Default Recommended film for foam wings?

Hi, RCU,

It's been years since I covered a foam wing, so I am wondering about suitable covering films.

The plane is an ACE RC .15 Ultimate.

Coverite, TowerKote, TF EconoKote Monokote, etc. ???

Other than lightly sanding the little bumps off the wing, what other preparation is recommended?

Thanks, RCU!

Tony

Tony,
I have had great results with Econokote. After sanding the bumps, I will usually add balsa wing tips for damage resistance. Other than that, no special treatment.

Thanks, Chap! I'll give the EconoKote a shot. Also, I'll do the wingtips as you suggested. Good call on that!

All white is Econokote, blue is Monokote. Scratch built Ace 2T.

Looks great! Seeing that Cox engine really brings back my childhood of the 60s and flying control line planes in my front yard! Thanks for sharing the photo. I'll be sure to post likewise when mine is complete.

Ultracote will also work on bare foam. Watch the temperatures though! I used both Ultracote and Econokote on Ace wings quite a bit some years ago.

Thanks! I'll use my thermometer and monitor the temp closely.
