There is a 4*120 build thread in the kit section. I will be starting mine in the next week or two as well.

I want to go old school and use a 1.60 FX on this one. I was going to use a 1.20 but it ended up else where and then a DLE35 that ended up in a Giant Sportster. With a 1.60 FX the performance will be incredible. Almost as much power as a DLE30 but with less weight. Just have to put up with the slime.... I have to admit the 1.60 is about the best running glow engine ever. All the ones I have had anything to do with were superb.

The build thread over there started back around 2005 if I recall and it has many great ideas you can consider for your build. Many people have contributed over the years.

i am done with Glow, it is sooo expensive and a 1.60 is always hungry

where i live a gallon of glow costs around 40$ actually it made me quit from the hobby for quite a long time

i just bought a DLE 30 (which is still in the box) for the GUS and was thinking if the DLE 20 would have enough juice for the 4 star

Only $25? I guess it is all relative. I used to buy a case for $25! The high glow prices caused me to switch to electric and gas.

Those days are sadly long gone. The price of glow fuel didn't even enter the conversation back in the 70's.

I'm flying my current 4-Star 120 with an Evolution 30cc gas engine on it. I love the gas economy of it and not having to pay the high prices of glow fuel. It's got a 14 oz tank on it and with that I can easily get in 3-4 flights, depending on how long I fly each flight. I've had bigger glow engines in the past (larger than 1.20 size), but those days are over for me. With the cost of glow fuel I simply can't afford to have a fuel hungry engine like that!!!!

Our float club is converting a 1/4 scale cub to gas to fly at events. Going gas for the economy. I sold all my glow engines 2 years ago and went all electric. I haven't looked back and have no regrets.

I built a 120 and fly with the DLE20. Its adequate but not unlimited. It also weighs over 13 pounds. The DLE30 RA would be a much better choice as it will offset the extra tail weight with the elevator servo in the tail. I put it back there for better control, less deflection since the pushrod is short. The rudder is pull-pull, and I shortened the wing by one bay each side. I also put rounded tips on so it wont catch in the grass if I drop a wing on landing. I also put the fuel tank on CoG, so it balances full or empty.

Absolutely, YOU'RE IN!! Gotcha logged with #139, welcome to RCU and the SIG Brotherhood!! Ahhhhh, building a 4star is just like building your Kadet Sr, or a Guillows kit, only a bit more involved, WAY STRONGER and a whole lot more fun. I'm sure there are some threads around here about the 4stars in general, and probably a few on the 120's specifically.

Sooooo, here's the SIG Brotherhood, as I've got it today:

Hey, a charge of a lipo is not even a penny!
I know, I know.......it took me a while also to make the transition. I was just used to internal combustion, but I gotta tell ya, truthfully, electric power is clean, efficient and cost effective.

The way I splain it is this, electrics is like smoking a cigarette glow is like smoking a cigar. They both get you to the same feeling but the cigar is a lot more work, and is more messy smelly , trouble etc.
But some of us prefer cigars.

Now you have me interested in what premium gas n oil mix is. Something tells me it would be something recreational with lots of kick to it.

The pollution is just upstream, at a nuclear facility, coal burning plant, etc. Electric gives folks the 'warm and fuzzies' because they never see the mess it takes to get it provided. Kinda the same with petrol or glow where the facility to refine or make the fuel is far and away for most of us and we never see the mess it can make! 'Wet' power just puts some of the mess back onto the consumer. Petro is still the most efficient when you get down to the brass tax of it all!!!!!

My trailer gives free electric for charging Lipo, Life or other batteries. I have a deep cycle connected to a solar panel.

The German auto makers laughed at our electric cars due to the fact that most of the electricity generated in the U S is from coal fired power plants. They claim their "clean diesel" technology creates less polution than electric cars.

Do a little planning & pick up fuel by the case on trips.

I get 15% Cool Power for $16.99 a gallon from Hobbytown USA on the North side of Indianapolis. i buy enough for the season when I visit relatives.

Mix your own & you can make methanol/oil mix for about $5 a gallon.

Around here the state won't approve a coal fired plant. They last one to try after getting turned down went to a Natural Gas fired plant and his head was spinning how fast it was approved. Natural Gas is a lot cleaner than coal.

I don't get a warm and fuzzy from using electric. It doesn't bother me to transfer my carbon foot print since I don't have to clean goo off of my planes anymore.

That's great but the technology to produce those panels creates quite a bit of refuse! I always laugh when folks say 'is that buy one get one free any good?'. I tell them that nothing is free... not even the air to breathe... for, as an example, you do not get free catalytic converters when you buy your new autos viz-a-viz you pay for the air you breathe!!!!! However, I digress and appreciate everyone's environmental concerns. Let's fly!

Some think because I drive a hybrid I hug trees. Quite the opposite, my other car is a twin turbo 365 HP SUV. I prefer my glow/gas over electric, can't hear electric. One thing you notice when driving a hybrid is just how many people waste gas. LOL If you want a real head slapper AKA facepalm, go to priuschat and see how many of them there swear how much less waste it take to build a ppprius vs a Hummer.

oh and betting fuel direct at SIG saves money too. $15 a gallon.

And OK is the fracking capitol of the US. Don't you love those earthquakes?

I had a CRRC 40 gasser in my 4star 120 Arf and it was adequate. The lump may have been heavy, but what I was reading was that these planes needed nose weight anyway, and it balanced just right.
Unfortunately, it met it's demise when i was flying on low rates, thinking I was on high rates and the ground was a few feet too high. Then I was extra upset when I found out they are no longer making the Arf's.

PS. I'm suppose to get email updates of new posts on my RCU subscriptions, but sometimes it goes for a couple weeks with nothing, and then I need to catch up a few pages of reading. Anyone else have this problem?
