The SIG Brotherhood thread is up and running, you two have been added. Larry I made #1, I liked his story about being a SIG dealer and still having some of the old ones.

Now if only SIG could make some Warbird kits.....

Yo! Come on over!!! Coffee's on, wood stove will be fired up in just a bit. It's easy to find your way here - just look for the coldest shop east of the Mississippi with the most ice in the driveway. We got hit last night by the bottom end of the storm that took in the whole east coast last night - just 2.5" of snow but it's got a half inch of ice underneath it. Makes driving a bit "interesting". That's OK though, not really planning to go anywhere today.

Dave, glad to see you got the kit, makin' some good progress too I see. You'll be caught up and past me in no time. Are you doing a build thread?
Hey Don! Naw, not really planning to rush anything on the build - got until Spring to get it done. Besides, the longer it takes, and the more time I spend down in the shop, the less I hear about the "honey-do" list. See? 45 years of marriage (as of June) HAS taught me something. Besides, I learned the magic phrase a long time ago; "You're right, (hang your head) I'm wrong, (a bit more) I'm sorry". Works every time.

Not really planning a build thread - don't want to compete with yours (which I'm following religiously). I'm keeping some notes on my own website - you might call it a build page(s). Nothing fancy, just a chronology and some pics of what I'm doing. Starts at http://www.wanderings-ds.com/whs/52-kadet-build-01.html. I kept a few notes when I built my Bird-of-Time a few years ago, thought I'd do it again.

Ooooooooo, you make me drool (but then, a lot of things make me drool at my age) - Warbirds!! I've got an old TopFlite P-39 kit that's been about half-finished for over 15 years. One day I might get back into that one. Then again, y' never know.

AHA! Found it! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/kit-...otherhood.html - yeah, great! I see it's growing too, that's good.

Well y'all, I'm off to the shop for some glue-sniffin' and stuff. Later

Live wire, do you have any younger friends that are good pilots? I have always figured I would rather see my favorite planes flown by others, than to sell them...

Geez man, can't get a pad yet - my cell phone still works. Of course, it's over 10 years old, but it works.

57 years - and still able to think for yourself - - IT'S A MIRACLE!!!!!

I kept a few notes when I built my Bird-of-Time a few years ago, thought I'd do it again
[/QUOTE]

Dave, them some wise words. You are more than welcome to post your progress on your Mk II on my build thread, in fact I would be honored, and I think it would be cool.

The key to a successful marriage is to remember the man is the boss! The wife makes all the little decisions and the man makes all the BIG decisions. The only problem is after the wife makes all the little decisions there aren't any BIG decisions left.

10 years of marriage this Feb 21 and what I learned works best is.

Ready?

Are you sure?

yes Dear

Works every time.

BTW if you want to compete on coldest shop east of the Miss, try the one where the B-17 is being restored. Been in the sub-zero's here for so long that there is frost on the frost on the frost on the insides of the plane. Anyone bold enough to stick their tongue on the plane? There will be enough cold trapped under that concrete floor that the barn will be cool all summer.

Seems today that kids have other thing on their mind. I started a club in 1976 and had about a dozen young people and the rest were from 40 UP. Most od the people I have helped build and learn to fly were retired old men like me. Right now most have left the hobby or passed away. A few remain but these I don't want to talk about.

That means there aren't any decisions at all left.

Its so cold in my shop the planes are hiding under their wings to keep warm, and when you loose your hearing you don't have to listen to a lot just ignore it. Some times works some times don't.

Oh, I absolutely, positively GUARANTEE that I'm boss of the house...

and I have my wife's permission to say so...

AND both cats' permission.

I followed my father's lead years ago - it's called "selective hearing" - and it works. I respond to that which I want, ignore that which I don't, and so far it's working just fine. He also called it his BS filter.

I like that - hiding under their wings ... very good indeed.

Oh, yeah, my new Mk-II wings are done. Laying out the fuse in the morning.

Don't let it go to your head though or the cats will put you back in your place!

OMG, you're both sooooooooooooo funny ... uh, yeah.

It's so cold here, ... aw, I can't compete - - witches and thinsulate bras - - hehehehehehehehe, OMG - that truly IS good.

Went and did the firewall for the Mk-II, took quite a bit of the day to get it right, but it IS right. Once I actually mounted the engine (and found out that I have to order a new remote needle valve assembly) I actually got to thinking about the idea of mounting it inverted. I like the clean look of that front end. Has anyone actually done something like mounting inverted on a Mk-II?

You do know about the balls on the brass monkey, don't you?

Does your carb have a screw in the side of the barrel that the inlet enters? If so, you may be able to screw the valve assembly directly into the carb body and get rid of the remote assy altogether. I did so and have no more bubbles in the remote assy to carb body or broken remote assys. Note that OS finally did it right again and moved the needle back to the carb body, albeit at an angle so that those with fat fingers don't stick them in the prop (like I have).

Re the inverted engine mounting, I have not had good luck with inverted glow engines. I prefer to mount them sideways with the muffler under the fuse (with an extension if needed). Looks clean from at least one side. :-)

Good luck and remember that takeoffs are optional, but landings are mandatory.

Sincerely, Richard/Kadet Mk I/II, Kadet Junior, Kougar, 1/4 J3

I can! It's colder here than a naked Hawaiian in a snow storm! And that's cold!

You guys complaining about the cold is about the cruelest joke ever... ON YOU! My 'building season' has been indefinitely interrupted by beautifully warm weather and a lack of snow. Shoot, our ground is even thawed and almost ready to plant a garden. It did drop down top the low 40s this morning a gave us all a fright, but it's warming back up. I love out global climate exchange.

On the inverted engine idea, I too have never had good luck with inverted engines but have installed several on their side. My latest Seniorita is modified to a side ways engine with a modified muffler to clear the firewall. Built the cowling around it from soft balsa blocks and did a lot of sanding. Looks nice, but getting the muffler to clear the firewall is a problem.

Hi Gary-- PLEASE add me to the Kadet Brotherhood. I've been a modeler for over 50 yrs, and am married to a wonderful woman, who has finally taken an interest in learning to fly. A fellow club member egged her on to try to learn last summer, and had a Kadet SR, electric powered, and she finally submitted to trying. She picked it up pretty quick, at least keeping it in the air, so I decided I would get her one. A youngster in our club had one hanging in his garage that he learned to fly on, and i bought it from him 2 weeks ago. I brought it home, cleaned about an inch of dust from it, installed an OS 46 2 stroke, and radio gear, and it is ready for test flight. As u can see, she does put up with me building on the kitchen table, so I'm lucky there. I'm a little excited about it, and hope she enjoys it as much as I do. I can't wait till Mother Nature gives us a break soon-- Dean
