Sounds like your biggest challenge is the fields themselves!

Hey guys, could I be next on the list to join your brotherhood? I started flying years ago, (late 70s). My first plane was a Klipper, I quickly moved into a Kadet MKII and then onto the Komander. Since I quit flying 15 years ago and I'm just getting back into it I went back to a trainer. I have a Kadet Jr and I'm finishing up a Kadet MkII. I'm doing a rebuild on my Komander and should have it flying by next summer. I also have a Kavalier NIB waiting to be built.
Thanks Jay

Hi Jay, I saw that you have a Komander and I'd just like to say that I'd give my left.....Um.....Aileron to get another one. I wish Sig would bring them back.
Welcome to the Brotherhood

TCraft,
If my post put a tear in your eye, your gona cry. I have my Komander that I'm doing the rebuild on as you. I also have one NIB that I picked up about a year ago. Now before anyone asks, I will not sell either one because I will not be without one again. I can use the new one as templates to build as many as I want to.

I do know that if you really want one, there are three for sell on ebay. If you go that route be prepared to spend some money. However once you have one you can use it for templates and build as many as you want. You'll have to learn to cut your own foam wings though. I begged Sig to do a small run of Komander's but I received no reply. The cost to do so must be to high. What a shame.

Good luck if you go to ebay
Jay

Good to hear that there are still a few Komander kits available. Thanks for the tip to check out ebay. I have looked from time to time for them on ebay and have never seen one. I will be looking as soon as I am done with this post.

I too have requested a komander run from Sig and have had no response. Probably an unknown model to most of the younger RC folks.Good luck on your rebuild.

Why does it have to have a foam core wing? If someone has one, just trace the tip and root shapes and ribs can be roughed in and sanded from there. Just a thought

No your right hydro, but for me it's easier just to cut a new foam core wing, faster too.
I have a Kavalier and will have to compare wings to see how close they are. Maybe I can cheat and modify a Kavalier wing to fit a Komander. Good point though.

Kadet MkII work in progress. I'm using an OS Max FP40 up front and a Futaba 4ch 2.4 for control.
I'm actually farther along than what the picture shows.
Hope to be flying soon.

Looks good!! Nice engine collection too. I'd be willing to take that one, 2 of that one over there, and a couple of those others too (or sumpin').

Am I the only guy around that doesn't have a wall-full of engines in boxes?

Thanks Dave
LOL, that's many years of picking things up when I can. The engine's are like the kits, the ones I use the most, they don't make any more.
Hey I followed the Sig link you have listed in your signature block, nice. Really good information, I bookmarked it so I can refer back to it.

Yeah, you've done well with the collecting - no doubt. Understood about your most used stuff not being made anymore - I thing we're all kinda victimized by that, planes, engines, equipment, (years, energy, yada yada). I'd LOVE to see an old "iron" FOX .45 RC on the market somewhere for parts. I've got one here with a busted pin on the back of the flywheel - best engine I ever ran until the day it broke. Who knows, one day...

Thanks for the nice words on the website. My very first plane (beyond Guillows kits) was a SIG Fokker D-VII (SIG CL5) and I've had a thing going with SIG ever since. Goldberg kits too, but SIG mostly. It all started when I tried to get some plans from SIG and found out they'd pretty much "canned" everything that was discontinued. Like you, a little collecting here, a little collecting there. Who knows, I'm pretty sure it's the most comprehensive listing of SIG's "airplane" history already. Still hoping to get the VERY FEW I don't have yet. I add a few things every week, as a rule. Just this past week I had to re-position pages because some were loading so slowly. RC kits are now limited to 20/page instead of 30/page. Fun stuff to work with.

Dave, do you keep an eye on ebay? I've been kinda surprised with what I see there at times.

I too started out with Sig. My first plane was the Klipper, my second one was a Kadet MkII. I was hard on planes. After that I moved on to the Komander. After the Komander I think I moved on to things like Midwest sweet stik 40, Jemco fun scale mustang then on to BUSAs Phaeton II.
I've even had Goldberg and Top Flite kits in my hanger. I must of hit just about every major kit maker that was around.

Engines for me has been mostly OS Max and Webra, I do have one Enya 35 and one Super Tiger.

For sure, I watch e-bay, but not as closely as I probably should. I've managed to pull a few gems out for reasonable prices, but not many. Still keep an eye on them from time to time.

Actually, my very first plane (1955) was the venerable C/L Cox PT19, which sits in her box in my basement today. 3 replacement wings, one replacement elevator, the rest is original. I still get her out every couple years just for the fun of it. My first build was the Guillows Fokker DR-1, which I actually tried to fly free-flight with a Cox .020 in the nose. She actually flew a full fuel tank, then went into the woods - never saw it again, but I was HOOKED right then and there. Got a Carl Goldberg Li'l Satan into the air for an entire summer and then a mini-Ringmaster that's still sitting in the basement too. That was my last .049 plane.

First REAL build was the SIG CL5 Fokker D-VII, then 4 CL11 Banshees (2 still flying today) and a CL20 Akromaster, along with a couple Midwest kits (Cosmic Wind, P63 King Cobra, ME109) and my beloved Sterling Skylarks (5 built, 2 still flying).

Then I started RC in 1973. First was the original SIG Kadet RC31 kit, and that was just retired a couple Christmas's ago when my Mk-II came online. Also still flying are my RC39 Kavalier, RC56 Midstar-40, RC3 Cub, RC53 Kobra, CG Sr Falcon, CG Eagle-II, CG Eaglet, CG Gentle Lady, Craft Aire Butterfly (before Dynaflite took them over), LiveWire Champ Mk-II and probably several I can't remember right now. On the table, getting the final touches in her rebuild is my SIG RC4 Stratus. She's slated to be back in the air this next weekend at the VRCS Octoberfest in PA. She's been more than a year, rebuilding.

Yeah, like you, I've been all over the map with whose kits I've built. Each and every one has been a good flyer though - love 'em all.

The Sig Bravo is popular in Southeast Michigan.

This pic was taken a couple weeks ago, at the Flying Pilgrims Giant Scale Event.

Acdii, I can tell you. The Liberty Sport plan you found on ebay is the same print out of the plan of the pdf files you can download from outerzone. Don't wast your money, I did. I ordered the set from Mr hobby and plate two is low res. He downloaded the file from outerzone. If you found something else then I apologize for jumping in here.

I haven't found plate two in a PDF yet, nor do i plan to buy a set since it isn't for me, but my friend who has the plane and is trying to get it to fly right. He crunched it a few times already, and is trying to get it flying straight, it rolls left now, but thinks he has the balance correct now.

Well wing breaks down into 3 pieces, the Fuse is 8' long though, but the tail does have the option to be removed. In my trailer, no problem, but in my truck, wont know until it is built, only have a 5'6" bed, does have a topper though, so might fit 6' into it at an angle. The Fuse should slide through the cab window.
