Default Tiger 2 with Retracts?

I am interested in installing retracts in a Tiger 2 kit. Has anyone been successful in placing tricycle retracts on a Tiger 2 (40 sized)?

My son and I built the 60 size delux version, the weigh of the gear made it a dog compaired to the stock fixed gear.

You might be able to get by with some of the newer lighter electric retracts and not lose too much perfomance

Hello MajorTomski.

If we consider that most think of "performance" as speed and fast vertical climbs it become just a matter of lots of power/prop combination and any extra weight of retracts becomes irrelevant.

Edited to change "I" to "If"

My Tiger with retracts is a great flying plane. It has an OS 65 LA on it and it just scoots right along. I love the plane and the way it looks in the air. Good Luck, Dave

Dave,

Thanks. What type of retracts did you use?

I used the Robats that came in the deluxe version of the kit. They just dropped right in and they have worked flawlessly. Good Luck, Dave

James I think I may have mis-directed your thread

GUYS hes' asking about the .40 sized Tiger II NOT the original 60 plane which later came with retracts.

Oh, I completly missed that. I have installed some Spring Air Retracts in the Tiger 2. Was a bit of a job, but with the gear up, the plane looks so good. I put a strong 46 on it for power and she flew great. Good Luck, once again, Dave

Major T and Dave,

Thanks for your inputs.  Yes, I would like to put retacts on a Tiger 2 (40 size).  I found some electric servoless retracts that may work.  I would like to keep the tricycle gear concept but may have to convert it to a tail dragger.  I will have to see if I can insert a retract in the nose area.

Tom
