I always use Lepage carpenter glue and i like to wipe excess glue when possible this is why you dpnt see much glue residue.

RE: AMR-RC GIANT RV-8 BUILDING
I always use Lepage carpenter glue. I guess it is relatively similar to Titebond glue. it get fully dry in 45 minutes but after 15-20 minutes, it is solid enough to continue working. I dont like using CA since it is quite toxic and my building area is not ventilated sufficiently for that type of glue. Also, carpenter glue leaves me with enough time to make some little adjustment.
Since the last post, i made good progress on the build. I almost finish the basic fuselage structure but i will wait until the stabs and the wings are build before sheeting. I have made the hatch and i found somme little thing to modify in order to make it easier to build.
Here are some pics of the build so far. Next step, i will make a wing building jig before proceeding with the wings assembly.
-I also show how i splice my long balsa sticks. I had to use a plate to make F4A flat because it is made of .115 liteply.
-I used 1/16 shim at front and rear of the hatch to allow sufficient clearance. This will be adjusted better with 1/16 balsa later.

RE: AMR-RC GIANT RV-8 BUILDING
Here are some more pictures of the fuselage and the hatch. the rear bottom part of the fuselage is not completed because after discussing with Kevin, we agreed to make some modifications to the lower former. this will not affect the build since i will remove the previous formers and put the new ones in place. These are relatively major changes but it is worthwhile to do it now because it is easy to do. the production kits will have the modified formers. It will help fit the rear fuselage with the wing area shape as it is on the real plane.
The hatch is a big piece of hardware!

Kevin,
Sorry I missed you at Toledo, I hung around the Sig booth until 1:15 then headed out for the 200 mile trip home.

RE: AMR-RC GIANT RV-8 BUILDING
it has been a while but i did some good progress on the RV-8. The fuselage structure is completed but not sheeted. I work with Kevin to improve some area and now, it is dix. I had to modify some parts for easier assembly and to add a couples to make the hatch easier to sheet. So far the build is going pretty well for a prototype.

RE: AMR-RC GIANT RV-8 BUILDING
This week, i did the wing jig design and cut it on AMR-RC laser CNC. I assemble the jig on my table. The wing is 48'' long so i had to splice the spar for about 4 inches to have it long enough to fit in the jig spar locating slots at each ends of the jig. The jig is carefully build and squared. I use an aluminium L shaped straight edge to align the jig first. When the jig is completed, it is screwed to the table. The wing assemble easily and the jig did its work perfectly.
Here are some pictures.

Once the jig is ready on table, i put the lower main spar and the lower rear spar into the spots designed to locate the assembly axially.

Here is the wing out of the big. Before removing the wing from the jig, i glued most of the webbings. Now i will complete the 1/4 balsa stringers under the wing and finish the installation of the remaining webbings, the wing tube and other parts required to complete it. Next wil be the assembly of the right ring.

I have completed the structure of both wings and they are quite light at 2 pounds 4 onces each. with the sheeting and twith and flaps and ailerons, let's say another pound and a half maximum. This is good to me!

Today, i put th wings on the fuselage for test fit. CAD design is definitively a good thing. Evrything match as per design. The only little problem is the tube being a bit thight on one side but it is not bad.

RE: AMR-RC GIANT RV-8 BUILDING
Hello all,
I had to postpone this build for some time due to major work to be done on my house. Now it is flying time but i should be back on it end of august because i have to reinstall my building area too.
I still have to build the control surfaces, redesign and make the cowling. the wing tip sould be easy to do and the canopy too. Still a lot of work to do.
Sorry for the delay
