slow flying fun/ what KIT to build
Ok so im ashamed of myself, ive been flying and learning on a FunCub, and love the slow speed of it,
I love the flaps, and flying as slow as i can doing touch and goes,
slow gentle flights, e beat the you know what out of it,
and just love flying slow
so
im looking for a kit to build,
im thinking of
1/5 sig cub modified to have flaps
topflight 182 cessna
Balsa USA Phaeton II
Team Dusters air tractor
i do know i like flying slow and low
so asking for opinions here on a good kit to build next
as im just finishing up a Proctor Bipe and need another build
did i mention i like flying slow? and low?
thank you
john

How about a Sig Astro Hog http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xvk3RsHe_c? Or maybe a Sig Senior Kadet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HixQ1fLYgQs ?

I agree, look for a plane with a light wing loading, like the Butterfly and the Kadet Senior and Seniorita. I believe the Kadets are around 12 oz/sq foot wing loading. Low and slow is fun!

Scale? I would go with a cub. Or bash a Kadet into something that looks more Scale. Maybe look at Balsa USA for one of their WW1 bipes. Like the Sopwith pup. t will fly slow, and is the best of all of them on the ground.
Here is a pic of my just finished triuplane. Although I would not recommend this plane for what you are looking for.

Ive been looking at the 1/4 Nieuport 28 but ive read the WW1 planes drop like a rock when you reduce speed, as they have little glide
i almost pilled the trigger on it today, but i keep looking at the cessna and 1/5 cub,
still trying to find info on the airtractor and the Pawnee from folks,
my fun at the field so far with my FunCub is flying low, and slow doing touch and goes, trying to see just hos slow i can fly it in for a landing,
kinda like a bush pilot, thats where i get my kicks, seeing the plane just hover in front of me when theres a nice breeze, then dropping it down for a 2 foot roll out landing
hence my wanting a nice slow flyer BUT a kit this time as i LOVE building,
thanks all for all your input please dont give up on me,
john

This looks like a nice kit http://www.espritmodel.com/estar-fi-156-storch-kit.aspx
A little small for my taste, too small for gas or glow to fit.
Pity it's not double the size, they would sell like hot cakes.

Spacewalker is a foam & glass copy of the SIG 1/4 scale kit. It powered with electric and is bit heavier than the SIG would build out to. The SIG kit can be built to about 11 or 12 lbs, and with a 1.20 four stroke is a sweet flyer. You will not find many if any scale kits, other than a Cub, that will fly at a walking pace. The 1/5 Cessna is not at all stable, or a slow flyer. Look for a light model with BIG wing.

If you want a floater build a Sig 1/4 Cub. They are a bit of work to build but are excellent flying planes. They will land at just above a walking pace if built light. If you aren't limited by size any $$$ the AMR 1/3 Cub or the Balsa USA 1/3 Cub are even better. I have an AMR 1/3 Cub and it just floats along and I get a lot of comments on how scale the plane looks in the air. It will definitely put a smile on your face when it putts by at 1/3 throttle about 15ft over the runway.
Good Luck!!

Walking pace landing speed is all about wing loading. So, it has to be really light. Does not matter what type of plane, it just has to be light. Maybe a little washout to prevent a tip stall. Any "trainer" type will suit. A very light Cub is probably your best bet since Scale is a concern.

im looking at the Piper PA-25 Pawnee from Hostetlers plans now im wondering if they can be scaled down to an 80 inch wingspan as i dont have room for his scale,
im wondering how it would fly and how slow it would fly before it stalled?
as ive been told a walking pace is dreaming, how about a running pace LMAO

. If you want scale build a busa cub and add flaps. Quakers do fly well, but a sig rascal 110 flys tons better and flaps are nice. My quaker hasnt seen the light of day in 5-6 years. I did have a 2x quaker with a 32cc gas motor and it was awesome for dorking around low and slow. I lost it in a midair a few years back. Was an incredible snow of balsa and monokote.

ok so the general consensus is a 1/5 Sig Cub with flaps, and robart landing gear "RIGHT" guys?
pulling the trigger tomorrow if i get permission from you guys
and promises that it will fly slow and low and not leave a mess all over the ground i have to pick up for cooking hotdogs on a stick
ive thought too of ordering another Antic from proctor, the "Parasol", but its not scale anything either but it would go nice with my antic bibe,
and putting flaps on it lmao to see how it does,

If you're not sure what a plane flies like do a youtube search, I found this for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OD8AFbYZ6c
That plane in the vid isn't a sig, but the sig will be similar in performance.
I think that answers your question. Have fun with the build.

Okay it ain't a scale plane but a leadfeather "QuickStick" from fancyfoam.com is actually a great slow flying. Instead of a high-pitched prop and a high KV motor, you put in a 1000KV and a 10x4.7 slow fly and it will do lazy 8s eight feet off the deck all day long.
