I am totally stoked today!! Finally got the plans for the 1966-era Stratus (SIG-RC6) and got them all laid out to take a look-see. I've had a thing for this plane ever since it first came out - just could never get it with moving around all the time. Anyway, Maxey Hester noted on the plans sheet that the plane would fly on a .45 just as well as a .60, just not as fast - which got me curious. Come to find out, she's a near duplicate of my CG Sr. Falcon (1967-era) which has been flying for over 40 years with a .45 - and not a strong one at that, OS.45LA drives her just fine with 11x6 prop.

Falcon - ws=69", length=48", weight=6.25lbs
Stratus - ws=70", length=48.5", weight (projected)=6 - 7 lbs

This is gonna be fun!! Thinking of a build thread, but it won't be a fast one. As many planes as I've built over the past 59 years, all are kits or restorations of old kits that were torn up. This will be my first scratch build.

Just thought I would drop in and say hi as I have been away for a bit and thought I would give a little update on what I have been up to in the world of Sig. I have been working on my 1/6 Cub kit and have it mostly framed up . It has been a challenge with the limited instructions on this old kit and some old balsa that needed to be replaced . I hope to have some pics for you by the weekend of what I have done. I picked up a Kavalier and a Astro Hog at an auction last weekend and for a change of pace I stripped down the Hog to recover it and found lots of damaged balsa and broken formers . It looks like the Hog has seen lots of flight time and more than a couple of rough landings.
So far this is whats in the hangar
LT40
Cloud Ranger
Cessna 180 Skywagon
1/6 Cub on the bench
1/4 Cub in the box
Astro Hog under repair
Hog Bipe coming this weekend .

Geez Kevin, why is it that I never come across planes like that? They're GREAT! Well done!!

OK guys, I've started a thread for the Stratus - and I'm going to be asking for advice all the way through it, I guarantee that. Thread's at: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/kit-...l#post11986884

I just hope I can do this plane justice.

OK guys, I've started a thread for the Stratus - and I'm going to be asking for advice all the way through it, I guarantee that. Thread's at: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/kit-...ml#post1198688

I just hope I can do this plane justice.
Thanks Dave ! That's going to be a nice plane when you are done . Good luck with the build and I will be keeping an eye on the thread just to get some tips .

Should I say what I paid for the Hog and Kavalier ?

I thought it was pretty good ! $60.00 for the Kavalier with a Webra speed .40 RTF.
The Hog was $45.00 with a GMS .61 and RTF.

I noticed a while back that Tower is now carrying the Sig line.

Whats funny about that is I can get it delivered quicker from SIG than from Tower, and I live in IL.

The answer to that is easy, at least for awhile yet. Take a look-see at http://www.wanderings-ds.com/whs/sig-history-1.html

Curiosity got the best of me awhile ago.

Wow Dave ! Very nice site . I really enjoyed reading the information and seeing all the different Sig planes they have made over the years . I never knew they had that many different designs.
and I see a couple that I really like.
