Kit is like anything else, it's worth what you can get somebody to pay for it. But for a US 1000 kit you can figure on somewhere in the range of $180-$260 for it. Start high and be prepared to bring the price down if don't get any nibbles. I would expect it to got out the door around $200 or so

Mike,
I apologize for not being able to get up there. Unfortunately I couldn't get it through the corporate gears here at RCU to get approval on the trip. But what I'm going to do for next years event is to make sure I have it on my list of event I want to cover every year that submit at the beginning of the year. That list usually gets approved so I would be able to make your event that way no problems at all. I would have really like to have been there. And once again I'm sorry that I didn't make it.

Not a problem Ken. When the stars align correctly (4-Stars that is) you will be here, I'm sure. It was a tall order, but we managed to have some fun even without you , and in spite of the bad weather on Saturday.

I think the weather forecast affected Saturday's turnout a lot. Blame it on the internet. With the internet guys can get great up-to-date weather forecasts and satellite images so easily, that they can make more accurate last minute "go" "no go" decisions on attending a weekend event. In the old days we'd pack the car and take off, not knowing what was in store for us when we got there. I know of several people who told me in the week before that they would definitely be attending, but then opted out when they saw the forecast. Nobody wants to drive 200 to 300 miles and be rained out.

This was the 40TH ANNUAL SIG R/C FLY-IN. As you can imagine, we've weathered a few rain outs in that time. It's always a great pleasure to see how well those that do come deal with the situation and make it fun regardless of conditions. There are some great people in this hobby!

Looking forward to seeing you at the 41ST ANNUAL SIG R/C FLY-IN next year Ken.

Mike

The highlight of the trip for me was being able to update Hazel on my daughter. I introduced her to Hazel several years ago and Hazel gave her many words of encouragement . This year I was able to tell Hazel my daughter just graduated from High School with no less than 10 honors courses, playing Symphony Violin, working 2 jobs, volunteering at the community center and the animal shelter and was just accepted to the University of Iowa Pre Med to become a Vet. Hazel was pleased.

I drove 4 hours despite knowing there would be rain. I still managed to get some flying in, even in the rain. Would have flown more if I had a way to keep the radio dry. It's too bad I couldnt stay later to get some more flights in, but getting to see Bob fly his Bugatti made the trip. We have a list together on what to bring next year. My wife enjoyed it too and now has an itch to learn how to fly. If she learns and likes it, I can always build her her own LT-40 in Pink.

Edit: Hey Mike Next year get some hats on the trailer! LOL

But if she is building with you she can't complain about the time spent in the shop!

She doesn't, in fact she encourages it. She knows the stress of my job will drive me insane so when I am not working on a plane she wonders what is wrong. The only thing she isn't too fond of is the smell of the dope and paint I use. It gets upstairs in our bedroom since my shop is right underneath it. I call it my man perfume. I bought another kit at the Fly In and she smiled and said good, you got one you wanted.

I'm with you!! Oh yeah, most definitely!!!!!!! There is one small place in my world that even my wife of 45 years is not allowed - my shop - and that is without exception. My planes take up half of it, my woodworking equipment takes up the other half - it's my world. Every guy's gotta have one place on the planet that's all his, and his alone.

Sig produces great RC kits. I have built the King Cobra and used a Fox Eagle IV (60) for power. Its a great combination, basically its a pattern/sports airplane with great flying characteristics. Have flown several LT-25's and Kadets, all fly well.

I am thinking of having shirts made with the old logo from their hanger. Would be pretty neat.

Gray shirt with the above logo with Brotherhood underneath.

I am thinking of having shirts made with the old logo from their hanger. Would be pretty neat.

Gray shirt with the above logo with Brotherhood underneath.
Sounds like a cool idea, but I would recommend first running it by the boys and girls at Montezuma, IA and get their blessing before proceeding. I'm sure the old logo is trademarked.

I for one would LOVE a shirt like that- especially if we could get the grey background to look like the barn (should be easy enough. If you manage to get'm printed, please count me in. Small logo top-center on the front, big one top-centered on the back

Over the years I have built and flown many Sig planes, first C/L and then RC but I never built and flew a Four Star. Well today I maiden a 4 Star 60 with an OS 90FX in it. Flew great and only required a few clicks of up trim to fly hands off.

Now a question. I set the CG as shown on the plans. Actually it is towards the rear of the specified range but on landings the plane felt nose heavy. Does anyone have a suggestion on were the CG should be?

Thank you for hosting the event! I was all ready for the 18 hour trip to see everyone, fly and even pick up a 1/4 cub but a little brown recluse decided to ruin the week. LOL.

I guess next next year will be the year and hopefully cubs will still be available.

Saturday featured a 6 hour rain delay from about 1:00pm to 7:00pm. Things got pretty soggy! Many fliers left the field, but those that stayed enjoyed LOTS of great hangar flying stories. We went forward with the free "hamburger burn" for the entrants and their families a little earlier than normal, with everyone crowded into Hazel's main hangar. Hazel came up from her house in the rain, pulling her "Spacewalker" colored golf cart right inside the hangar. With the constant chatter and the rain hitting the metal roof, it was a busy noisy place. Only quiet time was when the Belmont Stakes horse race started on the TV.

After the rain stopped a handful of dedicated fliers enjoyed some of the best calm conditions of the whole weekend. It turned into one of those ideal flying sessions where you can't help but enjoy one pretty touch-and-go after another.

Thanks again to all who attended. We hope to see you at SIG FIELD next year.

You're right - they're all great kits. One day I might have almost enough on-hand to feel comfortable, doubt that it's possible though. Y'need to be a brother here - I took the liberty to log you in with #118 - welcome to the SIG Brotherhood!!

Well shoot if SIG makes a shirt like this, I will buy them right from the source! LOL

Landeck, my 4Star120 lands nose heavy too, I dropped some weight off the nose, which moved CG back a bit. When you land, does it seem to land hard? Thats what mine did until I removed enough weight, and can even loose a bit more.

The Maiden of my 4 Star 54 went well recently. I flew it with a well worn but reliable OS46SF, Hitec servos, a Hitec Aurora 9 radio and SIG 15% Champion fuel. As you can see the crosswind was a bit stiff but the 4 Star handled it well.

Has anyone ever put together a plane that was so easy that you had to step back and check the plans booklet and the box to see if you forgot something?
I have only experienced this I couple of times, both were with sig kits. The first was the 4 star 60 the next was the hog bip. Last night I put together the T Clips that I pick up at Sig last weekend and was blown away how easy it was to put together. Yes it is an ARF but I have other ARF's together and had to scratch my head at what they were trying to do.
I just want thank Sig for making the hobby even more exciting to be a part of.
