It's airplanes like your SW and Ace's Pitts that I love to see. They are as individual as their builders and I mean that as a complement all kidding aside. It's why I am build what I am building. Granted the Cub and the 182 are pretty common but I am individualizing them with their schemes and markings. The Ryans and the Swift are much more rare and as such are very original when they hit the field. The Ryans because only 15 were ever built of the full scale airplane, the airbrake between the main gear, and the sharp taper of the wings. The Swift's original cowling has that big grinning magnesium grill which mine airplane will have. The grill is loss on a lot full size airplanes due to damage or a change in ownership on the part of the manufacturing rights.

Leroy, Bravo on the awards. Richly deserved. From the looks of things competition was stiff.

What a beautiful landscape to fly around from, with the mountains in the background.

The Mrs. sounds to be priceless. Only love gives like that.
Great planes, Great Gal. Great Guy. (not necessarily in that order )

Hi guys! I'm finally starting the SW but am stumped on what to do here.
Step 3 says "Use scrap pieces of 1/16" balsa to join four W-3A sub-ribs to four W-3 wing ribs"
I don't understand what to do with the 1/16 balsa. Help please!

Drube, check the picture more closely it shows the scrap pieces glued in on the top right of the picture. If I remember these are just spacers for the aileron to be cut out later.

Good luck, Roger

I'm thinking the same thing, Roger.

I was going through the box and noticed two sheets of parts that have not been di cut or laser cut. Is this correct? Do I need to cut them out myself with a scroll saw? I would think that because this is a kit it should be cut already.

Thanks

It's their idea that they are saving you money on the kit price by having you do some of the work,, they are so thoughtful.

The parts are too thick to be die cut cleanly. It only takes a few minutes to cut the parts with a band saw.

The instructions tell you how much to cut. I believe they want you to leave the black outline.

Alan, by cutting them out yourself you can better control the size of the parts, so it's not a bad thing. When you cut them out, cut outside of the black lines then sand to the black lines leaving the lines intact.

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure if Sig forgot to cut them or not. I'm still working on the wings and when it's time i'll use my scroll saw to cut them out. I'll make sure to stay out side the lines, thanks for the tip!

Looks like a kit manufactured BLC. (Before Laser Cutting) Trust me you would rather have to cut them out yourself than have die crushed balsa!

VJ, Leroy, where did you get the Cub landing gear? Do you have a link?

Sorry for the dumb question. Does the bottom of the wing get cap strips like the top?

Yes Alan,

They do. Go to page 9 and check out the photos and you can see the cap strips. Some are not yet placed and some are missing due to sheeting that will be installed.

I'm building the AFT fuse main frame and i'm stuck. On the plans the spruce top longeron shows a "splice" just before where the stab goes, but the manual doesn't say anything about it. Not that I can see. What do I do? See pic.

There is a description on the plans of why the splice, see pic, follow the plans.

Thanks Robert, So I do have to splice to get that angle. Sounds easy enough.

Will a 5 meter roll of Solartex be enough to cover the plane?

5 meters will leave you short drube, it will do the wings and tail parts and leave very little, get two 5 meter rolls and what you don't use can be used for something else later.
