There is an after market stand off kit for the DLE20, so you have that option too.

TB
At first I thought you were refering to some kind of muffler stand off, thats what my last referance was but yes, that engine mount shure would make it easier to adjust the carb., wish I knew of it before hand, I might have used it but all along I was thinking it had to be rail mounted.

Thanks for the web site, Leroy

Prior to starting the covering I had cut 3 different sets of patterns for the fuselage and settled for one I hope will set the plane off nicely. Really hard finding one that hasn't been used before, there are so many. I have the fuselage about 80% done and should finish it and get the cowling and gear painted come the first of the week and show you what I have been doing. Learning to use the iron and heat gun has been quiet the learning experience, so far I have not had to pull any covering so I must be doing something right.

Wings are sheeted and that will be another challenge preventing air pockets, I still have more to learn. Ultracote seams to go on very nice the way it shrinks but those large wing pannels are something I've never done. I'll do my best and hope for the best as there is no turning back now.

Stay tuned, Leroy

UltrCote is by far the best iron on covering to work with. I have done a few sheeted wings and depending on the scheme you are doing it should be easy to do. If I am doing a multiple color wing top one color and bottom another I do the bottom the standard way. I start with the LE and cut a piece that is the right shape of the wing. Then I tack the LE pull back to the TE niche and tight. Then I tack the center section and work the tip. I have found that a heat gun and a glove work best. I pull the covering over the tip and heat it with the gun until I get a perfect tip.
Then I use the gun to heat the field while I push the air out towards the center of the wing. So I work from tip to cent. The center is only tacked and not sealed all the way. That way the air can get out. If you are doing multiple color then I start from the center and work to the tip. Start with the LE and work each piece back to the TE then trim the end and overlay the next piece. Overlaying is the hardest part and that is where you get the bubbles. I have tried every way I can and it all comes down to heat. To much and it bubbles, not enough it comes of later. I have had great success with Ultracote and once you get the right heat it works great. Some have made a pin wheel that they roll over the overlay areas. It makes little tinny holes and lets the air out, self seals and you cant see it unless you get your face right on the plane. Good luck.

Thanks Tony the information you mentioned is so true as I'm finding out. You do very nice work and those pictures do help. Temp is the key to success as you stated, learning how to use it is the other.

So far so good and the fuselage is nearly done, pict's will come shortly.

Ay long last I have a finished (nearly) fuselage, could not match the urethane paint on cowling and even took a sample of covering along. White has to be the hardest color to match, problem is if I redo it I probably will still be off color. Striping was cut from the covering and the darts on stableizers will probably get the same treatment. Canopy will be trimmed with polished Flite Metal and should look pretty good, I tried to tint it with Rite dye but it didn't take well, water was 140 degrees so I don't know why it didn't work. Need to get a pilot now, maybe a tiger, don't know what else would look good in there. Bottom of stablizers has red and white checkers on them and the bottom of wings will have same.

Wings are next and if I screw up that will be where I do. This is pretty new stuff to me so it's a learn as you go process for me. Wish I had a couple more planes under me with covering, as I said before I'm a painter.

I just painted the gear today and it was'nt dry enough to mount the gear with the wheels and pants on it so I couldn't get it on the plane, guess I will see how they look tomorrow.

More to come later,

Looks great! Where did the wing saddle go though? Don't see how the wing mounts on your ship.

Thanks for nice comment Tony and LOL your pilot, thats outragious, don't know if I would want him in my plane he might just run it into the ground, "Thats suppose to be funny". Now a bobble head might be fun if I could find one that wouldn't lose his head and fly it into the ground.

I'll come up with something.

Toivo how soon you forget, my wings are now plug in, I bashed everything on this ship, it's now a super Tiger 60, "well I hope it's super in the air". Will look better when the wings are covered. I have tried to do something no one else has done and I think I accomplished that.

And for the rest of you, thanks for liking what I have done so far, it's nice to have that kind of support from you. I would like to see someone else bash this plane, it takes a bashing pretty well. Personally I think the plane looks alot better than a build straight from the box however it is still a really neat plane built from the plans. I dare someone to do what I have done, just trying to motivate ya all, ha ha.

It's been fun and I have learned alot, next I get to fly it," oh boy, that will be fun".

Oh I remember that all right! You must have covered over your plug-in holes. Looks like you will be getting the shovels out to fly it soon.

Went out today to find a pilot for my plane and found one, Ice Age Saber Tooth Tiger will fit nicely and I will try to make him look meaner with some art work. Also been laying out the patterns for the wings but I don't like the look so will lay out some more, I also did a couple of large piece coverings shrank on with the heat gun and I got no bubbles and never pulled an edge, getting better all the time and the more you do the better you get. Hope to get some on the plane tomorrow.

When I get completly finished with the build I will get the engine broke in and install the electronics, everything is sitting there just waiting. I did the lateral balance also and added 10 grams to the left wing tip, now I can put the tips on which are plates designed to direct air flow over ailerons.

Toivo we had snow on our runway and it went away but we got more which is almost gone, with spring right around the corner it won't be long before were all out flying and I plan on doing alot of it this year, yea, yea. gonna be a good year seeing I no longer work.

Just like all builds they come to a end and I have reached the build end of mine. Still have electronics to put in it and get the 20cc engine broke in. "Oh", I'm going to paint the cowling blue with trailing chevrons as soon as the white fully cures. and glue the canopy on. Other than that there isn't much left to do.

I like the way the scheme came out, looks like a fast sport plane and it probably will be. With a saber tooth tiger for a pilot it should tear up the sky at our field. I hope it will flip, cartwheel, hover and knife edge as it will have the power to get serious, at least thats what I built it for.

I would like to thank everyone that followed my build and would like to see some one else bash another one right here. I will post the fully finished plane as soon as it's complety finished

I also think I will get some larger wheel pants and wheels, I think if I fly off grass those on there now could be a problem.
