I've never flown a Kobra but I have seen them fly. They're hot little planes. I think you'd be better off going to a Kavalier or a Kougar for your second plane. Just my thought.
#2156
I learned to fly on a Hobbistar 60 high wing trainer in 2005, a Kadet Senior, then bought a yellow 4Star60 in 2006. I feel that the 4Star60 was good preparation for every plane I flew after it. Then I built a King Kobra and stuffed an O.S .75AX into it. I am extremely fond of the King Kobra but don't think it's a good 2nd plane. 4Star60 gets my vote for a 2nd plane.
#2157
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Kougar more or less the same as the Kobra, just a bit larger, other than the foam cored wing?
#2158
Very simular to the Kobra but not as fast and able to land at a slower speed. It is aerobatic but also a little more forgiving than a Kobra or King Kobra. SIG says it's an introduction into low wing flying.

NICE PLANE!!! Congrats on the New Year flight!!!!

I might add that bbrowncods supplied a pdf for the wingplan of the RC32 Kommander, along with all the specs for recreating the foam wing core - already on the website. Thanks for the info!!!!
So, first roll-call of the year - here's the SIG Brotherhood as I've got it today (3-columns):

You know what can make a good second plane? A Something Extra on low rates. It is very forgiving, has great stall characteristics, Easy to land, Easy to take off, and not so wild when the throws are set small. Heck even with the elevator stuck in the up position I made a mostly good landing, only knocked the main gear off. That should tel you how well the stall is on it, I basically brought it in by stalling it, on the runway at that, from way up high and out. I don't have a single bad thing to say about the SSE.

Great way to start the new year - two brothers checking in!! Absolutely, cardinalflyer's logged with #172, bbrowncods' got #173. Welcome to the SIG Brotherhood!!!
I might add that bbrowncods supplied a pdf for the wingplan of the RC32 Kommander, along with all the specs for recreating the foam wing core - already on the website. Thanks for the info!!!!

In all honesty, when work and the wife allow it, I've been working on a pair of Kadet Jr. One will have Tricycle gear, the other floats while both are getting modified wings with barn door ailerons with significantly less dihedral than normal. I'm actually looking at what to build next, the Kobra or go with an Astro Hog or Four Star and then the Kobra. Knowing how to build isn't a problem, nor is the radio since I've got my Futaba 9C, just have to send it and my receivers in for retuning.
Since you asked what I fly, here you go:
and, as for my last build:
Trust me, bending plywood is much harder than bending balsa

cool boat is it fast? You are definitely on the right track in building kadets for your first planes you will love them. As far as your next plane I would go with the astro hog it is a little on difficult to build list but it will be the best flying plane you will ever own. (Just my opinion) as an old car racer keep in mind that flying planes is not exactly the same as driving a boat. You already no left from right but now you have up and down and sideways and a few other directions to worry about when flying a plane. You kinda remind me of me. I learn to fly in pretty much one day and my second airplane was the hog and then I really learned to fly and I have enjoyed this ultimate experience for almost 25 years. Goid luck in your decisions and hope that you enjoy flying as much as I have. Oh by the way Sig makes the best kits and ARF's in the industry. Good luck!!

It certainly goes without saying that there is a wealth of information and opinion here from people sincere in wishing only the best experience for you. It is the reason you will come back again and again when it's time for the next decision.
In that vein, let me offer my two cents. It seams obvious to me you have the building skills, patience, tools, sanity, etc. to take on almost any of the planes being thrown around, to both build and fly successfully. Your flying skills will never suffer from supposed limitations in a "beginner" or "intermediate" airframe. Each aircraft has it's own characteristics of course but the limitations are yours and what motivates you to get out and fly. The goal of the best flyers I know is to find that combination of easy and fun.
My two cents boils down to..... Don't be in a hurry and get caught up in the higher farther faster syndrome. Go with something you can confidently perform the two most terrifying functions a pilot at any level faces. Takeoffs and Landings. Eventually your hanger will look like all of ours, with many different types but we all have that favorite we can land like a pro every time!

Captcrunch, yes, they are fast. The re-added orange 1/8 scale boat tops out between 65 and 70MPH while the bottom sport 20 boat will hit low 50s.
BigTee, Trust me, I've seen people try to advance too fast and the unfortunate results.
Okay, here's what I'm looking at;
1) The Kadets will be my go to planes for at least a year. Truth be told, I figure I'll be flying the float Kadet fairly often when I go to the boat races since I won't need an airfield and will have everything I need there already, including a chase boat if worse comes to worse
2) I actually prefer the looks of the Hog over the Four Star so I'll probably pick one up in the fall. I'd eventually like a fast plane but I also prefer built up wings over foam cored. This was why I asked about the Kobra.
3) Capt, I ran the orange boat for three years with my 9C, prior to buying a 4PLS wheel radio, so I'm very familiar with the set up. I've also played around with sims so it's more a matter of getting a plane finished than learning how to use the radio and knowing which way to move the sticks to get the desired result. I know that is one of the hardest things for a beginner to learn, which way to move the sticks based on the direction of flight, I've got that down due to the boats
BigTee, my hanger is already looking like many in the forums. My plans and started builds include:
1) the two Kadet Jrs under construction
2) the soon to be ordered Hog
3) the soon to be ordered Kobra
4) plans for a 50cc gas Katana on hand
5) plans, cowl, canopy, wing tubes and cabane struts for a 50cc gas Pitts Model 10 on hand
6) plans for a 50cc gas Edge on hand
and I can add to that:
1) four 1/8 scale hydroplanes under construction
2) three sport 20 hydroplanes under construction
3) two sport 40 hydroplanes under construction
4) one gas scale hydroplane under construction
5) the two hydroplanes pictured above
6) one fiberglass scale hydroplane being restored
Is my hanger full enough yet?

I run a cobra 3520 /10 980 KV motor with a 70 amp speed control and 5000 mha 4 cell LiPo. And get about a 14 minute run time and pretty decent performance in my four-star 54 before I crashed now I'm putting the same set up in a something extra. Sorry to take so long to reply and hope that helps.

Dunno. Probably the same answer as to the question "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie-roll pop?".

don't take offense, but I have ten planes ready to fly, another 10 that need engines and radio set up's and another dozen or so in kits. All Varying from a hand size heli to a 200cc gasser and what is really scary is I have enough engine and radio set ups to get them all flying. What a trailer load of stuff that would make wow. Is there a phone number for RC addiction? And we won't even talk about plans.
So you have a great start and I hope you keep it up.

My Feedback: (6)
Think of it this way just when you think you have enough there will be this airplane or boat that will catch your eye. You will think about it constantly, ylou will dream about, you just have to have it! So you buy, build, whatever and you're happy. Then the next one comes along and you start the process all over again. There is no such thing as enough! ;-)

I have 20 either ready to fly or in some state of readiness or build/repair. I have at least 6 that can be flown right now, and two or three more that can be ready in a day each.
