LOL Thats why my tablesaw is still in the garage, I know I can get it down there, but getting it back out? Cast iron goes down a lot easier than it does coming back up!

Here’s my Kadet Senior, built from the kit, but I modified it to use wing bolts instead of the rubber bands.

Maiden flight was yesterday.

Great model to build and fly!

Thanks, I have been building and flying rc planes for some 40 years and always wanted to build this one... and I finally did!
I was very happy to discover that I can still enjoy building and flying such a basic 3 channel model so much

Built it for fun and for running in engines in flight (has a universal engine mount for that purpose).

yes
a basic 3 channel plane is just what the doctor ordered.
Besides it’s fun to show off for the kids errr..fellow new flyers you don’t need all those extra switch’s and channels

How are the kids errr.. fellow new flyers going to see that nice plane when they can't look past their smart phones to see what's going on around them? It will probably take a twin turbine flying by at full throttle and at less than 4 feet(roughly just over a meter) just to get their attention now days, at least here in the US

I'm finishing up my Senior and an LT-40(my third) for floats. The Senior is a tail drager, bolt on wing, with LG and cowl from the ARF version with mods to cowl for turbo prop appearance. It also has ailerons. Powered by a Cobra 4120 series on 5S pack. I also bought a set of 1/4 scale Cub tires(Dubro) for an additional bush plane appearance.
The LT -40 is also tail dragger, bolt on wing and set up for floats. Bought the cowl for the ARF version, lengthened the rudder, split the elevator to allow for the rudder and tail wheel. Using dual servos for the ailerons. Floats are from Sea Plane supply. Powered by a Hyperion 3025 outrunner.
The floats are in progress as I need to glass them. Will be mounting a servo in the left float for the rudder.
Sorry no pics as my old digital camera went south on me and I haven't bought a new one....been looking at the Nikon B 500 Cool Pic.
Maybe I can get my brother to take a few snaps with his cell phone.
I don't own a cell phone.

I have found the rudder on the LT-40 to be big enough, I can barrel roll mine with just the rudder. Making it larger may help with hammer heads though if I were to get some nose weight off. Mine is also a tail dragger. I may put wider ailerons on mine though, the skinny stock ones aren't as effective at low speeds as I would like.

Default SIG Kadet LT-40 on 6" Rubbers

Greetings! Looks like this thread needs some fresh content! Can the maintainer of this thread please add me to the brotherhood?

Since the weather was absolutely beautiful yesterday here in Central Iowa, I was able to get out for the first flight of 2020! I have had my Kadet since the early 2000s, and just am getting back into the hobby now that I'm "grown up" and have access to my own personal flying field at home. Until this year it had not been flown since ~2004! Still running 72mhz and original batteries

I love my Kadet, and this past fall I converted it to a taildragger and added 6" DuBro pneumatic tires to handle the relatively rough ground. It makes taxiing, takeoff, and landing so easy! Looking forward to a great flying season with this bird.

Now go build another wing with 1" Dihedral! Mine is a blast to fly, built as a tail dragger, 1" dihedral, bolt on wing, does ribbon loops, flies inverted, knife edge, you know, things a trainer normally can't do.

They're right - those 6" tires are GREAT and you need to build another wing - much flatter. 1" sounds about right. Sure worked well on my Mk-II.

Gotcha logged - #220. WELCOME to the B'hood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been awhile - here's (hoping) the brotherhood, as I've got it today.

Number 220!! I love it! Thanks so much for the add and good work on the update.

Boy, now you guys have got me thinking, maybe I do need to build another wing. Can I buy just a wing kit from SIG??

The idea is more and more attractive to me. Here's what I would do in the process:
  • reduce dihedral down to 1"
  • Incorporate split barn door flaps and ailerons
  • Wing tip NAV lights
  • L.E. landing lights
  • Others??

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's on https://sigmfg.com/collections/sig-r...nt=45835297673

Part # SIGRPBK267 Kadet LT40 wing-kit (includes torque rod). $59.99

One note though - I'd be VERY likely to build it with servos on each wing. MUCH more "commanding" that way.

There are sooooooo many possibilities with the LT40. Adding flaps to the inner third and just using the outer third for ailerons ... flaperons ... the possibilities are endless.

If you were REALLY going wild, flaps & slats.

((oh boy, don't get me started - I'll cost you a fortune))

Since I have a laser, I can make my own parts for a second wing. May reduce it to a 1/2" dihedral and put some curve to the bottom of the airfoil starting 1 rib out from the root. Imagine the lift it would have! Could fly it backwards with a 5 MPH breeze. Would need flaps for sure in order to land.

Since you have the plans, why not make your own wing kit? It doesn't take a lot of work, just a band/scroll saw and a sander.
I'm doing that on a pair of Kadet Jrs that I'm building and adding ailerons that are 25% of the wing chord and three bays wide with servos in the center bay. I figure I will have a plane that is VERY RESPONSIVE that way
