That sounds like what we have here. There is a designated area away from the water we can still use but the word is a few fliers were given citations for float flying less than a 1/2 mile away in the area we have always used.

I wonder if Tony Stillman at the AMA could shed some light on your situation or provide some assistance. He's been writing lately about relationships with national parks, so maybe they've got some work going on that could be of assistance to you guys. Might be worth dropping him an email and telling him your dilemma.

I will give him a shout and see if there are any efforts already in motion. This being a National situation I would imagine there are few chances for a local resolution but can't hurt!!

New to the Brotherhood but the question was asked about installing an Evolution 10cc engine in the Kadet so here you go. If you need help let me know. I had to make a few modifications to get everything to fit in the small area but it can be done.

Very nice and clean installation. Just one question: will the carb on the Evolution gasser allow the tank to be placed more rearward, like at the CG? Thanks.

I don't see why not. As long as you keep the tank at the right height in line with the carb. Why do you need to move it that far back though?

I see what your getting at. I had a heck of a time trying decide where to mount the Ignition but being that the Spark wire is only so long I ended up mounting it under the fuel tank. That way it still gave me enough space between the module and the receiver to avoid any noise from the cdi.
The amount of CG shift will be so slight that you won't notice it in flight having the tank up front but I'm no expert.
I only started converting all my planes over to Gas this year so it's a whole new ball game to me. So many more items to install and limited space.
Please keep me updated with what your doing I'm sure there are a few other ways I could have done things.

I have a couple gas engines, and as long as there is no need for a pressure line from the muffler to the tank, like the DLE and Saito engines, the tank position can be anywhere in the plane, and it can be higher without flooding as the carbs have a "bowl" to store the fuel like you see in a car carb, only its very small, holds about 2 drops out of an eyedropper. There are flaps to keep the fuel from escaping into the engine when not running and they open with the pulses from the crankcase. This is how the fuel gets drawn from the tank. The only downside of the tank being back as CG is priming the fuel lines.

Randy, thanks for the pictures on your gas engine install. I have decided to just go with the OS glow engine. I have my eye on the new OS 10cc gas glow engine which will be available end of May. I will have to build an airplane around that engine. Your pictures will help. Thanks again.

Well, here's a new one for all you Kadet lovers. I just visited my Uncle Bobbie in Dayton, Ohio, and flew a couple of his 60 RC airplanes at the Wingmasters field where I learned to fly 40 years ago. Seems like newbies keep joining the club, crashing, and giving the left over parts to Bob, who being an old-fashioned builder with 70 years building experience, takes them home and rebuilds them…
The plane of interest is a plain old Sig Senior Kadet. Nothing special, no ailerons or flaps, and the original 80" span. Only change was the plane had 13 motors.
OK, so Bob has a good sense of humor, and had this old Kadet that he wanted to do something different with. Bob has also worked part time at his local hobby shop, Radical RC, for years, so I guess he had access to some extra parts he could play with.
Anyway, seeing is believing, so here are a few photos. Sorry, I know nothing about electric planes, flying only 60-1.60 size glo myself, so can't answer any questions. Only thing I know is he has two 5000 batteries hooked together, and enough wires to sink a sub.
Yes, 13 props spinning make a lot of noise!
Plane weighs 11 pounds, but you would never know it. Flies just like any other Kadet - well, you can tell that it flies a bit heavier than my 7.5 pound 90 inch Kadet, but it carries the extra weight with no problem.
Thought you all might enjoy these photos. Uncle Bobbie is 80 years old, and has never had a computer, so he does not get online, unless someone shows him something on the store computer while he is at the hobby shop. I'll send him a letter with a link to this post, so he can see it.
By the way, Uncle Bobbie took me out to the flying field when I was 6 years old, to watch him fly his RC airplane; and that was 62 years ago. Flying RC can be a life-long hobby.

Believe it or not, NASA is working on a similar concept for full sized, man-carrying electric planes. It has a lot of theoretical advantages over traditional designs. Uncle Bobbie is on the cutting edge of modern aircraft design! Who would have guessed?

So, Sunday evening I decided it was way past time for me to take the Seniorita to the field. I hadn't been out flying since sometime in mid Feb. To make a sad story short, I didn't check the clamps on the spare tire in the back of the Blazer. At the first stop sign 60 pounds of tire rolled loose and found it's way on top of the Seniorita's right wing. Top spars broken and 2 ribs cracked. All patched up now, but it's a patch and I will always know it. Now I have to wait for an other one of our rare nice days to test it.
