My first plans build RCM FLYBABY Plan-957

The only way I will ever get a nice paint job is to get Tom to do it for me. I have my limitations and painting is high on the list. Today, late in the afternoon I finally went out to my own shop to do something. I had pulled down the big bipe this morning and got it in the work stand. Had to clean a 1/2 inch of dust off of it though. My biggest question is where did I put all my anti vibe mounts for the gas engines?? Found the rubber encerts for them but only found a couple of the mounts.
After I pulled the bottom wing off I opened a couple of hatches that I forgot what they were for. I was pretty impressed with how well I had built this old plane.
I was checking it out and decided I too need to bend some new landing gear wire. Nothing wrong with the gear that's on it, I just think it would be better to move the front legs farther forward.
Goodness but my hands stink, old nasty firewalls really rub off on you.
I thought you were going to cover your plane with Solartex so it was a surprise to see it done in plastic. Did you look at the price and go into sticker shock??

Yeah Gene, It was sticker shock! lol Funds are kinda low for this plane so I decided to go with Monokote and Rustoleum paint. My next build I will budget better to allow for Solartex. Are you moving the gear forward because of nose overs? Don't be sniffin any of that dust! It aint good for ya! lol

I have only had that plane nose over once and that was when I got the bright idea to remove a 1.20 four stroke and stuck a 40cc gasser in it. Every time I put gear back into it I try a different engine. This time I'm using my old RCS 1.40 gasser. Very high performance 22cc engine but really small. It had better tug then the DLE 30 in my giant Kaos.
That old plane has great ground handling but I was just looking at it and the thought of that one noseover hit me in the brain?? With the Brison 40cc I used a 20 inch prop with that gear so the little 17 inch prop should be fine too.
Now you know why I backed off from the Pete, big plane and really calls out for TEX covering, so does the Lion. I have given fabric a big thought though. Not going to start anything unless I have everything I need to finish the build. Just doing repairs on old planes right now. Need to get out and buy some CA before I really get into anything.

I'm debating on weather or not to put red on the wings now. I originally wanted to but now that I look at the plane with the wing on, I really like how "clean" it looks. What do you guys think?
Wish I had photoshop or something so I could compare.

I was up late last night workin into the wee hours and made some progress. I used automotive vacuum line for the comming (sp?) around the cockpit, made the windshield and installed it and then early this morning painted the red on the wings. I agree with you guys.. the red on the wings really looks good and completes the plane.

I forgot the engine you were using but it was gas I think? On a gasser I have just gone to the auto store and gotten pin striping on the width I wanted and just over lapped the colors 50/50 with good results. On glow powered planes I use my covering stripe cutter and cut to width and iron it on with a trim iron. I do have pin stripping brushes and have used them with good results. One of the few things in painting I have gotten away with once the paint is thinned just right. Even with my shaky hands it has come out pretty well. Anyway you do it the paint job will pop.
