I would figure out what engine you will be using then figure out what prop that engine will want. Then you can size the gear about right with the wheels in mind.

FYI our grass field likes 2.5 inch and larger wheels. Paved fields can use smaller wheels.

I like that. I've been researching low wings as my next build. The Tiger is one of them.

I put a Mooney style tail on my Tiger so it would fit in the trunk of the Toyota and it knife-edged considerably better after that. It had a bit more area and maybe the shorter moment helped. Here is what it looked like....

I like the looks of a Tiger with a Mooney tail I may have to alter mine. did you do just the rudder and vertical stab or was the elevator altered as well?

I really like the Du-bro Super Strength Landing gear mounted to the fuse just in front of the wing . The gear works fine for both 40 and 60 size .One nice thing when it's mounted to the fuse is when the wing is off the plane is easy to transport with out needing a cradle to keep from scratching the bottom up. The aluminum gear will bend but this Du-bro gear wont bend although it has lots of give..Its not really springy but it absorbs the shock of rough landings . I have never had one fail . I think Leroy put one on his Tiger .

I built a whole new set of tail feathers, but I did leave the elevator at the original dimensions with maybe a bit of a change at the elevator cut out.

Thanks! Your tail jogged my memory of a trip we made a couple of years ago to visit my son stationed at FT. Carson CO. He took me around to the local aviation museums while I was there. We went to one at the Pueblo CO. Airport and we stayed until it closed. One of the volunteers we got to know offered to show us his ride home. It was a Mooney! It wasn't museum condition but it was in great shape. He flew it back and forth on the days he volunteered because he lived in a neighboring town and it gave him an opportunity to fly. I got to say I was envious of his commute!

Was out flying my tiger 2 yesterday and was pretty fun, was very hot outside and the engine kinda got sluggish. But then it cooled down and was pretty cool.

Your engine may have overheated, causing the piston to swell too much. a lower nitro fuel may serve you better, most engines do not need more than 5% nitro in the fuel. when I can find it I use FAI fuel 0% nitro. really can't tell much difference and the engine runs cooler and doesn't sag.

Sorry to hear your season is ending there Lonestoner! This Tiger thread has been rather quiet so I guess everyone has been flying. We got the ranch and airstrip sold in Thailand and I am back in the USA. Once I settle down somewhere, there will be a new Tiger on the bench!

I remember a picture you posted of that Thailand flying site. It was am impressive view. I am sure you will miss it. Good luck on settling down. Moves are terrible and international moves have to be horrible. I have done my last move. Nice farm and now a private RC airstrip.

Thank You for that ETpilot. I am hoping to find a small farm and try to get another field here like you have as I do indeed miss flying any time I got the urge.

Yeah,I am going on a 3 week vacation on sun and when I get back it will be cold.
Being able to fly at the ama in muncie has been a real treat and has let me develop my flying.
Oh and by the way mount bohemia in the u p Michigan has great winter skiing.

I would like to join the Club, i am flying a Tiger II with and OS 46AX on it, flown a Jr tiger many years ago, and just added to the fleet a 60 kit, and found an untouched 60 ARF kit 2 weeks ago!
Also found the second Jr tiger kit form many years ago hidding in a closet.
Time for me to get building.

The 120 will add a lot more weight to the nose

Hello everybody,

It´s been a while since I was here. Progress on my Tiger has been dead slow, with a 3 year old earthquake and a newborn baby at home, plus work issues, I just can't seem to find enough time to work on this kit to make substantial progress on it. Anyway, I'm really happy today 'cause UPS delivered this afternoon my long awaited O.S. GGT-15. I don't know if it was a good pick for the kit but I think it will not disappoint me. Basically I chose it because bikerbc recommended me the O.S. 75 AX but, I'm trying to make the transition to gas engines (and save a few bucks on fuel) so I thought... this one has the same amount of h.p. that the 75 AX and no substantial increase in weight, so it should work... I guess, I'm a newbie on this theme.

I'm using only aliphatic glue and epoxy for this build. Aliphatic glue is new for me since I've always used Cyanoacrylate, I'm improving my technique as i go. A lot of posts right here and many Tiger Build Threads at this forum have been an excellent help. I also have to mention that Mr. Paul K. Johnson's webpage has been a really good guide for this, I've already used many techniques he describes although, I'm not even close to do it as he says. I decided I'll reduce the dihedral angle on the wings to half of it, as HFrank recommended me, and as many others have commented here, also I´m thinking of doing the double dowel on the wings instead of just one. Other thing I´m sure I´ll do is do this Tiger a Taildragger, I just love the way it looks with a conventional landing gear and a good set of wheel pants. If anyone has any recommendation on any of this issues I'll appreciate your tips.

Well I'm sharing a few shots of my slow slow progress.

A few Pics of our field, and my two little babies.

Thanks again,

Gerd.

Gerd... Recovering after that earthquake must have been tough. Glad you got through it. The build looks good and looking forward to future reports about that engine.

Sorry if I misguided by using the word earthquake, by that I meant my first son, I also call him tornado, tsunami or tasmanian devil... I guess you'll know why... ;o)
