Been lucky. That kind of scenario hasn't happened to me in a long time.
That just means you don't fly enough!

I hate when that happens. Or discovering when you get to the field, that you brought the wrong wing.... or no wing.

I had that happen a couple of years ago. Arrived at the lake to go boat racing and discovered I didn't have any radio gear in the truck. Needless to say, I didn't run and the wife wasn't happy about sitting and watching others play after driving three hours to get to the race site

Hi Guys....just checking in
I guarantee ya that if a .33 caliber #00 buck pellet hits a duck, it's going down. Now, it is possible at the sparse pattern failed to connect, or maybe you're just a poor shot?

I never use anything smaller than a size 8 on ducks. Then again I quit hunting them since they went to steel shot. My old L.C. Smith side by side is from 1910 and I don't want to ruin the barrels.

Well I finally started my Riser 100 build. First build in a long time and it sure was fun! I'm going to convert it to electric in order to fly it at my local field which is an electric only club. I started a thread if anyone is interested, input and comments are very welcome.

There were 3 Kadet Seniors and an LT-40. I didn't get a pic of the LT.

Just checking in with the latest on the Stratus. Fuse is not very far from finished, 3 coats each of 2 colors, first coat of color #3 (blue) is on her now. Here's a couple pics of how she's shaping up (blue stuff is the masking/painters tape):

On porch with tape still on In house, tape removed:

Never seen one of those before or at least don't remember ever seeing one which could get me started off topic...anyway obviously a unique tail and I had to go look it up. Reviews I found said it is a very nice flyer. Is this a new build or refurbish? Have you flown it before? The pictures I found of it look like it has a pretty good wingspan. Love that look, it's going to be an eye catcher!

Hey Tony! Yeah, this is a plans-build - got them from heggen last winter and I've been working on it ever since. As far as I know, his is the ONLY one in the air right now - haven't been able to track down any others. If you saw the pic of the beautiful white one with red & black trim sitting on the grass, that's his. Springs arrival slowed me down an awful lot but I can see her in the air by June.

Stratus ws=70", length=48.5", weight (projected)=6 - 7 lbs, engine=.45-.60 - - size-wise she's a near duplicate to my CG Sr. Falcon which is; ws=69", length=49.5", weight 6.5-7.5 lbs (mine is 6.75 lbs), engine=.45-.60 (mine runs a OS.46LA just fine).

Fuse is 99% finished - got a tiny bit of touch-up to do and the SIG logo graphic is on back-order so I might just have to print my own decal and go with that. Taping up the wings for doping today.

Here she sits as of this morning:

Other than the graphics, which are all ordered from a couple sources (decal-it being one of the major sources) I still need the "real" wheels that'll go on her (2.75" instead of the 2.25" that are on her right now) and final dope on the wings - then she flies!!!!

For that first one, I've got a brand new bottle of Peach Brandy all chilled and ready (for AFTER the flight).

Can you add me to the brotherhood? Just started flying this January with an E-Flite Apprentice 15E but have a Somethin' Extra on the building board right now. I plan on selling or donating the Apprentice once I am confident flying it completely in advanced mode (no SAFE) and have my SE completed as I have no real interest in ARF's or Electrics. Also plan to build a Hog Bipe (probably w/4 stroke or Gasser) as soon as I complete the SE. Yeah, I'm already addicted to building and flying.

Hey RKRick, glad to meet another brother - welcome to the SIG Brotherhood and RCU! Gotcha logged with #157. That Apprentice has a sterling reputation - you'll do well with her. Geez, you're right - you've got the bug, BAD!!!! and that's a good thing, really good. Both the Somethin' Extra & Hog Bipe are great planes, they'll challenge you to do your best every time.

Just for giggles, and remember that I'm an old codger, you might want to rethink selling or donating the Apprentice once you're up on your game with the more "performance minded" planes. A lot of veteran flyers (yeah, you could call us "old dudes", or worse) keep trainers in the hangars for those days when we don't feel like drawing thunder from the skies. Some of them are totally stock, some of them have been modified to the point that they're not far from being fully aerobatic planes themselves. There are guys here, a fair number of them actually, that have primo scale birds, super-performance pattern birds, 3D birds AND a basic trainer like one of the SIG Kadets, CG Eagle's of several versions, Apprentices, or any of several other types - just to have a relaxing day in the air on occasion. Anyway, it's a thought.

So! Here's the SIG Brotherhood, as I've got it today:

Is the wing Semi-symmetrical like the falcon? Love that wing, in fact I'm using a Sr. Falcon wing in a scratch design, twin engine build right now that is close to finished.

Fully symmetrical wing. Plans call for balsa block tips but I didn't have any blocks so I cut & carved 1/4" pieces and laminated them all together. Once they were formed and hollowed out they had practically no weight. Here's what they looked as I started sanding them:
This was my first try at something like this - had a ball doing it. Nice thing is that they actually came out so well - way better than I really expected.

As I type this the wing's sitting on my dining room table, all taped up, just waiting for the wind to drop tomorrow so I can get the first coats of color dope on it. Center will be blue, tips maroon, the rest is yellow.

I have laminated a few wingtips and cowls but never like that, it looks really good and I am betting probably pretty solid. Amazing what we can come up with when presented with a challenge!!

I have laminated wingtips before I think it gives them a little added strength over a solid block.
