a bit extreme, but doggone it, we need the money. And when you need revenue ... you gotta call out the revenuers."
"Patriotic duty my left foot," said an RC pilot who requested anonymity, The pilot, who was flying his electric Styrofoam P-51 from an undisclosed location, said that the proposal was ridiculous. "Ten buck a flight?" he asked. "I mean, sometimes I'll re-charge and fly this thing 15 or 20 times in a morning. I only paid $100 for the airplane. Is he serious?"

Kind of, but when I saw "....an additional 10,000 IRS agents will be hired to randomly check those fields for un-paid activity". That was just silly. No way it would be worth it to do such a thing. Not that that has stopped our government from spending our money on other stupid things.............

Ah, yes, I remeber now. Mine is already built with thin aluminum brackets and no mounts on the center section so I've have to retrofit what I can. We'll have to give reports our our results and compare!
