Thanks Ron, looks like the heads will stick out about 3/4" (then the plugs/caps), that would be ok i guess, not the most scale, but ok.

Hey Bedford, I happen to have the guy that sell props at my field on speed dial! That twin calls for a 20/10, I'm wondering if I could get away with a 19/10. Maybe some gear mods like taller tires? Just guessing of course, likely wrong as I haven't even seen the kit yet.

Hey Jim
I run an 18-8 on mine and have broken it several times on a hard landing. The gear is a weak spot on the model, they seem to be a little soft. Some guys are splicing a music wire strut on the inside of the aluminum gear to stiffen them up. You might have trouble with a longer prop.

Hey guys! I need some help... I have started this build and am going through the inventory and plan. I am finding one 1/4 x3/8 x 44 piece which by process of elimination must be the trailing edge Jig...
problem is... I don't see how this puts in 3 degrees of washout. as close as I can measure there is only about 1 mm difference in thickness from one side to the other.... Can someone elaborate on what I am missing here?

Mathew, i am getting ready to build a dynaflite super decathlon. Have followd your post. Would like to see pics of your fusealoge build when you get that far.
Having read all the post i could fine on the decathlon i am amazed at all the different engines used. Some
with nose weight & some without. Is it he wood density that makes one guy use nose weight & the other not

Unfortunately this plane has already seen the air.. and the ground... and a garbage bag. The battery somehow came out of a retainer clip and disconnected in mid flight.... not much more to say there...
For engines, the plane would knife edge loop with an OS GT33 in it, The video you point to is a much bigger decathlon ( RC pilot, not dynaflite ) than the kit you are getting ready to build, so don't put a 70cc engine in it!!

Dear Frankie,
I share your feelings towards building and the way people relate to the hobby today. I am sorry that this ARF generation will never be able to understand what buiding your own plane is. Also, the joy of building something is an experience that can not be passed on.

sorry to hear about the demise of your plane. Some days the airplane gods just have it out for us.
I bought a dynaflite SD off a friend a couple years ago and just dug it out for a serious look. A few things don't add up. It shows 3.5 deg. neg. incidence for the stab. This would make it want to raise the nose. - 5 deg. neg. incidence in the engine. This would want to pull the nose back down. - 2 deg. neg. incidence in the wing. This would also tend to pull the nose down. Did anyone else pick up on this? I have built a blue million planes and never ran into this much incidence contradiction. I tent to build everything straight, and have yet to run into a plane that requires this much crooked building. As a matter of fact, I bought a GP Fokker DR-1 ARF, put it together as was and it was a major handful. Back at the shop, I checked it out and it had 4 deg. positive in the top wing - 6 deg. neg. in the bottom wing - 6 deg. neg. in the engine and 4 deg. rt. also in the engine. I worked on it and set everything at 0 and it flies like a dream. Has anyone built a SD straight to see how it flies and does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Mine is getting close. Found a great composite main gear that is much stronger, reading many complaints of gear included with kit is not up to the task. Replaced that heavy all metal tailwheel assembly with a nice carbon fiber one that is 1/3 the weight. Redesigned area in front of cabin to firewall with three removable levels. Put 3 battery packs (receiver, on board glow, and batts for full set of nav lights) on one level, fuel tank on another, and throttle servo on lowest level. Also put rudder & elevator (2) servos forward of CG, as I hate adding lead to balance tailheavy plane. It is balancing now with no lead & Saito 1.80 up front.

I to am starting my dynaflite decathlon in march. Have followed the post so far. Finally settled on a dle 35ra engine & bought it.
Where did you get the fiberglass tail whell assy from? I would like to see it & get one also

Here is tailwheel assmbly trainermaster. It came complete as you see it out of the package, including wheel & tiller. A fraction of the weight from the heavy metal one included with the kit. I got it from Hobbyking for less than $10. The Saito 1.80 up front weighs only 31 oz. That is the reason for the lightweight tailwheel & the mods I did to get batteries & throttle servo right behind the firewall. Also have the 2 elevator & 1 rudder servo up in the cabin, forward of the CG. It took longer to build than stock, but now I have a really light plane WITH NO LEAD (dead weight) perfectly balanced...
I have included a link for Tetherite composite landing gear.. I fly out of the pasture behind my house so I got the 160 size (a bit larger than stock). They fit the fuse perfectly. Also got some Du-Bro 5 inch air filled tires so it looks like a tundra plane, for my not so perfectly smooth runway. Read too many times that if you don't make a fluffy smooth landing EVERY time, the gear bends out of shape. I decided to spend a few bucks, then added a bit more ply to mounting area, and be done with it.
