Nice work ! There's nothing like a painted model.

Absolutely Ron, glad to see another Kadet brother checking in. Gotta say I like your colors and layout - definitely looking good. You picked one of the most popular Kadet versions too. There just might be more LT25's out there flying than any other version. Nicely done.

SO!!!!!! Welcome to the SIG Kadet Brotherhood, got #188 all set for you.

And once again, here's the SIG Kadet Brotherhood, as I've got it today:

I am wondering what happened to the website with all the Sig plane kit history which was at:
http://www.wanderings-ds.com/whs/sig-history-1.html
Also just came across this curious alternative retailer of Sig products:

PiperRon what are those two screens on the bottom of the wing holding? Just curious. Great looking color scheme I really like it!

Hey Rod! Yeah, that was my website - closed it a year ago and it finally went totally down back in May. I've still got ALL the pages of the website on my computer (all 1700+ of them) and I'm looking for a venue to re-establish the SIG history pages. Once I find a decent place to put them, all will be good again.

Yeah, I came across the sigplanes site some time ago too. Not sure about the true accuracy of this but my impression is that it's kinda like a "support group" in that they are simply a 2nd outlet for SIG products. If you check their prices, they're identical to the SIG catalog or website.

Anyway, as far as the SIG history goes, if anyone has any ideas of how I can get those pages back on the web WITHOUT costing me over $150/year website fees, I'd be eternally grateful.

Mike.... If you are talking about the 2 "lightening bolt" decals, that's just what they are...decals. Not sure what you mean by saying "screens." Let me know if I answered your question or not.

I am concerned about weight. Being my first build I didn't "skimp" on anything. The plane is going to weigh just under 7 pounds and tail heavy.!!! Will the wing hold it in flight with a 46 power electric motor.??

I'm bolting the wing on and Itook dihedral out of the wing. I want it to perform like a Decathalon. That's my hope.

Please feel free to comment on the weight and what I should expect in terms of flight characteristics.

I think he's referring to what I think are the aileron servos in the wings, just inside those decals.

Removing dihedral is no problem with a Kadet. You'll be happy with her that way. My own Mk-II has just 1" lift on 1 wingtip and I love it.

Weight is hardly ever a concern with Kadets (ANY Kadets), but balance MUST be at least in the proper neighborhood - within 1/4" or so of the plans location, for the first few flights. Once you've got an idea of how she performs you can play with balance an awful lot and she'll still fly.

I think Mike was referring to the screws holding the little rectangular plates on the underside of the wing. I thought maybe they were for struts? Just a SWAG.

Sincerely, Richard

EDIT: Oh, that's what they are, the aileron servos?

Well if your putting a power 46 on a power 25 plane, and the supporting pack, its going to be heavy in flight. It will fly OK, but it wont be as nimble as it could be. My 1/5th Cub weighs less than that and its a large plane with a Saito 100 on the nose. I have an LT-25 on the board that my daughter and I are building. Going to built it per plans except going to bolt the wing on like I did on my LT-40. Power will be an Eflite power 25 with 3S 3300 pack. I always build as light as possible, I found that overbuilding just adds unnecessary weight, when you crack it up it busts just as bad and is harder to repair. If I beef up anything it is usually stress points only, like the sheer webs between spars, wing joiner locations, firewalls, and servo mounts.

I modified my LT-40 by reducing dihedral and bolting it down, along with making it a tail dragger, and it flies great with an OS 52, and no additional dead weight to balance it. It has had its fair share of wrecks, busted the right wing leading edge and some ribs twice, left wing leading edge once, and cracked the fuse in half once, but the repairs took me less than a couple hours each time and other than a few patches on the wings, you can't tell it was wrecked several times. I torture this plane, flip it full power in a very tight loop, tumble it, full power dives and pull outs, outside loops, rolls, and snap rolls, and it takes it. Other than the wing bolt down mod, the rest is built exact as the kit.

If there was any plane I wish I could build lighter and that the 4* 120, that thing is a flying brick, and uses all the power the DLE 20 can dish out. I even shortened the wing by a bay each side and its still a heavy bugger. It would probably fly better with a 30 on its nose.

Thank you Ken.!! Just what I wanted to hear. I've flown enough to know how important CG is. I like my planes slightly nose heavy. I will balance the LT-25 as by the book.

And yes, I used a servo for each aileron.

For comparison, here are the specs for the GP Avistar trainer:
GPMA1605 — RTF
Wingspan:
62.5 in (1590 mm)
Wing Area: 672 in² (43.3 dm²)
Weight: 6.5 lb (2950 g)
Wing Loading: 22 oz/ft² (67 g/dm²)
Length: 55 in (1395 mm)

They are very similar to what you have, so your plane should fly fine. Maybe not like a Decathalon, however. As Skylark-flier said, it is very important to locate the CG per the original specifications. To do that, you may have to add nose weight if, as you say, it is tail heavy. Try to move batteries etc, forward to reduce the dead weight you have to add to the nose. Do not try to fly the plane tail heavy.

Good luck.

Thanks for your comments. It all makes sense to me. I wanted the build to weigh 6lbs. but I missed that mark. With my next build, whatever it may be, I'll cover it with ultracote or monocote. I'm not rigged to do that at this time.

I am noticing the pitfalls of having a sheeted, painted plane. It dings easily and I have even cracked the balsa by simply handling the plane. I have much to learn but I love building and the repairs are fun too. Balsa or foam.

Excellent reply spaceworm. The specs on the Avistar are very close to what I will have. I knew there must be planes out there with a 63" span that weigh in the 6 to 8 pound range. If I need to add nose weight, I will. Flying a tail heavy plane can get ugly fast. Been there, done that. Never again.!!... I'll add the weight.

Thanks Dave I figured you had the numbers on hand.
I have actually only laid hands on or seen the SR and Jr. 3 of the latter. My Sr is going 20 or 25 years old now. Wore the engine plum out (Saito .65).
The Lt 25 sounds like it should be a hoot with a 40 or 46 up front.
But I will admit what find the most fun is see how little power I can make circuits around the field at a level attitude, including the turns. Fly right at the ragged edge of stalling.
Get great fuel mileage that way too.
But if I want to get my freak on, TAIL WIND LANDINGS strong tail wind.

I need a really long runway if I land the LT-40 with a tail wind! LOL Even with a head wind it takes a bit to slow down once it touches. My Cub OTOH, that bugger just does not want to stop flying! I touch down, and give a touch of up to bring the tail down and its airborne again. I finally got a little thing going of wagging its tail once the mains are down, and that slows it enough to drop the tail. I love all my SIG planes, and have 5 of them I carry around in my truck.

Ron, I was talking about the two screws on the bottom side of the wings. Stupid auto correct!

Heavy buggers can usually use more wing, not less!

That was my thinking, too. The clipped wing made thing worse by increasing the wing loading.

Skylark-flier, You may want to check this site out for a place to make a page for the Sig history.

Not the 4*, it has tons of lift and floats forever, it just doesnt do vertical as well as it could with the DLE20 on it, thats where its weight plays a factor. A 30cc will pull it up with authority. Decreasing the wing span increased its roll rate, so it does rolls very quickly, it loops inside and outside well, but peters out quickly going straight up. In fact there is so much lift I turned the ailerons into spoilerons to reduce lift so I can land it easier.

Hey Dave, It's good to know that the SIG history is hiding on your computer and looking for a new web site. Sorry I can't suggest a new cheap site other than a couple places to start looking.

OK guys, took the advise and I've been playing with 6 different free-hosters. Settled on Jimdo because they've got the easiest to replicate format, at least for now.

Present address to see it is: (your usual 3 w's) wanderings-ds.jimdo.com which will put you on the first page, which also happens to be the control-line page. That one's done (for now) and I'm working on free-flight right now. The rest will come as I get them loaded.

Nice to have them all back on-line. Tks.

Just checked it out looks good Dave! I did see only the C/L and Free Flight information has been entered so far. I hope that is the case!

Yup! Roughly half way through the FF page - it takes quite awhile to load each pic & get the text in because of the way the template (which you've GOT to use) is designed - one element at a time.

If I can figure out just how it's done (which I'm sure I'll be able to do) I'm going to put a text field toward the top of the page with the date of last update. If the page hasn't got the field, it's done. Will see just how this'll work out.
