Default Got the motor mounted.

I have the fuse about 75% done. I've built and joined the sides, then mounted the motor. I was going with a radial look, but I think I've switched to a Ranger 6 cylinder look. I thinned the firewall width one inch. I have two options for mounting the motor, my first choice is like it's mounted now, but in one of the pictures you can see the other optional mounting with the motor on front of the mount, I don't like that but if it's needed for balance I can do it.

As far as I know, SIG has come out with 10 versions of the Kadet and you can see what I gathered here: http://www.wanderings-ds.com/whs/kadet-versions.html
Of course, several thousand guys have done their own thing with the Kadet too, which probably makes it one of the most "modified/bashed" designs ever, if not #1.

Skylark-flier thanks for that brotherhood number and also the link with the info on the different versions of the Kadet. Very interesting. Tomorrow is a weather day here. So I am going to start on the Kadet tomorrow.

Thanks for that list ET. That's a useful list. I thought it odd that the MkII came out before the MkI. Maybe because the MKI is similar to the original version. I always wanted the EP-42 after seeing one assembled in a hobby shop. Now they are big money on flee bay.

We use our big Kadet to pull up a glider......but my brother found a Kadet "Jr." still in the box. We use a .60 glow engine in the big one and it pulls fine. Any suggestions as to set up for elec on the small one?

skylark-flier posted that list for me. See post 2500. I didn't know how to quote just that portion of his post without also including the brotherhood list. So I copied n paste. I should have been a bit more clear to give him credit. That list is very informative.

I've just started scratch building the Kadet LT-40. I'm about finished drawing out my building plans. Next I need to order some balsa to add to what I have on hand. Local hobby shops are not stocked for the scratch builder. It should be an interesting n fun build.

As I remember it, SIG came out with the Mk-II and - at that time - figured INCORRECTLY that the original Kadet was history. Mk-II came out Spring 1980 and by Fall they had so much feedback they finally re-issued the original under the guise of Mk-I very early in 1981. The original 1972 Kadet and the Mk-I Kadet are virtually identical - same plane.

It's hard to beat the service that Sig provides. Other, larger suppliers, should take notice.

Yep, the only times I experienced delays from SIG were over holidays, which can be expected.

My build is going slow this is what I've got done lately.
First picture is making the leading edge cuff's bottom.
The next two show the cuff after the epoxy dried.
Then the wing bolt block and diagonal pieces on top back.
I show the ply plate I put on the bottom, stringers and diagonal pieces.
The last two pictures show the front loading battery, and the original too low location of the motor.

It's not a race, Rich. It'll get done when it gets done.

I like the fuselage stringers.

I'm curious. I see that you used wax paper to protect the wing from the epoxy saddle. I've used West System epoxy/filler mix for several projects. I use kitchen plastic wrap, and it literally falls off of the epoxy. Is it the same with wax paper?

You do NOT build slow, *I* build slow!

Your build is looking good, too!

I've used both, I think it comes off the waxed paper better. The plastic wrap can get little wrinkles in it which for small snags, you don't get that with the waxed paper. I hold the waxed paper on the wing with a light dusting of 3M 77. Super MonoKote works also, has it's own sticky, but is more expensive.

For some reason the wax paper I used bleeds through epoxy and other glues.

I've heard some people comment that the waxed paper that is out today is not the same as we used to build with years ago. I, too, have had waxed paper stick to my balsa when used with CA an. Parchment paper works a little bit better, bit it also isn't foolproof. Instead, I use the backing from rolls of Monokote.

Just my $.02

I found the backing from the old SIG covering even better than monojoke backing. Its heavier and lasts longer, and glue does not stick to it.

Maybe some of you could have a race. It would be interesting to see just how fast a Kadet can go together by an expert.
There was a fellow in our club who built almost 50 Seniors. I had one numbered 45. He also built a 4 engine Kadet, and was a big inspiration why I love these Sigs.

I have also had wax paper stick. Now I put some cooking oil (usually olive oil) on a paper towel and wipe the wax paper with it. Just a very small amount and no sticks. Some car paste wax would work great.

I could probably build another LT-40 in under a week. It goes together a lot faster than the Cub. I have about 3 weeks in my Biper, and part of that was in designing the lower wing mounts and mods. If I just built it as a clipped wing plain Cub it would be ready for radio by now.

I just made the top part of my leading edge wing cuff and the waxed paper stuck to the epoxy. Normally I use slow epoxy, but I wanted to take the plane to my club's meeting tonight so I used 6 minute, it got quite hot,it must have melted the wax. I guess if you don't use 24 hour epoxy, don't use waxed paper.
