Yeah. I can think of all kinds off goof off stuff besides this. Today is a week and white cell count back up so poison really did a number. Looks like a few more days. My son it setting up a sim tomorrow on a laptop because there is no way they will even let me build a Gilloqs kit here. The ER doc missed it thinking it was a boil and it got a 2 day or so head start.
So this ole guy appreciates seeing all the Kadet videos on you tube. LOL.

When in the SIG fun fly? I really want to go. Even if Kadet isn't finished. I will just bring an engine and radio and buy a sport cub when I get there. :-)

This weekend. I plan to be there on Saturday, bringing my LT-40 and 4*120. I got to fly yesterday, from my bad side (clockwise), and I finally landed my 4*120 smooth as silk, but almost over shot since the engine idle was too high, had to hit the kill switch to keep it out of the mud. It used the entire runway, but nice and straight and not a bounce. Couldnt say the same for my Twin Otter, I haven't quite got the hang of landing that one yet, its definitely a rudder, throttle, elevator plane on landing, it hits too hard, so thinking it may be a tad nose heavy too.

We'll I am in the hospital still so that's out. Hoping I am out by weekend. Is post a pic of what poison will do to flesh but it's too nasty to be appropriate.
I got the new Kadet kit within like 3 days or ordering it and it's still sitting on bench waiting on me.

Yall take lots of pics please. This is one I really wanted to attend.

If you are concerned about that then put it on face photobucket and provide a link and warning. I have seen pics on here of some horrendous propeller chop chops.

I just put another aileron servo in my LT-40 ARF so I can have flapperons. I took the servo out of the ply holding plate in the center of the wing, just widen the hole enough to put a second servo in, reused the servo linkages, it only took about 15 minutes. Now I have a about 4° of flapperon set on one switch, and about 25° down set on another switch. The 4° is for a climb and glide event, the 25° is for quicker loops, and steep landing approaches. I found with the 25° flaps the ailerons are almost useless, so I put a aileron rudder mix on another switch, with ~75% rudder mixed in, now the ailerons are very effective.

I flew the plane into the very top of a 50' tree and it suffered some damage getting it down, so I've decided I'll use this one for contest, and build my grandson a new clean silk and dope Sr. to learn on.

I saw a post about the Kadet Brotherhood a while back when I first joined the forums, but it took awhile to find it again. Always loved flying my students Kadets, but never actually owned one of my own, so recently I finally fixed that. Was just in the mood for something that would do slow motion touch and goes and be very relaxing to fly, and also something that would be fun to hand the transmitter to visitors now and then. Since it's mostly overpowered rockets that I take to the field, a change now and then is fun.

I have never owned an ARF as I started scratch building about 40 years ago; also seldom build kits, since I prefer doing it my way. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I needed a project, found a 8x10 Kadet plan, and blew it up from that.

Oh, I didn't mention that I like to build larger planes, did I? I draw my own plans whatever size I feel like, and it seems that anything from 6-8 foot spans are great flyers.

So, not sure if this thing qualifies for the Brotherhood, but here it is. Built last week, and test flew Sunday morning - in a 15-20 mph breeze. Take off roll about 10', and landing speed was about zero ground speed. Am waiting for the spring winds to calm a bit for the next flight, but will post a few photos then. Here a couple of photos and the specs:
Span 90". Fuse 70". Weight 7.5 pounds. An old OS 60 for power. 12x6 prop. Will come back with more flight photos in the future.

Added link for plan and last photo in case anyone else would like to build an oversize Kadet.

Nice big plane with a reasonable weight. I can see you're a fine builder with the capped ribs and all.

OH, I'm pretty sure it does! Great looking plane, if Sig had done this years ago I'll bet there wouldn't be a Telemaster. Looking forward to more photos.

Tom, you're awesome!! You can turn an 8x10 sheet of paper into a 158% Kadet Mk-I - even larger than a Kadet Sr., and from copier to airborne in just a week - that's truly in a class of her own, way beyond impressive. Of course it qualifies, my friend. Gotta tell ya, that's a beautiful plane and Rich is right - she's everything a Telemaster is, and more. She's sure to be a great "lazy day" flier, I'm sure we're all looking forward to seeing some in-flight pics - I know that I am. Welcome to the SIG Kadet Brotherhood, gotcha logged with #152.

Am waiting for the spring winds to calm a bit for the next flight, but will post a few photos them. Here a couple of photos and the specs:
Span 90". Fuse 70". Weight 7.5 pounds. An old OS 60 for power. 12x6 prop. Will come back with more flight photos in the future.
I don't see why it does not qualify as a Kadet SR or at least a variant. Good looking build.
I have built a number of planes from the small plans in a magazine, and just enlarged as best I could often free hand.
The are a lot of what could be called variants of Kadet's flying. I myself am planning a major variant of a Kadet. Tri Motor Bi-plane. Just ain't had time to work on the plans. Got to teach myself "DraftSight" and find the time. Live just keep happening, too many curve balls to dodge.
2 surgeries this year so far. And the struggle for a permanent roof over our heads. In process of our second move in 2 months.

About variants, I am or at least as soon as I can resume building again doing a variant of a CL RingMaster. I asked the same question you did Tom before I even started building it. I posted the question of whether or not my proposed design could be called a RM variant over on the BHOTR site. Got a lot of solid the you bets from membership. And then if you look at the Kadet variant I am proposing to build, well heck a course yours is a Kadet SR. I will look later for the post. Welcome to the club Tom

Hi Everyone...Can anyone out there give me some idea for a starting point for exponential settings (rudder, elevator and ailerons) for my Kadet Senior and Senior Sportster? I am just an average flyer.
Thanks for any assistance.

It will be to a big degree dependant on you radio brand. Those setting can be all over the darn map, The manufactures all do it it their own way and their own amounts.

I tossed to the garbage can the TX, & RX for my SR. Waiting till I can buy a new TX for all of my birds. Money is extremely tight right now.
But I did have dual rates on all of my planes just be cause it was there. I flew my Kadets (SR & JR) mostly on high rates. I have 2" wide strip ailerons on my SR, that were simply added to the oem TE, so my SR has a 2" wider chord than the plans. It was fine with a bunch of throw. I did use low rates for landings though, about 75% of max. Really soothed out roll, but left me with plenty of control.

The expo I try to set curves that yield similar to the above dual rates with the stick in center to middle position. That seems to give me the best of both settings.

I really don't think you'll need any expo, this is a very stable bird, and not twitch at all. I put a gyro in mine to see what it would do, it was more stable without the gyro than with the gyro turned on. With the gyro turned on the wings rocked slightly, with it off it was rock solid.

As Ken said you can set it up so the expo gives you in effect high and low rates without flipping a switch, but I used that on a Cub once and didn't like it, I would give it a little aileron then need a little bit more and it would give me a lot more. Some planes are better off without expo.

I at one time did have dual rates and expo, but have since disabled them on all my planes. I may need to add some to the warbirds and Chipmunk only for landings.

I've always wanted to build a 200% Kadet SR with a 3 wing. Just for fun and power it with a ryobi 4c weed eater conversion engine.

Agreed on the Expo. Don't like it 3d extremes I can see it.

Expo and dual rates are for my 3D Edge 540. I really want them there. Kadet Sr. doesn't do anything like that, so I've never even thought of using expo on it.

Cool, 160" wingspan. If you need a three piece wing, you probably want a two piece fuse. That would be a fun project. I'm not sure that Ryobi would have the power. You would want to swing at least a 20" prop. Think 20 pound plane.

[QUOTE=skylark-flier;11817922] Of course it qualifies, my friend.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Reason I asked if my Kadet qualifies is that it is neither a Sig, or an ARF, or a kit, and this is the Kit forum. Anyway here are the flight photos I promised. Have to say that the 90" Kadet turned out to be everything I wished for. Today we had a 5-7 mph wind about 10˚ off the runway heading, so the Kadet was out for its second time. It handles like a dream, although I have to mention as any flight instructor would, that it likes coordinated turns. That is to say that if we went full-scale flying together, and I started trying to make turns using just ailerons and no rudder, you would soon get tired of being thrown sideways around the cockpit. It will turn with just aileron input, but this bird is big enough that you can easily see when a little rudder is used along with the ailerons the turns really smooth out. Sure, you can just program that into today's computer radios, but come on! We are supposed to be pilots here, and the Kadet flies just like it is supposed to. There is more to the left stick on the transmitter than just throttle.

This baby flies so smooth. It will take off at 1/4 throttle, or you can blast off into the sky when opening up the 60. A bigger engine is not needed for a 90" version. Speaking of which, a 160" version might be a bit of an overkill. I once flew a 12' Telemaster that a friend built from some plans I drew for him. It was more like a powered kite than an airplane. When models get that big they need to be built heavier to keep flight moments in scale, otherwise they are not all that much fun to fly as they become a bit unresponsive. If you want to build something larger than this 90" version, I might go with a 120" model, with a 120 or 160 engine, but make sure the structure is beefed up and the weight is around 12-15 pounds. That would probably fly very nicely!

This model flies very well at 7.5 pounds, but if it weighed 10 or so there would probably not be much difference in flying characteristics. The glide would probably stretch out a bit, but I always thought one of the best things about a Kadet is when they are lightly loaded, it is very easy for new students to learn to land on the runway, as the Kadet does not float endlessly along. Probably one of the best reasons that they are still one of the best trainers around.

Questions? Comments? We are the Brotherhood, so lets hear them. And don't hesitate when you start getting ideas about blowing up you own plane. What fun! Can't wait to see photos of your projects.
