Sig Spacewalker II 1/4 scale

There really not THAT bad, like I said just time consuming. Like I also said, I have my reservations for doing them on the upcoming GS build. Just for the time alone. But who knows, they do look mighty sharp.

Flyer the 182 would require alot of time not to mention the several thousand aluminum rivets, scale vinyl would look good on it though, the RYAN deserves aluminum rivets, just my opinion. Weather is going to produce some sun and I may have some out side pictures that will better show the real color of it, Wednesday evening it goes to our club meeting with me, should have some fun with it there.

Got some odds and ends done and took it outside for final pictures, it sparkles like a jewel and the color looks alot better than under shop lights. My wife said it's beautiful and I agree, I'm glad I went with those colors, plane looks very rich with them. After tomorrows meeting the engine will be pulled and the break in will start, I did resurface the reed box and it needed it, will do the same to my other 2 gassers and any others I end up with, should be done to them all, sure can't hurt.

Stunning Leroy
You will certainly be the talk of the club for awhile.
Since she thinks it's beautiful, does that mean you get to keep it in the living room ?
I know, but when the wife says stuff like that about your plane, you got 2 gems.
Again, Wow. Fabulous craftsmanship and Fabulous paint scheme.

I think it would look good hanging over the dinning room table but on the other hand my wonderfull wife may think other wise
I expect the club will recieve it well, none of them has seen it finished, they do want me to put on a Solartex clinic after they found out I used it, great bunch of guys to fly and BS with.
I do wonder how this bird would look as a BIP with a Flite Metal fuselage, I'm kicking that thought around, haven't built a BIP yet.

Well done Leroy...I love all the photos, but the 5th shot is a great angle showing off your rivet work! BRAVO!!!! Your buds at the club will be drooling over it I'm sure.
BTW, what spinner did you use? I still haven't bought a spinner for mine.

Yes Jim the paint does highlite the rivets and stitches real well,
Thanks Bob, I agree, wife too.
Vincent the spinner is a Dave Brown parabolic not the round nose one, the hub of the Zoar is quite large for the cuts in it and I had to inlarge them and rebalance it, I then wet sanded it with 2000 grit and polished it, it had a nice finish to start with. I weighed it 3 times on a bath scale and all 3 times it came out at 14 lbs and probably high ounces (didn't show oz.) and I suspect by the time I get the 2 6V. batteries, fuel tank and ignition with one more servo in it it's going to be right around 17 lbs, I'm pleased with that. I haven't balanced it yet, just the lateral.
Tony that plane is going to look good no matter where it sets, I already know that and I like the way the color changes in different light conditions.
Flyer don't forget this plane has an 84" wing and a stance that leaves the coffee table out of places to put it, Those screws are SS 1-72 x 3/16", head is phillips at 1/8" diameter, I bought 185 at just over $4.00 at Fasteners, they do dress up the tips nicely.
I think I have included all the things I have done to this plane except show it in the air, I will do that as soon as I get her there, I only have the pilot and instrument pannel to finish and break in the engine and she will be ready to go.
I would like to thank all who stuck with me on the build and the many nice comments from all of you, great having company when doing something like this. What I hoped to accomplish was showing what can be done to some of these plane kits as well as picking up some great ideas along the way, The SW is a great plane to alter and I enjoyed doing it alot so thanks again to all of you. "Whos next ?". Well Kevin has a good one going so lets support him.

Well gee, I've been away for awhile, at least not visiting the threads too much, and look at what has happened. Good golly Leroy, the is one B-E-A-Utiful bird!!! Very, very nice indeed! Congratulations on a great build! WOW! Now I can't wait to see it in the air.

Come one guys, don't need any tears messing up my paint job besides you have yours to drool all over. Really, thanks for the very nice comments. Engine break in stand is about ready to fire up this engine, as soon as a couple of gallons have been ran through it I will get it back in the plane and wait for some good weather to fly it, won't be long. I will try the video thing again, I have a tripod now and at the very worst I will get some airborn shots to post.

The DLE35RA is a good running engine Leroy, you won't have any problems with it. I'm glad that you pulled off the reed block and re-sealed it. This will ensure that you won't have the tuning problems many have experienced after a short period of run time. I also suggest scrapping the stock spark plug and installing a NGK CM-6 plug instead.
After I tuned my engine and was happy with the idle and transition, I flew her and got the break-in process started in the air. I like the air flow that you get while flying that you don't get on the ground. (It helps keep the head temp down.) You will notice a lot of black coming out of the exhaust getting on your plane during the break-in period, this is normal so don't be concerned with it. Soon as the rings get seated this will disappear...you will also see the RPM's rise on the top end as she breaks in.
Good luck with your maiden Leroy, have fun flying it..you have created a one off masterpiece.

Hi Leroy, with those rivets, did you have any issues with static electricity? That's my biggest enemy here. Well, my only enemy. I'm wondering if it's the material I'm using for a tray to scoop them off. I think sliding the knife tip along the rubber is doing it. What were you using as a serving tray? They literally run away from the knife. If it didn't frustrate me so bad I would be laughing my butt off.just curious if you encountered this.

Steve G. is there any way to reduce your signature as it covers over your posts. Agree on the break in, the engine should not be broken in on the ground unless it is attached to an anti vibration mount or the plane itself. You could damage the engine if mounted to a hard mount. Tune it and then fly it is the best way.
