Now that our first event is over and the next event knocking on the door.
I am going as fast as I can, work is furious too so we will see. Five weeks to get her done and flight tested. There will be one of the bigest gathering of giant B-17 in central Texas this year at the Ken White memorial warbird.

For all of my fellow Jug Heads out there the San Diego Air & Space Museum has added some more vintage Jug pictures to the archive on FlickR.

I am trying to get all the painting done this week as the wing will have no paint on it.

I got the red on the cowl done, I used insignia red enamel shot with my air brush.

Next at is the yellow for the noes art, then the olive drab.

I love those FTE replica radials, they look great when you doll them up like that.

Got the yellow done this evening.

I still need to do the oliv drab but I can do that later as I want to do the fuselage with that.

Now Amy can do the airbrush artwork.

looks great.

Tip. Sanding the aluminum with 400 wet dry will give the aluminum an authentic weathered look.

Thanks Gary, I will let it weather naturally as most of the plane is covered in ultracoat.

Tony,, out of curiosity what does she charge you for a cowl??

I had some vinyl made up for my restoration, but the scan & printed decal nose art just isn't going to look right.

I'm not sure but I'm guessing $150

here is her website.

http://www.airbrushbyamy.com

for a scale plane that one spends a year (s) building and detailing to stick a vinyl decal of noes art on the plane just doesn't do the modle justice.

I am very curiouse to see how this noes art will come out. Hopefully she can do it this weekend.

Thanks, that's a little step for this model.

Yeah, it looks pretty cheesy but that's because of the file I sent them, they weren't able to do much with it., I was going to try to retouch the photo and print it out on water transfer decal paper.

good luck,,

Today I moved back home to Austin so I will only be working on the build on the weekends. As I was driving and the cowl sitting next to me I realized how bad I had screwed up. First, why did I cover the entire cowl with foil tap??

I only needed to cover the right side, the bottom and the cowl flaps on the sides. All the red can be fiberglass painted, and the left side for the pinup (yellow), and the top gets olive drab. So if Amy can't do the artwork this weekend I'm redoing it, brain fart I guess

There is no cure for OCSD but one can manage it with constaint reminder that it's only sports scale and get it done and fly is the goal so I don't think I will redo the cowl, it is fine 5' away.

OCSD? Is that anything like the CRS and senior moments I suffer from? The wife is already picking out my memory unit in advance!

I figured you were going to paint over the tape so you could weather it by chipping the paint away

[QUOTE=FlyerInOKC; The wife is already picking out my memory unit in advance! [/QUOTE]

MY Wife is creating an alternate memory for me, one that favors her remembrance of everything.

Best regards, (I think, let me check with my wife), Richard

So it looks like Amy will be doing the artwork this Saturday evening. I am working on finishing the top of the fuselage so I can paint the olive drab. I will be negotiating a base price for RC noes art for others that want this as I am sure others would do this if it was affordable and done in a timely manor so we will see.

Working a bit more on the detail rivets, got most of the right side done and everything I need on the top so I can paint the olive drab.
