Default Finally Finished the Piper Cub....

Well, I have posted my progress on this build a few different times over the course of the last 3 years. It somehow survived two moves to different areas of the state without meeting its demise. I honestly had my doubts that I would ever finish this model. It had once again found a home hanging on the wall of my garage collecting dust and getting knocked around and beat up. I stopped to take a closer look at it last week and after seeing the amount of dust and the damage that it had recieved hanging in my garage I couldnt take it any longer. I felt sorrow for the poor unfinished plane and pulled it down from its resting place and set up shop in my wifes craft room to see if I could bring it back to life. Once I got started, I couldn't stop. I cleaned it up, repaired the broken and damaged areas in the balsa airframe, patched the holes in the wing covering, finished covering the fuselage, installed the windows, installed the switch and charge jack, etc.

It's not a showstopper with all of the scale details like some of you guys on here can build but, considering this is only my second attemp at building a Kit I am content with the end result. I am confident that it is built straight and strong and will make a good flyer. I'm going to hold off for Spring before seeing if this holds true.

Anyhow, here are a few shots I took yesterday in the front yard.

Looks like you did a pretty good job to me on the build. I am currently working on a goldberg cub. Plan to put it on floats when I get it done.

Wow, looks great! Which kit is it, and what power?
I like all the details, like the engine with cooling scoops and rubber around the windshield. Well done!

This was a Great Planes .60 Size Kit, and I opted to build the smaller wing and clipped it down per Blueprint. I put a (New) out of the box old school O.S. .60 Max in the nose. The engine details are from a Sig. Mfg. 1/5 scale Cub. The ABS plastic dummy engine that came with the Great Planes Kit ended up being a little too tricky for me and I messed it up. I wanted the dummy engine, so I ordered one from Sig. Mfg. to replace it. It was much easier to work with and I was able to get it done.

Here are a few in progress stick pictures...

That looks outstanding and the engines really set it off. I couldn't guess what kit it was but the cowl reminded me of a SIG. Last one I built was the CG Cub and the owner bought the FGS glass cowl and the engine was molded in, that also gave it a better look too. You did a great job, extended but great. Thanks for sharing.

No snow here in Michigan either. Blew away with the 50 mph winds.  The warm temps this weekend mighta had something to do with it, too.

Those pictures were taken Sunday afternoon. Feb. 10th 2013. The temps were in the low 50's here in Central KY on Sunday. Had it not been for the high winds, flying certainly could have been a possiblity. We dont really have to deal with much snow here. We might have gotten a total of 3 to 4 inches at my house all winter. My Dad is about 200 miles away in West Virginia and while he is battling a foot a snow and freezing temps I can be out the yard working on the landsaping. I enjoy being somewhere where you get a change of seasons, but I dont miss being buried in the snow!

Hope your Spring makes an early appearance this year. Happy Flying.
