As you say. K&S tubing is not structural, and requires internal reinforcement. If I were to add wing struts, I'd use balsa clad aluminum,, as I did on this Ryan.

Keep in mind, he wants to add struts to an ARF, which is more work that incorporating them into an airframe while it is being built.
I used streamlined aluminum tubing (I think it was K&S) on my "over powered" Sr Telemaster that had an FA-150 CDI on the nose. The only places that was reinforced were the ends. I used flat aluminum stick epoxied inside the flattened ends of the tube. I used to put it that plane into a shallow dive @ WOT & yank up on the stick when it reached maximum speed. Never had any strut failures.

Adding wing strut mounting blocks only requires the removal of covering from I bay of the underside if the wing as mentioned earlier.

ARF noted, as I stated in my original post, the attachments are a major problem, basically he has to open a rib bay, add the hardpoints and patch or recover the wing. The fuse would be easier task if that area is open, but the Sport has a large hatch area.

Aluminum balsa clad vs streamline tubing filled? that's a toss up, I found painting the aluminum usually has a better finish than painting balsa.

All good thoughts.

btw, nice Ryan

I've got a few of those kicking around myself. My first Futaba came with those. But it wasn't an AM. Think it was actually a "Gold Stickered" unit.
Airtronics had those trays also. I've got a few those and also a couple of JR trays still wrapped in stock. Problem is, Hi-Tech servo's don't fit them.
I've resorted to making my own trays out of 1/8" ply for a specific bird I've got in the hanger.

I would like to join. I have a Something Extra, rebuilding a Kobra due to dumb thumbs, and have a Cipped Wing Cub kit on the schedule to build this winter. Always on the lookout for any Sig kit.

Default My latest addition to a long string of Sig airplanes

Here are a couple of shots of my latest creation from Sig, a "Sealane" kit built with the amphibian option for land or water flying. It's powered by an OS .46 AX with Futaba FASST radio gear and UltraCote turquoise and white covering. It flies a lot like a LT-40.

Newbiedc & PipeMajor - I want to welcome you both to RCU, the SIG Brotherhood and this crazy addiction of flight! "Dumb thumbs" - now I know what to call it. Good term - sounds so much better than my usual "geez, I'm a klutz!".

PipeMajor - love it!! Another control-liner in the group - GLAD TO SEE YA!!!!!!! Banshee, Magnum & P-51 Stunter - all 3 are in my stable too, great planes. And I just retired my original Kadet, now I'm terrorizing the buzzards, crows & such with my Mk-II. Saw your photo op but I wanna go through it again and REALLY pay attention - - pretty cool stuff, and now you've got me thinking about my own rubber band usage. I've always gone with the thought of 3 bands (each side) for up to .30, 4 (each side) for .30-.46 - maybe need to rethink things.

Hey guys, we have you both logged in - Newbiedc has #126, PipeMajor has #127.

And here's the SIG Brotherhoodas I've got it today:[TABLE="width: 592"]

Larry, that's a beautiful Sealane, and the first one I've seen chronicled here in RCU. Nicely done!!!

Please add me to this list. I recently bought a 1/4 scale J-3 Cub that I need to break out of the box and build.

I also realized I have several Sig control line planes, Skyray 35, a couple of Twisters, a Banshee, and a couple of Akromasters.

Hey Jeff! Welcome to the SIG Brotherhood- and we've got still ANOTHER SIGcontrol-line flier - - double welcome!! Gotcha logged in with #128.

And here's the SIG Brotherhood, as I've got it today (3-columns) :[TABLE="width: 592"]

Welcome RDJeff to this motley crew of SIG lovers! Don't forget to join the Cub Brotherhood too! May we expect a building thread on your 1/4 scale Cub? Speed or lack there of is not a factor if you look at some of the other threads a round here. I myself have a TF 182 I have been building for 3 years and still don't have it finished. Sometimes life just gets in the way. If you want decals for your Cub other than what cam with it I recommend Gary over at Decal-it. He is making some Civil Air Patrol insignia and N numbers to turn my SIG 1/5 scale Cub to this:

In case your curious here is a close up of the CAP insignia from back in those days:

I have graphics ordered for my Rascal, too.

I maidened my T-Clips 60 today. All I can say is "wow!"

I wonder what the time frame is for the T-Clips 70. Last I heard was August. It's August.

I nearly lost my LT-40 last night. I took off and flew one circuit and on the turn around, it went vertical, lost ailerons, and it acted very quirky. I was able to regain control and landed it with rudder(which my friend was quite impressed since rudder flying only is usually right stick, not left) then once it was on the ground, ailerons started working again. I took the wing off and started wiggling the cables and the lost plane alert started beeping as I wiggled, Hmm bad connector? Then I noticed the bind light flashing green/red as I wiggled, so I popped the RX off( I use velcro) and it totally died. Turns out the power connection to the RX came loose. Man did I get lucky, I could have really LOST the plane had it gone out straight and level with a dead RX. Full throttle for 14 minutes, it could fly for miles before it an out of fuel. No failsafe when the RX loses power!

There's a story behind hit. Let's just say that I'm old.

I got in another flight on my T-Clips tonight. The more I fly it, the more I like it.

Double thanks to you Dave for the number! I also remembered that my Riser 100 is a Sig product, so now I'm a triple threat!

Thanks for the heads-up on the decals, I'll be sure to look for those when the time comes. I spent an hour last night cutting out the printed parts with the bandsaw, so my build has officially started. I figure it will be done in February, maybe sooner.

I'll have to update my signature line, as I'm already a member of both the Cub Brotherhood and the Tiger group.

SIG posted a photo of my 4Star20 with the OS26Surpass on their Facebook page today, I thought that was very cool of them.

Hi,
I guess I have a few Sig planes: lets see, Kiwi (love to see re-kitting that plane), BlueHawk, Mayhem 60, Sundancer 50, Hog Bipe, Kobra. All high quality nice flying kits/planes in my opinion.

Enjoy!

My wife is a SIG fan, loved going to the Fly in this year and wants to do it again. My daughter shall soon become a SIG fan, her birthday is the 13th and I plane to get her an LT-25 and power it with an Eflite Power 25 that I have laying around. A couple years more and my son should be ready for this too. Daughter turns 9. Son is 7. I think 9 is a good year to get them started in building. My outlook is fly what you build, you are more likely to take better care of it and treat it well when you build it yourself as opposed to assembling already made parts. So they learn to build first, then fly.

Go ahead and give the 7 & 9 year olds a shot at it. My LHS owner has a grandson younger than 7 who is already a pretty good pilot. I think he started him out on Real Flight first to get him a little stick time.

I am sure they each will be good pilots, thats not it. It's the responsibility that goes along with it. I want to make sure they are responsible for what they do with them, and if they work hard to build one, they are more likely to take better care of it. The problem I have are the inlaws buy these kids so much stuff that they wind up tossing it aside, and it winds up in the trash. When they have to spend countless hours building a plane from a box of wood, they will appreciate it more and take care of it, especially at the expense of them. They will also know, they break it, they fix it. I will help them get started, then they are on their own on the repairs.

I got to fly my 4Star20 today with the 26Surpass. Wonderful plane !! I thought the 26 would be marginal on power, I was so very wrong !! I continue to be amazed at how well a 4 stroke can haul around a plane using its massive torque(describing "massive torque" from a diminutive 4 stroke seems strange, but the tiny little shoe fits ) . And its so quiet, its quieter than some of the electrics that were buzzing around. If you build one I suggest using Tactic TSX20 servos(or equivalent, these are what I used) I think the suggested HS81 servos are just a bit light duty for a plane this size, mine came in right at 3 lbs dry.
