Don't worry about the ARF thing. I'm sure that Dave would agree. All Kadets are welcome.

This was mine.

Thanks much for this Tom. I went ahead and installed a couple M4 washers between the top mount holes and firewall holes.

Not to worry.
A Kadet is a Kadet, is a Kadet.
Just many flavors
But not quite B&R 31 Flavors.
Mmmmm, Yum now I want some.

Michaelnel, it doesn't matter whether your Kadet's a kit or scratch-built, ARF, RTF, full-size, half-size or peanut-size - all Kadets are welcome here.

Speaking of Kadet Sport ARFs, I picked one up that has slight damage.

The wings are perfect, but the fuselage feels soft in a few areas. I'll need to give it a good inspection to see what needs to be done.

I love my Kadet Sr. !!!!!

It was my trainer back in '06, and I still have it. started out with a Saito 50, which took most of the runway to take off, and I eventually installed a '91 four-stroke OS engine. I like it a lot with the O.S. ! Here's a vid of my Kadet doing what it does best -- FLYING!

Nice vid ! You fly your Kadet Senior in much the same way that I flew mine.

Hey, I see I commented on your video six years ago. And it's still fun to watch.

Thanks guys! Glad you like the video. It has been a blast to fly. I remember first learning to fly, it seemed like that little 4-stroke 50 Saito took the Kadet across those 65 acres in a hurry! LOL! Now, with the .91, it just putters around. I used to go out to the field early in the morning, to get in a few flights before work. A lot of times, there was some fog and guys would be waiting for the fog to clear. A few times, as soon as it got above the tree line, I'd fire up the Kadet and make a few laps of the field, UNDER THE FOG! Great times.

I got to fly my Kadet Senior Sport today for the first time, on a buddybox setup with a super experienced guy at our club. He adjusted the mixture on the OS FS65V and took it off. He flew it around for a few minutes, trimmed it and pronounced it good (he has a couple kit-built Kadet Seniors modified for taildragger and they are among his favorites).

He turned control over to me and I flew it for about five minutes. What a wonderful airplane. It feels very forgiving, and it is SO BIG that it is easy to see and easy to fly. I was kind of nervous though so after about five minutes I had him take it back and he landed it. The wind was coming up and I had the jitters so I figured we'll do more next time starting earlier before the wind gets going. I am sure looking forward to my first solo, but in the meantime it's great flying with such an old pro on the master transmitter (and he loves training students).

Anyway, I am delighted!

Outstanding Michael, you're doing it perfectly - congratulations on the straight thinking and first flight. You won't believe how much fun you can have with such a good plane. You're gonna be just fine.

Welcome to the wonderful addiction of Kadets, and RC in general!!

Thanks guys.

Although I am new to RC flying (just two months) I think the fact that I was a private pilot and majored in aeronautical engineering in college 35 years ago is helpful to me. I do have an understanding as to what's going on up there with the aircraft. I have the bug bad... since getting into the hobby 2 months ago I already have all these aircraft:

1) E-flite Apprentice
2) Parkzone T-28
3) E-flite P51D Mustang
4) Parkzone Sukhoi MM-29
5) Great Planes Big Stick 60
6) Great Planes WACO YMF 5D
7) SIG Kadet Senior Sport
8) E-Flite Carbon Z Cub
9) GWS Slow Stick

The only ones of those that I have actually soloed are the Apprentice and the T28. I just went nuts there for a while.

But the guy who is instructing me asked that I do not try to fly a bunch of airplanes yet, concentrate on the Kadet when I am at the club field where they fly mostly internal combustion engine planes, and the Apprentice when flying at the fairgrounds parking lot where everyone only flies electrics. I intend to follow his advice, and sample the others only after becoming competent with the Kadet.

Default Some more work on my slow build.

I think most of us have "been there done that."

My build is still going slow, I added some wood to my landing gear, they appeared "too leggy" to me. The fared the LE cuff in, and added some stringers to the fuse.
I didn't like the way the LE of the fin and stab where so I made some sanders from playing cards. There is a tool you can buy for this, but I chose to go to the Dollar Store and get two deck of cards and make my own, now the LEs are round.
I started silking and doping the plane, I've ripped it off the elevator and stab, then redid them, it's a slow learning process.

That's a nice looking plane Rich. Gonna be a shame to cover all that beautiful framing.

Geez, looking at everybody building stick planes, I wanna go do one myself. Problem is, my other half would probably use those sticks to crucify me right now.

Thanks guys.

What is the best way to cover the fuse using silk? Do you take one large piece of silk and only have one seem, or do you cover it in four pieces, i.e. top, bottom, sides?

Great question with even better timing! I'm about to start on my Stratus and the same question was about to come up there too.

I would cover the bottom first, then the sides, then the top last. Same with wing and tail surfaces, That way all the overlaps are down, or under. But, that's just my approach, your approach may be different.

Sincerely, Richard

Thats how the Cub is covered, except the top is actually done in 2 pieces because of the fairing on the fin. Its one piece up the fin on both sides.

Thought I'd put the LT-40 bones together to have a look-see. Not too bad. Looks like an airplane. It just needs to fly like an airplane. Building the wing I forgot to drill the rib holes for the servo wiring. I had to make me a little tool to make the holes. Then I added the wing tube conduit for the wires. i still have more work to do on the fuselage, ailerons for the wing, lots of sanding n filling and I should be close to covering. I'm waiting on a Tower order for the servos I need. So far, total weight with rudder and elevator is 2lb. 8oz.

I haven't made a decision on the engine for the plane. I was wondering would a 10cc gas engine be too much for this plane? My original plan was to use an OS .55AX that I have. Any recommendations on engine size is appreciated.

This plane will be a trainer getting me back into flying again.
