I just got a nice surprise an old friend and RC mentor brought by some old plans he thought I would like 3 sets of the Goldberg Sky Tiger for a .40 size engine!

I have been trying to think of a good color scheme. I thought about replicating my original which was the box art 4 place brown/gold scheme, but honestly at the time, that thing was hard to see, and I ended up re covering it anyway.
I may copy a scale color scheme from a German warbird. Then I can justify using flat latex, which is what I mostly finish my planes with now anyway. I will cover it with Dacron from aircraft Spruce. Very inexpensive full scale fabric.

Hi FlyerinOKC, would you like to sell one set of the plans, or a copy of one? I have the Eaglet that I am going to save for my grandkids, but I would like a 40 size Skytiger for my Saito 56. Thank you for your consideration. I might even enlarge the plans to a 60 or 90 size.

Just a thought I found the eaglet fly's better if the stabs edges are not rounded just left square I had four, the square stabs flew best..........I'm not sure why!

I have heard that before with other planes also. Have not heard why; must be airflow (duh). Thanks for the hint.

Also, I would like to join the Club, expecting to build and fly a Tiger soon.

If you and donnyman will try to get your hands on Dave Scott's "Airplane & Radio Setup" book you guys will find a great section that will explain what causes this action and things you can do to vastly improve the flight controls on any airplane. The book is full of other great information. I highly recommend the book to anyone entering or in the hobby.

Build the newer Tiger 60 and if you want to use retracts then duplicate the additional parts in the deluxe kit. Then use the additional instructions in the deluxe kit. Then if you decide later on to sell the Tiger 60 Deluxe kit you will get greater return on your investment. That just my two cents worth.

Guys, yep, I've been thinking along those lines myself. It looks like the plans are the same from each kit, with the deluxe kit having an addendum to the instruction manual showing the retract installation. Building the newer kit makes more sense. I do want to add retracts for the coolness factor, I think I'll look into a set of electrics. Saving the discontinued kit will pay off in the long run... Thanks for the input.

The deluxe kit also has additional parts (wood) that you will need to make template of for use in the other kit and they are always nice to have on hand.

Okay, that's it! Next Tiger I build will have retracts. The electric retracts have really come down in price and you don't have to hassle with air plumbing and tanks. Here is just one of the many available on ebay.....

Be careful with inexpensive retracts. It is one area where you wanna make sure they perform reliably. Electrics can still be somewhat sketchy.

I hear yah! As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had a set of Kraft electric retracts on an old war bird. Sketchy is a good word to describe them, but anything today has to be better.

I cannot speak to any specific brand but the problems I have seen with most retracts is maintenance. properly set up and of he correct size..not only for the plane but your style of landings, will serve you well. Sometimes it is better to use a larger size than recommended due to rough field conditions.

Retracts require more mainteneance than standard gear, alignment is important but changes with a crunch landing. I've seen weak gear on birds that lasted for years but were carefully maintained and not crunched on landing. Proper landing technique will play a big part in how long or how well the gear will function. DO NOT rush the instsallation...you get what you give. ...........Mostly

After my experiences with electric gear, I am still sold on pneumatics. The pair of robarts I have in my Sun fli and FW 190 have been flawless. Very reliable, just pump in some air and go. These would be perfect for the Sky Tiger.
