So I am playing with finishes to see how it comes out?

The rudder looks good with the surface details on it. I am waiting on yellow rivets from CV to finish it off.

B

The surface details have been lazer cut from the same covering. G-10 for the rudder plate cover.

I am loving this brushed aluminum covering. It has a grain so you can play around with diferent directions.

Silver vinyl rivets by CV

I did the bottom as a test and to practice. Applying vinyl rivets on plastic covering is not the same as primed FG.

I like it so fare, thoughts?

So it's only 30,000 give or take 10,000 rivets

It would be sacrilegious not to do so! It will be a combination of aluminum skin and silver paint on covering like it's big brother.

T/B
I like the look and a great job, but I think you will be seeing double with all those rivets

I am getting the grove back on the rivets, once I am going at it in ernist I should be able to do a whole wing surface in one sitting.

I will be painting the invasion strips after the detailing is done.

top is all done, onto the left stab.

Wings are in my truck and I will get started on them tomorrow.

On the bench for today will be covering and finishing the left stab, elevator, and maybe the fin. My aero foil will be here tomorrow as all fiberglass parts will get that. The fin and fin fairings are all fiberglass so I will do that as soon as I get the foil. I want to get the cowl done as soon as I get the foils so Amy can do the air brush noes art. Wing construction will have to wait until I get my gear and some more 1/16" black G10 for the hinges.

Onward

Are you guys talking about the ultraCote or the aero foil? I am not doing wing tips or anything like that with the aero foil, just the wing fairins, fin, and fairings, the cowl, the belly and the gear doors.

I played hooky today and worked on my cub so I can go flying this weekend.

Yep T/B the aero foil on the tips, from what I have read the aero foil is a bit easer than the flite metal, as the aero foil is thinner ans seams to stretch better.

I won't have anything to bad, the cowl opening will be about as tough as it gets on this one.

Tony nice job on the rivets but they run with the root rib and are not spaced as you have them being somewhat diagonal, don't mean to pick on your plane, thought you might like to know..

Today I worked on the stab and elevator.

I am not doing any documentation or competing with this plane, strictly for fun and flying so I have taken liberties with the details and by no means is it accurate or scale.

The surface detailing was laser cut from the covering by Chad V and came out great.

Next I will do the fin, this should prove to be the most difficult part of all as it is attached to the fuselage.

That looks fantastic Tony! Please send me some high-res pics of the finished airplane if you will as this will be perfect to showcase what can be done with my rivets on a film covered model. Are you planning a clear coat of any kind?

Thanks Chad, I will send some pics when she is done, 30k rivets later done

I don't know if I will clear coat or not, I know some rivets will fall off, but that's cool.

Well at least I will try anything, not sure it all comes out great

I started to do the fin fairing, I used some aero foil to see how it works.

For the most part the aero foil is not that hard to work with, just takes a little expieriance.
It took a few tries to get the first piece down. I'm using small pieces as I learn how to apply it.

My method is to lay some blue masking tape down where I want the foil to end. In this case I start at the stab butt and work to the fin line. I am using a dense balsa block sanded smooth on the edges and a hardwood dowl to burnish the foil. I know they are not the tools that most use but it's all I got right now.

The plastic covering is going on in panle sections, bottom then top working my way up and forward. I am using the same blue tape methods as the foile. I lay blue tape to outline where I want to end the panle, after I lay the foil or covering I then cut along the tape line and remove the tape with the exsecs material.

Once I get the left side to the same point I will do the fine.

I got the left side done and the fin is done too.
I tend to know if I like something or not and just with the little I have done with the aero foil I feel that doing panle lines, vinyl rivets and paint is th best finish so most likely the Meister will get painted.

The aero foil has a kind of orenge peal look to it and wrinkles and bubbles are easaly to come by.

For this build the aero foil is fine and yes there are wrinkles and blemishis, but the covering has them too so that's cool, step back about 5-10' and it looks awesome

There surely is nothing wrong with Chad's rivets, mighty good looking from my point of view and a lot easier than any other ways. That plane is going to be a knock out when you get it done Tony.

Thanks OKC,
I got a little detailing done. It really makes a big diferance.

here is covering with no detailing.

Here is with detailing.

Still got some touch up to do and then the unfinished side, then more covering.

That little wrinkle looks like scale hanger rash picked up in the field! You see a lot of wear in the surviving pictures of the birds in the theater of operations.
