Great Planes Cherokee 40
Hi there, I was looking on my local CL. And found a Great Planes Cherokee 40 kit from the 90's for $50 box and all is there... Question is, Do you guys feel that is a good deal for this kit and I'm really anxious to give it a try at building my first.. I have built a couple Guillows model Cesna's that are pretty detailed and really a pain because there only 2' wingspans, So i'm pretty sure I could build this kit. Just don't wanna get it if it's not a worthy price and a good plane when finished Please let me know what you think......Depending on how the answers I get go, This question thread may turn into the Building thread of this plane..
Thanks
joe

jleblanc,
If this Cherokee 40 has a wingspan of 48" or more and if the kitincludes hardware, engine cowl, all the wood, the full model size drawings and building instruction manual then you have a good bargain.
Looking forward to follow your building log.

The box says it has a 60" wing span, Here's a picture of the box...Gonna prob go pick it up tonight or tomorrow.. lol...I can't figure out how to post the picture of it... When I click add image it says enter URL..lol...can't figure this out.. lol...I'll keep trying to get the picture of it posted..
But anyways it's an unopened kit, says prebent landing gear, .35- .40 engine.. 4-5 channel 630sq in wing area.
Looks like a blast to build!

Heck of a price for any .40 size kit! Everyone that has hadone say's it's a great flying plane.
I have just finished building this plane.I still need to cover it yet. I used a OS 61 FS (four stroke) and I had to move the firewall back one inch to make it fit. I also putservos in the wings for the aileronsand didn't use the bellcrank setup. I also put the flaps on.

The Cherokee 40 really is a great flying plane and it should be a fun build. Stick with the color scheme it really looks good in red. I have the ARF and it always gets attention at the field, I put a Magnum .46 in it and it handles it well.
$50.00 is a steel.

Hi Fellows: Boy what a great opportunity for building such a great model. I salvaged one that a club member crashed some years ago, and had to adapt another wing in order to complete the rebuild. For multiple reasons, it has not been flight tested with a TT .42 for power. Do hope you keep us updated on the construction.

Thanx, Zor. It's missing the upper cowl, an easy fix. Big, pretty light yet rigid. No damage, just a bit dirty. The real steal was a NIB Jim Kirkland Nutcracker by Spy Glas for $15. The guy was moving and going to toss them.

I am looking forward to a "build (completion) log" with lots of pictures if at all possible.
