Just curious, before you take that big thing to SIG, are you going to upgrade to a larger engine? It might reduce the amount of extra dead weight needed to balance out that monster

Nope, staying with the DA 100. I had it and saw the Rascal was just about the right size for it. I thought it would be too much for it considering it was spec'd for a 60CC. If all goes well with it I may make a new lighter tail for it with carbon fiber and foam. Shave 2 pounds there and maybe be able to remove the dead battery off the firewall.

At least you had a chance to go. In my case, due to my work schedule, I couldn't even think about going since I live an hour north of Seattle so, unfortunately, it would be at least a two day drive ONE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Miden flight went of with out a hich. Had a 12 knot cross wind over hangers powered up, tail up, wheels off and rose in to the air like it had done that before. It was welll worth the time me and JR put into it. I put 5 flights on it and each time it got better. (Probably because I quite shaken like a nervous kitten). Hope to put some more time on it today. Maybe i will try a loop and a roll.

Well made it through another year at SIG. despite the wind , I had an awesome time with all the fellow flyers. I would especially like to thank SIG for putting on such an awesome event. I can't wait for next year. Need to figure out a encore airplane for next year. It's going to be hard to fallow up after the success of the Rascal 168.

Just pick one of the early designs and scratch-build it - something that hasn't been seen in the air in a couple decades. That should do it nicely.
Glad to hear the weekend went so well. Cool stuff.

Sign me up! King Kobra .60 50% complete, LT-40 90% complete, and my first build in 1980 was a Kadet MKII. I'm getting back into the hobby and currently building several of the kits I have found over the years.
I need a decal set for my Kobra!! Love that T-Bird design, anyone have a set?

Lets see if this works. (guess not, links to FB aren't working)

Well the SIG flyin was not as great as it could have been thanks to the wind. Friday was OK, gusty, but manageable. Saturday was terrible, the windsock was straight out for the most part and there were gusts that knocked tents over and wait until you hear what Crunch didn't tell in his tails.
He got a 4*40 without a landing gear, he knocked it off Friday, picked it up, fired up the motor and tossed it in and flew it more. Little secret about Crunchman, he knows how to fly, I think he crashes on purpose! Saturday He tosses it in the air and is flying this plane around on full throttle and the wind is tossing it around good, but he flew it well, and then did a smooth belly landing almost at his feet. Then he says, Screw the wind, and right then the wind gusted and busted his canopy apart! LMAO I also heard he had a undy fudging moment Saturday morning with the Rascal.
Oh if only I had video of that, the timing could not have been more perfect!
Then Bob Nelson had to show him up, and brought his electric LT 25 out and flew that, he is good, it was some great flying with a little trainer in 25 MPH winds.

The temps were high, but the humidity was low, and the wind kept everyone cool, but grounded.

HOW DARE YOU FLY A GARAGE SALE ARF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You did such a nice job on the monster that would seem demeaning to me to fly something you didn't build

ARF have their place. They work for a quick flier while the build is on the bench. They also work great to test fly an airframe you are considering to build, before you build it to see if you really want to put all that time into it and not like it.
They are also great as a first plane to learn on so you don't smash the one you build and spend countless hours and $$$$s on only to plant it on the first flight, such as a Mustang P-51. Started the Top Flight kit, doing heavy mods, and decided to buy the arf to test it out and learn its faults so the build can accommodate them.
I talked to Herb about this. They are bringing out a 1/4 scale T-Clips ARF, and I asked why not a kit based on the ARF and he said it is because it takes a year or more to design, plan, package, etc a kit. If the kit doesn't sell, then that is a lot of R&D money out the window. People today are lazy, don't care about pride of building and want instant gratification. Hard to market kits with that kind of buyer today. Thats why Horizon is doing so well, they market ARF and only ARF, and that is all they fly at their events. If you ask me, I think they are the snobs now, not us builders.
I can't stand having my planes look just like everyone elses and modify them as much as possible so they don't look like everyone elses. Thats why my Rascal is the way it is, doesn't look like the typical Rascal, yet follows the Rascal Scheme. Same with my LT-40 and Cub. Everyone has a Yellow Cub, but how many do you see that are red white and blue? My Somethin Extra is the ARF, but it looks different from all the rest. If flown in a pack, you can easily pick mine out from all the rest. Someday I may build one from the kit, when I get time, but I have other projects that take a long time to complete, and that's where an ARF does come in handy.
