It's not scale but it'll work. lol I balanced nose heavy for the maiden flight so we'll see how that works out. Only thing left to do is set the control throws and tune the engine and i'm good to go. I read about the DLE 20's running hot so I opened up the cowl more.

Doesn't it need an (as in scale) engine?

I didn't plan on using a dummy engine on this one. It's not really scale.

I do plan on doing another build soon. Been thinking about a BUSA 1/4 scale Nieuport 17. Should be just what the Dr ordered! lol

Maiden went great! Beautiful 68 deg day, couldn't be happier! I had to add some left aileron but other than that it flew straight. And it FLYS! Yay! I feel like the DLE 20 may be a little under power for the plane but it's still being broke in and should get better.
It feels nice to fly something that I built from plans, like all the time put into the build was worth every minute. Flying an ARF has never gave me this feeling.
If anyone is questioning themselves about doing a plans build for the first time, I say go for it! It's a great feeling when you finish and it flys.
Thanks everyone for your help!
Now on to the next build..

Building from plans is a lot like building one of the old kits with the part shapes printed on the balsa (pre-die crushed) for you to cut out. I started out on Comet models so you know where I'm coming from.

Yeah, that was how I felt when I flew my first Bud Nosen Citabria. Then I build 3 more of the monsters with the last being built as a very large Decathelon with a Q50 on the front.

I just ordered a BUSA 1/4 scale Nieuport 17 kit. It will be my first biplane so i'm a little nervous..lol I've been doing a lot of research on the kit and it seems to be a good one. I have been reading some of the history on these planes and have picked out a color scheme. As far as I know it's British.
