I found myself wondering why there are a few other "Brotherhood" threads, and not one for probably the most popular line of planes ever flown. The Sig Kadets! I brought this up on a build thread of mine while I'm building another LT40 and there seems to be some interest. If everyone agrees, I would like to include all of the Kadet lines, and not just limit this brotherhood to the kit builders. I would like to have the ARF guys join us as well.

Shall we do it?

If so, I am GaryHarris, Kadet member #1.

Hello Gary,

Some questions if you do not mind.

I understand that to join this group an individual must own a Sig Kadet.

What proofs do we need as having owned and/or flown a Sig Kadet ?

What are any advantages or benefits of joining this group ?

Thanks for your reply.

Howdy Zor. There are no specific rules on anything here that I know of as no one is really in charge here. My guess is at least half of the flyers here at one time owned/flew a Kadet and for some it might of been their first plane. I honestly didn't think this Brotherhood would be as successful as at has been so far, but hey, why not?

I see no advantages or benefits in any sort of material way, just a Brotherhood to share their love of probably one of the most successful line of planes ever produced with each other.

Who would lie about a Sig Kadet, it's not like you're saying "I'm a Navy Seal, and that's my Ferrari parked out front."

Knowing you're not the only one crazy enough to love this old box design, Priceless.

I think you two wacked that nail square on the head Garry andsoarrich

Heck the Ringmaster brotherhood is just as relaxed. If have ever owned, built, or even wanted a Ringmaster or variant of some kind was all that you needed to join.

By the way Gary, thank you for starting this thread. I really enjoy it.

Thanks Rich and Ken. I hope this remains to be agenda free. Were just old kids playing with model planes.

Hi guys,

I asked and it did not cause any harm.

I read the comments that are well written and apprciate them.

I think that such "brotherhoods" does create a feeling of fraternity among folks of common interest and that is nice.

This fraternity is well worth the membership for anyone who qualifies.

Thanks for the replies.

The benefit of "joining" is just some nice fellowship with like-minded folks. Simple as that. lol

Well I finished my Kadet Senior ARF Blue/White Friday night. I put in a .52 E-Flight brushless motor with an E-flight 80 amp brushless ESC and I used a 6S 5000MAH Lipo battery. I was worried it was too much power and I had to place weight (6 oz) in the tail to balance. I flew her this morning and it was great. I had to feed in down trim and flew at half throttle. After about 10 min I landed and removed half the tail weight. This removed the down trim back to normal and it flew for another 5 min at half throttle. Now I will put on a drop box for parachutes and candy drop and will ad a glider tow. Oh what fun.

Have you measured the thrust on your system? I'm hesitant to put much more than 1:1 (thrust/weight) because I'm worried that I may damage the airframe or fold the wings or something. What is your experience with high-g maneuvers at full thrust (assuming you're using more than 1:1).?

Yes I have experience with high-g maneuvers BUT not with this plane and Not planning on it with a flat bottom 80 inch span. Just planning on haveing fun. To be totally honest (hope my wife does not read this) I have not checked the thrust to weight. The motor says to use a 11/8 to 12/8 prop which I used a 12/8 but now I think I will go to a 13/8 and see how that works. Still have some room between motor and ground clearence. But I will not be flying at full throttle but it is nice to have the power if I get into trouble. ( Now who ever gets into trouble with aircraft? ) LOL

Hi All,

I would appreciate it if you would include me into the Kadet Brotherhood. I build my Senior about ten years ago and am still enjoying the heck out of it. I rigged it for night flying but, alas some of the incandecent bulbs are begining to fail so it will be a day flyer only now.

I bashed it slightly by making it a tail dragger, bolt on wing and enclosing the nose section to clean it up a bit. The OS 61FS got the engine duties and does a fine job of hauling it around Nothing special really just a good sunday flyer.

Thank You for your consideration.

Hi Carlos!

In one of my earlier incarnations of Kadets, I had the same OS 61FS on it.. I found it to be rather underpowered and extremely heavy. Mine was a MKII version tho. Its too bad, I like that motor (I have 2 of them) but never have found a use for them..

Hi Soaring Steve,

The secret to getting a bit of performance out of the OS 61fs was using YS20/20 type fuel, and Fox Miracle glowplugs. I also prop them a little looser (higher rpm) and that seems to make them come alive. You should also treat the engine with afterun oil after every session. The higher nitro fuels seem to attract water more...

It seems to work for me at least. I have an OS 48FS on a Four Star and it was kinda doggy until a pattern flying friend let me try some really good 20/20 fuel. It made a world of difference. I was a believer then. I can now fly the same Four Star on floats, no problem.

Murphey 41 here...I've finished my Kadet LT25-TM...the TM stands for "Two Motors". I've mentioned in a previous post that it's a kit bashed LT25 into a pusher/puller. All up ready to fly weight is 5lbs with a wing loading of 17oz/sgft and a cube loading of 8.11. I took it out to the field but the runway wasn't clear enough for more than a taxi or two. Hoping for a warm day with a clear runway. Here are a couple photo's

A nice looking airplane with push pull thrust.

Must be interesting to fly.

Does my kadet senior qualify? Powered by a Saito 72, it has only been shot down once, by, of all things, a buzzard. Flown regular since building in 2005, I learned to fly r/c with it and still prefer to fly this plane over all others. I'm too old to for much 3d or stunt flying due to poor reflexes and even poorer eyesight. I have other planes that I seldom fly but added an electric 42b in 2009 that gets used regularly.

That style plane makes me think of those pushers where the prop is mounted behind wing. I always liked those types of frames. Very cool!

That's a beautiful looking plane! Was that an ARF or did you cote it yourself? I really like that blue stripe on the left wing.

Thanks Built it from a kit and nonokoted it the mid/early 80's. Only flew it a few times with help/trainer. Just fired the new 46 up last week been a little chilly sence to run it more.

Early 80s? hmmm. Have you had any problems with the coting or adhesive loosening up since then? One of my friends has an old kadet that he scratch-built in the 90s, and the some of the epoxy has become brittle, and the coting has lost its flexibility. He's going to remove the coting, touch up brittle joints, and recote it.

Hi Stupidscreenname,

I built the plane from a kit and it is covered with Supermonokote transparent orange, transparent blue with white trim. I added and shaped balsa blocks to the nose to enclose the front end. The main gear are from a FourStar 120 with a Klett tail wheel assembly. It seems to improve the ground handling over the tricycle gear as it is not as tippy.
