Made the Maidem flight on the Hogg Bipe yesterday. All went as expected, plane handles real well. And did I mention that EVO 15cc gasser is a rocket? flew mostly half throttle and the plane was fast. Thanks to Phil at wiregrass rc for the first flight and trim out. Im gonna like this plane.

Since we have so many new members in the SIG Brotherhood how about a straw poll?

If you could have any one obsolete SIG kit put back into production which would it be?

Since I asked the question I'll go first: Max's Ryan STA I'm a Ryan fanatic have been looking at this kit longingly since it went out of production. It seems like everytime I come across this kit for sale I can't afford the premium price to buy it.

OKC- that's pretty funny, because the Ryan STA is the one that came to my mind before I even read your entire post!

1/4 scale Cub. While there are lots and lots of ARF's out there and a bad build is nasty, not having a stand by to fall back on stinks.

Oh, I think you ought to start a new thread for this poll

Had a great weekend. Flew one on Saturday and built on the SIG Komet all day on Sunday. Was standing in the driveway working on the cowling when the family next door all jumped in the car and left, and then came back 20 minutes later. I asked them where they had gone and they said they went to watch a one and a half hour movie at the theater. Wow, it was nearly two hours that they had been gone and I thought it was only 20 minutes, ( I don't wear a watch). Wow, two hours standing in the driveway and garage working on the Komet, I think even Maxey would be proud!

as far as obsolete KITS go, I would have to pick the Komander. I just always liked the quasi jet/patternplane look of the design and the main gear hanging from a shoulder mounted wing was just cool. If I could talk Sig into bringing back an ARF it would be the Lil' Rascal. I nailed a goalpost at the high school football field with mine years ago, just this week started dissecting what was left of it to draw up a set of plans and scratch build a replacement.

I hate the term obsolete.there are many like us that would love to build some sig kits.my favorite probably is the sig kougar.i had 3 of them and I may just go for another.and yes I may even build another cub.right now I am about 90 percent done with my sig liberty sport.

Maybe a better term is discontinued.at any rate a good kit is always a good kit.and never goes out of vogue.i will prefer balsa over foam anytime.

Yeah, same here as well. Foam only lasts when it's not used at all. Once a foam plane is in use, it degrades quickly. Interesting thing is how over priced I think foam aircraft are. How much does the foam material actually cost the manufacturer to do the fuse and wings? I'm sure around a buck for the entire thing, but they sell them for big stupid dollars. That's why there are so many out there. Manufacturers discovered a way to make a killing spending next to nothing for materials and selling for a huge profit. I'd love to see the profit margin on this. I can only imagine: the foam fuse and wings for "Plane X" is $1.00 and sold for $80.00.

And people will buy these all up because they look cool right out of the box and they are instant gratification without all the months of fuss, labor and building. But I guarantee you that a dozen or so flights on a foam airframe and degrading will be noticeable. And that is primarily why you hardly ever see a used foam plane for resale. They are complete junk after a single full season of flying, at best. I know because I do have a foam a/c for instant and temporary shytz & giggles while I'm building my real planes. No joke, 30 to 40 flights over a two month period of time and it's time to lay that one to rest.

Did they make a 1/4 scale Ryan ST-A that would surely get my vote.

Acdii - ye gads! Sounds like you've had a horrible couple weeks. Hopes and prayers going your way.

Hey! All Y'all!!! I've been working on a little project for quite awhile and I've finally got enough going that I could use a bit of help. Curiosity got me (REALLY got me) one day and I started looking up all the kits that SIG has put out over the years. Of course, the listing grew and grew, until I simply HAD to put it in my website - just to keep track of everything. Here's where I can use the help - first page is at http://www.wanderings-ds.com/whs/sig-history-1.html

If anybody has any kind of information for the MANY kits that I've forgotten/missed/messed-up-on, PLEASE either post them here or e-mail me direct - d w w s m w 5 2 at y a h o o dot c o m (y'all know how to put it together - I hope).

Had no idea they had such a history, it's HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

You can say that again, brings back many memories for sure.

As for the topic on what kit to bring back I would love to have a Kiwi or the Skybolt. I had a Skybolt back in the mid 80's. Fantastic kit.

I have one of those in the attic! Hang a Saito 150 on the nose and go forth to fly.
