Boy, RCU has been quiet, especially this Tiger thread.

Had the Tiger up today and was practicing outside loops and waterfalls. Had some strange "mixture hunting" at full throttle so I unscrewed the needle to super rich and cleared whatever dirt was there and things were back to normal. Anyone else building or flying?

Also... Has anyone thought about building up a Tiger 2 wing with balsa spars and shear webs all the way out rather than using the heavy hardwood spars supplied? A lot of the vintage pattern planes in 60 size used balsa spars with no problems. It would surely reduce the weight of the plane a lot.

Boy, as small, light, and cheap as these voltmeters are getting, I am going to put one in the panel of the Tiger to keep an eye on the receiver battery.

Finally took the canopy off the Tiger and put the Midland video camera on that flat cockpit deck. Here's a video showing how that worked out and how the OS 35AX powers a Tiger II.

IMO good battery management is better then any on-board meter. besides, you wont be able to see it when its in the air!

I have flown a few Tigers over the years. Not my own, but for other pilots that requested that I fly them. I've flown the little one and the giant one. They are very nice airplanes. I was surprised how well they flew. Could I be an associate member ? Haha, just kidding.

Default Tiger 2 (40 sized) w/ Retracts

Greetings Tiger Team,

I would like to build my Tiger 2 as a tail dragger with retracts. I am sure someone has already done this. Any good pointers before I start? I am building the Tiger from a kit.

Thanks,

JW

JW.... Haven't built one with retracts but things to do would be to install the gear about 1/2 to 3/4 inch more toward the rear than shown on the plan as it is too close to the CG on the plan. When I built mine with an OS 35 AX the CG ended up right on but it would sit on its tail with no fuel in the tank. (The CG ends up being behind the point where the wheels hit the ground so it stay in that tail down position.) On my fixed gear version, I bent the gear legs back to solve that issue.

Also, many builders (me included) have experienced aileron flutter with the original single servo and provided torque arms. One servo in the wing for each aileron (two servos) is the way to go to fix that problem.

Keep us posted on your build!

Jerod, I've send JKR_1100 a PM to see if he wants to hand off the roster to someone else to manage. He doesn't appear to have been active since November. Check back in a few days.

Haven't been able to contact jkr_1100 and haven't seen him active for two months. Looking back, it appears that turz got his member number of 60 in post number 689 so we can proceed from there. I will build a table of all the member numbers as I have time to go back through every post.

Here are your GoldbergTiger Club Member Numbers for those requesting them after number 60. If you don't have a member number yet or if I missed your post, please request on this thread.

Club Member Number

RCU User Name

jkr_1100 can take over again if he returns but I am willing to keep it going as this has been a nice thread with great contributors.

psmith36, you are #66.

I've reconstructed the whole roster and will post that in a few minutes. I found a duplication of member numbers for rye and red raider and reassigned red raider to member #32. That slot had been assigned to another member twice so it was available.

jkr_1100 started a wonderful thread here and I hope things are okay with him and that life just got too busy. Hopefully we will see him back soon. In the mean time, I'll try to maintain the list as best as I can. Roster to follow.

Whatever hit it sure took care of that wing! Wow! Sounds like you have some chilly weather there better for building than flying.

rye when you smash them up you do a good job and don't leave much to fix. the one pict. looks like a mid air crash brought them down. You gotta stop doing that, ha ha.

Ran across this photo of my Tiger 2 when I was building it just before I got married in 2010. Guess I better think about an anniversary gift so my wife will pick up some more fuel for me next week!

this is the response I sent to Thailazer in a pm. Wanted to share it with everyone without retyping the whole thing. If you'll look back towards the beginning if this thread, you'll see where my brother and I scaled up the 60 size and put 30cc gas engines on them.

Wow, getting rid of two pounds is pretty good! What size Tiger did you build for the 30cc? I have a 44cc Tartan Twin that is quite heavy so that might be exactly what I need. Was it the 60 size Tiger or did you scale it up?

We used 60 size plans and scaled them up 28%. We haven't worked on them in about 3 months, so I need to refresh my memory a little on the exact dimensions. I think the WS is 91. I fly mine with a Syssa 30cc, and my Bro has a DLE35RA on his.

The first flights with my plane, the true prototype, were good. But the weight was a real issue. I had a 29 ounce weight attached to the firewall to get it to balance at the very back of the CG range. Between that and the engine, it was a lot for the nose wheel. I wound up hitting a landing light when I couldn't get the plane to slow down on landing. Caused extensive damage, and convinced me that we had to redesign the tail to get the weight issue resolved.

i did, and it did. Reassembled it last night and it balances right at 5 3/4 with only .75 ounces at the nose. PERFECT!!!
