That's it I think. Checking their website it looks like they are all electric now.

Good evening everyone,

I need a little help here. I'm currently in the very slow process of building a Sig 4-Star 40. I have a cowling from Fiberglass Specialties that I plan on installing on this plane. It is my understanding that I will need to remove the engine "cheeks" from the fuselage. Can anyone tell me about how much I need to cut off the front of my airplane? This seems rather scary to me.

Thanks for the help,

US Aircore used to sell coroplast planes for glow fuel. I heard they were a bit heavy.

Chop it off even with the front of the fire wall.

Heavy for the WS but the high wing models had a long wing cord so wing loading isn't that bad. They are durable. I am repairing a "Knight Hawk" tail dragger that suffered from a flaps deployed unintended snap roll @ WOT from 30' altitude. It went straight in. Only real damage was the front bulkhead of the wing saddle & that wouldn't have been so bad except I modified the wing mounting from rubber bands to dowels & 1/4-20 nylon bolts.

When I built the airframe to a point, I went to the LHS & rubber banded Saito engines to the nose until I found one that balanced the CG W/O added ballast. The "cartridge can be shifted fore/aft to fine tune the CG.

It has a Saito FA-91S burning 15% nitro glow fuel W/CDI in the nose. It lands a bit heavy, but it has pretty good flight performance. It will take off @ about 1/4 throttle W/O flaps. The only time I tried full flaps, it shot straight up & I panicked jamming the throttle full on trying to get altitude. That's when it snap rolled after climbing to about 30'.

It has 64" WS & 12" wing cord.768 sq in. AUW is 6# 12oz W/8oz of fuel, About 20oz per sq ft. It could be built lighter. The biggest drawback I see is the contact cement construction method. It is easy to build a twist into things if you are't careful..

I had a Aircore that my wife gave my for Christmas years ago, fun to build but cant remember if it was tail heavy or not. It's flying ability wasn't anything to write home about but boy was that thing durable! Great memories!

I think Aircore leans more toward durability then great flying. I see them as trainers.

I have a 1/4 Cub. Deciding on power in four stroke glow. Have a 182 twin and a 300 twin. Anyone used the 300 Saito twin on this plane?
It's set up with electric now 8s or 10s but miss the sound and electric not for me.

A .91 4 stroke will fly a 1/4 Cub in a scale manner. Your 182 twin will provide more than ample power for your airframe.

Thanks Tom. I always tend to think they need more power than necessary. I have a 20x10 prop on the electric set up. So was looking at that 300 saying hmmm. May just bolt a Saito 120 on it and be done.

Hey guys! Thought I'd just pop in here with a status update on that Stratus build. Top deck in on her now, the monster OS.61sf engine is in place and she's standing on her own 3 legs. She's actually a bit farther along than these pics show, cap over the fuel tank area is on but not sanded down yet. Radio's going in her today and, hopefully, the new front cowl will go on too. Then I can sand the entire front end.

Getting closer...

May I have a number? I learned on a Kadet Jr. in 1982, which I am still flying with my young son! In addition I have built and flown a Kougar, King Kobra, Fazer, Astro Hog, and am currently building a Kavalier. In the box I have a 1/6 CW Cub, 1/3 Spacewalker.

Of course there's a number for you! Glad to see another SIG brother joining us. 1982-built Kadet - good to see another old soldier still flying. Gotcha logged with #155. Welcome to the SIG Brotherhood.

And here's the SIG Brotherhood as I've got it today (3-columns):

All,

With all this building going on I just had to jump in too with my Riser 100. This is my first build in a very long time but I'm excited about building another Sig kit. Look at all that wood!

The Riser's a great flying airplane - you're going to enjoy her a lot, I'm sure. That's the best part of the SIG kits, lotsa wood to work with, and it's all top grade every time.

Got just a bit more done on that Stratus today - nose is rough sanded.

Still have to trim off the front end and put my plywood spinner ring on. Then I'll re-hash the lower right corner where I cut it out for the muffler to fit into, but I don't think that's going to be nearly the job I thought it might be at first. Probably have all that done tomorrow, along with the tapered headrest behind the pilot. He's the perfect size for the tiny cockpit but he sure looks lost up on top of that great big fuse.

Geez, I'm almost to the point that all the major construction will be done. Then it's all covering & painting, and I still haven't decided colors or scheme.

Enjoy the build. The Riser is a Sig airframe that I never see. It'll be interesting to see a few pics as you make progress.
