Awsome. Threads are easy here as no the other big sites. I do build threads on some other site where the pic size bytes is much smaller. I have to edit the p[ics to 18% to fit them. Those are a pain in the behind. Some are easy to link to photo bucket. And one you have to know html to do so. Needles to say it is a royal pain, But it is my favorite CL site, so put up with the limits.

Hello folks,

I have been doing some figurations on the idea of snap in wing struts.

Atached pics are from the monitor and consequently not too sharp.
My scanner is on another computer.

I will respond to any questions.

My Kadet kit showed up yesterday, but I haven't checked it out.

I was delayed because I've been making progress on my Lockheed Vega. I mounted the wings, and set the incidence .

Hi TomCrump,

I am curious what are the values for incidences; Wings and stabilizer.
Also . . . is there any thrust angle settings and what are they ?

Thanks,

Zor

I haven't looked, but the info should be on the plans. I believe that you said that you purchased the kit, so you should be able to locate that info.

My Kadet Sport required down thrust, but no right thrust.

TomCrump,

I was referring to your Lockheed Vega.
You said you mounted the wings and set the incidence.

Sorry for the confusion. Since this is a Kadet thread, I'll refer you to my Vega build, where your questions are answered. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2237248

Thanks TomC.

Stab +1 and wings 0. I will browse the linked thread later.
Thanks also for that link.

Several years ago, I lost my SR ARF with an FS 91 in a similar manner, pulling out of a high sped dive. Not fun. Which is one reason I stuck with an FS 61 in my new Sport. It's too easy to get carried away with pushing your plane to the limits. Struts are a good idea. I wish some manufacturer like Dubro would come out with some good clip on struts. I don't like the type with the fiddly little bolts, and I tryed clip on cleavises on one and they kept failing. Maybe locking linch pins of some sort.

Default More preparation for the build

Following preparation of the wing ribs ( post 1770 ) I am now preparing for the assignment of the wood pieces.

Having a concept of the stresses in the model we should select the wood for the stronger pieces to be used where more stress resistance is needed.

I think that the material strength is related to hardness and weight. Also the hardness can vary along the length of a stringer for example.

My next move is to weigh the 36 inch long pieces and mark them while also checking their CG and mark that also.

Stresses and impact forces are lots more at the wings attachment and landng gear than at the stabilizer-elevator where the cross pieces are basically just providing thickness and spacing.

More on this later.

I had read about those failures. It's too bad that Sig hasn't remedied the problem.

The only "mod" that I've noticed, is a statement that basically says that we are on our own, if we use larger than recommended engines.

I have two smaller 4 strokes (.52 Surpass and an FS .61) that would work well in the Senior Sport. I was having too much fun with that .91 four stroke up front, though.

That's one of the reasons that I decided to build my next Kadet. I want to make sure that the wing will handle the expected stress loads. I don't think that I would be satisfied with a smaller four stroke.

I don't plan to go crazy, flying the Kadet, but it will recieve more stress than it would get if it were to be used as a trainer.

My friend keeps commenting that he is surprised the wing hasnt come off my LT-40 yet with how I fly it. I beefed it up pretty good when I built it, along with the front pin block and rear hold downs. I used 1/4" aircraft ply for both, and the spar is rigidly assembled along with ply added front and rear to accommodate the bolt down configuration.

Default Reference post # 1810

Greetings,

I have now classified all the 36 inches long wood strips.

The pictures show the results for the 1/4" x 1/4" strips.
I have also done the other cross-section sizes.
It is interesting to find that some are twice the weight of the lighter one.
The CG variation can be estimated by the fact that the pieces are 1/4" square.

Note that a 9.4 gram piece shows as 9 grams and a 9.5 piece shows as 10 grams.

I should be able to start building as I said in early December.
I will start with the wings and am designing the wings and fuselage bottom modifications to accept snap-in struts.

I am anxious to follow TomCrump planned build log but I am not planning to post in that thread.

Is registration for the Kadet Brotherhood still open? I am new to RCU (been bouncing around RCG for a while). My Kadet hasn't flown for a year or so... powered by Super Tiger .45 (just enough power). I have been flying low wing intermediates and my Big Stik this season.
I have been considering mounting a .61 or larger in the nose and helping out with the candy drops next year at our club. Maybe even offer it as a tow plane for the glider guys...

Of course the Brotherhood is still open - Kadet fans always welcome new brothers. We've got you logged, #171 is all yours, welcome to RCU & the SIG Kadet Brotherhood!!!!! Ahhhh, you must have a Kadet Sr., can't imagine any other version that would need larger than a .45 (2-cycle), although there are a fair number of guys around here that have powered Kadets with everything up to nearly tractor engine sizes (just kidding). Seriously, Kadets can do nearly anything, and there are some very VERY interesting Kadets in this group.

Here's our SIG Kadet Brotherhood, as I've got it today:[TABLE="width: 508"]

I have been considering mounting a .61 or larger in the nose and helping out with the candy drops next year at our club. Maybe even offer it as a tow plane for the glider guys...
You're right they don't need a lot of power. I built my LT-40 with the Super Tigre .40 and she flys great!

Of course, you're absolutely right - that was #1 on my mind. Way earlier there was mention of a whole series of Kadets too, some twin engine, some twin tail, some just plane DIFFERENT!! I remember a sailplane carrier too - not a tow'r, a carrier.

If anyone is interested, I've started a build thread on how I will modify the Kadet Senior kit into a Kadet Senior Sport. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/kit-...l#post11903446

If interested, I encourage you to participate, as I'm sure that you have some good ideas that can be incorporated into my build.

BigTee,
Really like that landing gear you are sporting on your LT25 STOL. Did you fabricate that?

I did...thanks and it works really well absorbing the stall landings I do a lot of with that plane. The set in the picture was all aluminum and I had a hard time holding some of the parts together. (bonding Aluminum is tough) It eventually broke so I fabricated a new one from drill rod that is easier to hold together with solder. I don't have a lot of closeups but I'm happy to take a few to give you a better idea of how I put it all together.
