I acquired an almost complete Tiger Twin. I am putting 2 Magnum 52 4 strokes in the plane. Has anyone know, made or flow such a bird.

No but I bet it flys like a tiger on steroids, you will have to post your first flight with it!

Hey! thanks for the comments. The cowling is custom made, I took many ideas from a few tiger build threads.

still haven`t tried the engine yet

Well... Last Saturday I went to the field, started to work on the engine running-in, The ggt-15 gave us a bit of a hard time, we had to close the mixture control valve a few degrees, although the manual states to keep it as it is until the running in is complete, but it just kept choking, fuel was pouring from the carb all the time, I don't know if it was because the engine is mounted inverted, but it worked. I think we left the mixture control valve rich enough so it won't have any problems during and after the running in. The needle valve seems to be too sensitive 1 click less and it's too rich, 1 click more and it is too lean you got to find the exact position. Anyway after a half an hour we finally managed to tune it.

After 2 tanks I started to receive some pressure from the other guys to give it a try and fly it, so I gave in and I finally flew my Tiger.

It flew better than I expected. As soon as it took off It showed a tendency to roll left, I guess the ggt-15 is too big for the plane I'm guessing this was due to torque, after several clicks on the rudder and aileron trim, roll tendency was neutralized but after half a pattern I just couldn't make it fly straight and level, it had also a tendency to pitch down, a few clicks to the elevator trim and the problem was solved...

I received a lot of help from a friend to trim it, I was too nervous and worried trying to keep control of the plane, but once it was trimmed I calmed down and started enyoing the thing...

This was my first try with a tail dragger and sports plane, I was expecting a wilder plane but it turns out the tiger is smooth and easy to fly, had to try three times for landing cause no matter how soon I throttled to idle it kept coming too fast every time.

Second flight went smooth, I started doing more manouvers and really enyoied it. But I ripped the landing gear off during landing I kept flying more than I should have, so in my second attempt to land while I was going around the engine quitted and had to make an off field landing.

Dammage was minor, the landing gear came off with its respective chunk of plywood... A few hours of work and it will be ready to fly again... I'm happy...

Here's a video of its first flight...

Congrats on the flight! That is a lot of power for sure, but looks like you will get the handle on it soon. Nice video and looks like a great place to fly.

Well done! Sorry to hear about the dead stick landing...

I have made some progress on my build over the last couple of years... I am installing retracts, so far so good!

Hello!

I was looking at your video and it appears the fuel tank is to high in relation to the carburetor, and maybe the reason the fuel gravity feeds to the engine. May I suggest you try the engine upright to minimize this problem.

Happy flying..........donnyman

With the only damage being a torn out gear I would say it was a great flight! The Tiger is a great design and will bring you a lot of fun flying!

I bit on the Phoenix Models Tiger 3 and thought I would post some photos of this little copy cat! Quite well built overall, but the covering is hard to shrink and the hot glue used in some areas is poor. (The aileron servo mounts snapped off with light finger pressure. ) At a 109 bucks, it is cheap and fast way to get up in the air, but a well built Goldberg Tiger is still going to be a better airplane.

The dimensions of the Tiger 3 are almost identical to the Tiger 2 with the only real difference being the engine firewall is a bit further forward. Other than that, the planforms and dimensions are near identical.

David Patrick really knew his stuff, the Tiger was a marvellously flying sports model, had one decades ago. Many pattern pilots inc myself made some simple mods to the Tiger and used them for practice.
We extended the rear fuselage and positioned the stab/fin 3 inches further back. Made a new rudder 2x as wide. Dropped the engine thrust line 1 inch and shortened the wings by leaving out the last rib bay.
Make as a tail dragger, keep everything as light as possible. A wonderful Dave Patrick hybrid.

I love the Tiger 60 I built sometime back. Just about everything on it was modified and it has a DLE 20 in it and I added flaps for aerobatics. It's a blast to fly and it will do anything you can give it and hover also. Wings are sheet'ed to support the covering job. Cowl is custom made fiberglass. Wings are mounted on an aluminum tube.
